2 Saturday 23 rd June :00am (However long it takes you!) Park Run Come along and take part in the 5km park run. Park Run takes place the same time all around the Country, it s all free, and you can walk, hop, jump or run! You just need to log on to park run website and register once, you will be given a bar code, print this and fetch it with you. 2-3 hours) Walk The Gap - Led by Harri Evans Come and join this lovely walk along the Taff Trail and take in spectacular views of the Valley from the well-known landmark affectionately known locally as the gap or the giants bite. Fir Tree Centre, Fir Tree Drive, Quakers Yard, Treharris, CF46 5BW (You set the time!) Kids go try event - Led by Merthyr Triathon Club Do you have an active 8-14 year old who would like a challenge? If the answer is yes, come along and try the first Go Tri Juniors Merthyr Event. The event will be a 50m swim, 1500m bike ride and 600m run. 3 Sunday 24 th June :00am Trail Run - Led by Running Club Have you always wanted to try a more challenging run but lack the confidence to do it alone? If yes this is the opportunity for you. Come and join the local running club in a challenging trail run, through the forestry and back to the start. - 12:00pm 10:30am Family Bilingual Observation Trail - Led Urdd Cymru Come along to the park and try and follow all the clues hidden in and around the park and improve your welsh skills at the same time. Prizes if you solve all the clues! Family trail bike ride - Led by Wales Valley Cycling Come along and join this lovely flat family bike ride along the Taff Trail. The overall distance will be 10 miles with the chance to stop off for refreshments. A helmet must be worn, if you turn up without a helmet you will not be permitted on the ride. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. At the front of the castle, Cyfarthfa Park, 11:00am Toddle Waddle - Led by Run Buggy Run Come along as a family and join our very first toddle waddle, enjoy a gentle stroll from Rock UK down to Parc Taff Bargoed and back again to use the facilities and sample some coffee and cake!! Prams, pushchairs, trikes, scooters all welcome. Monday 25 th June :30am 2-2 ½ hours) Breakfast nature walk - Led by Actif Woods Come and take part in a 3 mile loop and discover common plants, herbs and tree s along the way. Rock UK Summit Centre, The Old Drift Mine, Trelewis, Treharris, CF46 6RD Meet at the Leisure Centre entrance, 12:30pm ½ hour) Walking lunches - Led by the big heart of Merthyr Come along and join like-minded people for a quick, brisk lunchtime walk in and around the town centre. Penderyn Square, Castle Street, CF47 8ZA 1:30pm walk will start at 2:15pm 1½ - 2 hours) 5:30pm 1½ - 2 hours) Official launch of the stride and ride festival and guided walk Come along and see the fantastic new facilities at Rock UK where we will have our official festival launch. Entrance of Nant Llwynog Park, Near Lewis Street, Bedlinog, Treharris, CF46 6SL 10:15am Morning Hillside Ramble - Led by Ramblers Come and join the local ramblers group as they take a lovely hillside walk from Asda to the Taff Trail and back to Cefn Coed. Asda bus stop (you can meet at stand 11 and get the bus from town centre) Dowlais Top, CF48 2YF 1:00pm 4:30pm 1-2 hours) Nordic Walking Taster session - Led by Valleys Nordic Walking Come along and give Nordic walking a try through the lovely surroundings of Cyfarthfa Park and discover the benefits of Nordic Walking. Nordic walking provides a social whole body workout using up to 90% of your bodies muscles and burns up to 46% more calories than normal walking! Safety Requirements minimum age 16, appropriate trainers to be worn (strictly no open toe shoes), no dogs/children, moderate level of fitness required, please bring any emergency medication needed eg. Asthma inhalers etc. Orienteering at Cyfarthfa Park - Led by Venture Out, MTCBC Ever fancied trying your hand at orienteering?
