RESULTS FROM THE PENNSYLVANIA STATE JUNIOR DAIRY SHOW page 3 The 61 st annual Pennsylvania Junior Dairy Show was held on Saturday in the Equine Arena at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex. Youth exhibitors from 43 counties showed 615 animals in seven breeds. Daniel Kitchen, a 4-H member from Montour, Co. has been participating in the Pennsylvania Junior Dairy Show for many years. This is my last year of eligibility for this show because I turn 18 next month. It has always been an event that I look forward to because the competition is exciting. 3 AADS SUPREME BRED AND OWNED COW, OWNER EARN USE OF EBY TRAILER The owner of the champion Best Bred and Owned cow of the 2016 All- American Dairy Show, to be named during the show s Supreme Champion Pageant September 22, will earn use of an Eby aluminum stock trailer for one year. The gooseneck trailer is 24 feet long, 8 feet wide and 6-and-a-half feet high, and will carry special logos noting its prized cargo. Thanks to this generous donation, one of our deserving exhibitors will not only have the convenience of a new stock trailer, but will help to promote the throughout the next year, said Agriculture Secretary Russell C. Redding. Breeding this caliber of cattle is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the exhibitors that attend our show, and it s an honor to have them under our roof. Last year s champion Best Bred and Owned was the Grand Champion Brown Swiss, four-yearold Kar-Linn Wondrmnt Reese ET, owned by Jeff Brown of Jackson Center, Ohio. Eby Trailers is sponsoring the prize for the fourth year. M. H. 4 STRAWBERRY CHEESECAKE SMOOTHIE From Morgan Brymesser, PA State Alternate Dairy Princess Ingredients: 6 oz. cream cheese 1 cup milk 7 graham crackers 2 cups strawberries Directions: Blend cream cheese, ice cream, milk and 6 graham crackers in the blender until smooth. Add about half of the cream cheese mixture into liquid measuring cup. Reserve for later. Add strawberries to remaining cream cheese mixture in blender; blend until smooth. Pour into beverage glass or 2 large smoothie cups. Pour reserved cream cheese mixture gently over strawberry mixture in glass. Crumble remaining crackers, sprinkle over smoothie. 5 DAIRY GIRL NETWORK WILL HOST EVENT AT ALL-AMERICAN Women are invited to the Dairy Girl Network (DGN) event scheduled at the All-American Dairy Show in Harrisburg, Penn., one of the largest all breed dairy shows in the U.S.A. Dairy girls will meet on Monday, Sept. 19 from 7pm 9pm in the Cameron Street Foyer. Dairy Girl Network strives to connect dairywomen with one another as a source of support and inspiration. The event will introduce Dairy Girl Network programs and highlight the upcoming Forward TogetHER Dairy Girl Network National Conference. Women involved with any part of dairy are encouraged to attend whether as a calf feeder, dairy owner, marketing consultants or cheese producers, veterinarian, researchers, etc. If there is a dairy cow involved in what she does, she s invited. Dairy Girl Network is comprised of great women who have a wealth of knowledge to share and want to learn from each other, says Tami Smith, Addiseo representative and event chairperson. Our social media pages give an opportunity for idea sharing and the local events, like this, bring us together face to face for more of the same!
