Issue 3 October 2015 Welcome to Issue 3 of our newsletter Hi and welcome to the third newsletter. Hopefully you enjoyed reading the last editions and will continue to read future ones as it is a great source of information on the club. This one includes articles on the Inclusive football, History of our club, future events, as well as the regular updates on how well our teams are performing. Chairman s Message Hi and welcome to the new 2015/16 season at. Although the summer tends to be a quiet period for the club, this summer has been an exception. We ran our first Inlcusive football session for boys and girls with disabilities in August and have now planned the next training sessions (see article on Page 6). Key Messages YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU As a club, we can only continue with the support of our dedicated helpers and volunteers without whom the club would not exist. We would like Everett to expand and continue to support local boys In addition, progress has been made on the clubhouse. and therefore we are always looking for new volunteers. This can be new managers, coaches to support managers, fundraisers, committee menbers. If you think you can help in any way, shape or form please con- We have met with the Herts FA Development Manager and FA Regional Facilities Manager. We talked them through our plans and although they cannot guarantee anything, they felt we had a very strong case for receiving funding. Next we met with a funding company who are helping us pull together another funding bid. They have a lot of experience in applying for funds and again felt that we had a strong case. The total cost of the clubhouse could be in the region of 320k 380k so we need to receive funding from a number of sources. Lastly, we met with a surveyor recommended by the FA who will be tact Mark Collins on Mark.2.collins@bt.c om It doesn't matter if you don t think you have the skills training will be provided. producing our revised plans. Our funding bids are currently being worked on and will be submitted in January 2016 and, if all goes to plan, we could be building this time next year fingers crossed. Christmas raffle is running again this year (see Page 9 for details) - prizes will be drawn on 18th December at the Xmas party. 2 Page 2 Team Updates Under 7 The Under 7 s start the new season as a brand new team, having continued on from the development squad. A big welcome back to the boys from last year - Zackari, Ihsan, Lewis, Max, Caleb, Charlie and Kai. We've brought in some new boys as well in Clarke, Ryan, Finn and Henry, so a big welcome to them also. Ihsan and Caleb have been the rocks in defence, helped out by the versatile Kai who, no matter what position he is playing, will cover each blade of grass at least 10 times as well as chipping in with the goals. Charlie, Zakari, Lewis, Henry and Ryan have all had a go everywhere on the pitch and as well as having a hand in the goals, they're all getting stuck in and are not frightened of a big tackle. Finn has played in every position, and has shown great skill and control going forward, as well as being as fast as a Ferrari, he can also get stuck in with a challenge or two. Clarke is a great little player and has scored in all but 1 of our games so far, like the others, runs his socks off and moans when he comes off (haha). Then there's Max, the worlds smallest goalkeeper - He seems to grow about 4 foot when he gets in goal and bats away everything. Nicknamed Petr. The boys can't wait to get on playing game after game, improving week by week and showing what they've learnt in training. There's a lot to learn and work on, and it's great to see the boys so eager and willing to put in the effort. Big thank you to the parents so far for the support and help when needed. I am very much looking forward to the season ahead! Under 9 Blue Luke After a well deserved break, the under 9 s Blue team are back in action for the forthcoming season. The team did so well last year, a lot of people were very surprised how much the team has improved, so the boys will be looking to build on from last season. One thing the boys will need to get used to, is stepping up to 7-a-side football. A lot of teams may struggle to adapt to it straight away, but the boys have done really well in a previous tournament and in their first few games this season. With the boys moving to 7-a-side football, we needed to add a few new additions to the team. Unfortunately we lost a player during the summer, but we managed to add a new player into the team at the start of the season. We are still looking to add one or two more players into the team, but hopefully this will be resolved very shortly. As a group, we are a developing team. All the boys have worked so hard in the past year or so and all their hard work has really paid off. Lots of teams have written us off, expecting an easy game against us last season, but it was never the case. We re more than capable competing against the stronger teams in our age group. With all the hard work the boys are putting in, I m very confident that the team will keep on improving in the upcoming seasons. Hopefully we ll have another enjoyable season this year!! Craig Under 9 Red It is no use saying, 'We are doing our best.' You have got to succeed in doing what is necessary. Winston Churchill Trying to stay at the top is hard as everybody wants to beat you, we all know it s hard to get back to back successful seasons and winning the Premiership twice on the trot is a rarity as Chelsea are finding out this season, Our boys are not affected by the success of past seasons they are a machine of 7,8 & 9 year olds. The Under 9 s are too young to bet but you d be mad not to back these all stars of English Football. Having played to- gether for 2 successful years Dan had to go in the transfer market to maintain our level of quality players. The high profile signing of Levi and Becaye by Watford Academy leaving the Under 9 s short of players, just 6 players for the coming 7 a side season! We wish Levi and Becaye great success with Watford and hope to give you a game soon to see if Watford can match! Over the summer months we made some fantastic new signings. Yaya the first to join and he played in a summer tournament (what a player having already played with Watford, Luton, West Ham and Barcelona!), then no messing Harrison joined helping to improve our defence and finally in the last week Kaashan a dynamic midfield joined formerly from Rickmansworth. The Boys have played 3 games so far. We currently sit top of the league the position these boys have been accustomed to for the past 2 seasons. We have won 3, scored 21 goals and let in 5.

Page 3 Under 9 - Red Continued Team Goals in (21) Goal: Freddie Defence: Big Shay (1), Harrison and Ben. Midfield: Shae (5), Louis (6), Yaya (3) and Kaashan (1). Centre Forward: Connor (5) Manager: Dan Sayell. Press Officer: Paul Burroughs. Under 10 - Red is the teams fourth season. Looking back on pictures from those first games the change in the boys is amazing in many ways. The group of boys and their parents have grown stronger together with time. Passionate and supportive in the right way and enjoying each other's company off the pitch. Just as we went to start the season one of our original boys Thomas was offered a contract with Luton. He will be missed but we wish him all the best and will regularly keep in touch with his family - Coach Colin already having attended 2 of our 3 games to date. Then after 2 games Ossie has gone into hospital for some prolonged treatment which is likely to keep him out of action for a little while. You should have seen the boy play in the first 2 games before treatment - an amazing and determined lad. One things for sure Mr Everett will be back. So for now the rest of the boys will play on and do their best for their talismanic team mate. New sponsors have been sourced as the kits are getting a little tight after 3 seasons. We are looking forward to giving Ossie his new kit when he is out of hospital. Training is on Thursdays with the U9s and both groups are getting on well and pushing each other on a regular basis. Gary

Page 4 Under 9 - Black Three matches have been played with the boys getting used to now having 7 players on the pitch and on a bigger playing area. Our group have 11 boys signed which gives us many options for making changes through the games to ascertain the best positions for each individual. Out first game was a loss by 10-1 against Kings Langley sharks. Our man of the Match on this occasion was Darcy our new keeper who managed to keep the score down with a number of good saves. Our Second game against Herons Youth away Ended with us losing just by 3-1. We moved the boys around and tried them in different positions which proved to be a good exercise as it showed we have talent in areas we didnt know was there. Stan was given this weeks man of the match, he was tried as a full back and made many score saving tackles as well as pushing on and supporting the attack. All the boys again played really well with Darcy once again making some good saves from Herons big striker who had a very good shot. Game 3 was against Little Gaddesdon away, and this week with a full compliment of boys available was the first chance to really move all of them around. Aaron had a good game upfront for a while before changing for Ayman and then later for Stan. Bailey was tried both in midfield and in attack, Tevin was tried in defence and midfield. Logan started really well in defence before an injury meant he had to come off. Mohamed was tried in midfield and attack, Sebastian also had a good game also in defence. Daniel played well in his favourite left sided roll, and George was tried in defence and attack. All the boys played well holding this good Gaddesdon team to 4-2 until the last quarter before we came out 7-3 lossers mainly because of the changes we made. However this really did not reflect in the effort the whole group put in with George deserverdly being this weeks man of the match. The biggest positive too come out of this game was that we showed we can score goals so will push on from here. The first win of the season is getting closer Under 10 - Blue Welcome to the first Blue U10 item for season 2015/16. At the time of writing the Blues remain unbeaten this season having showed some real gritty performances which will put us in a good place for those tough Jan/Feb months which will soon be upon us. It was with sadness we said goodbye to Sam Walters and Archie Brewer who are taking a break from the game but in place we say hello and welcome to George and Owen. speed, agility and quickness as well as resistance training and some hard work running doing the coaches favourite the parachute run! With the unfortunate folding of the Blacks we also welcome AJ and Jack who are joining us for training and getting some game time when time permits, we are sure they will do their very best to force themselves into the team as of course we keep one eye on next season where we shall need nine players plus subs. We wish all Everett teams well for the forthcoming season and hope a smattering of silverware is present come the end of the season. Paul The Blues now play at Callowland Park, North Watford, where we aim to create a bit of fortress spirit where we take no prisoners and play firm but fair football. Pre-season training and our early training sessions have concentrated on Under 12 u12 have been promoted to the West Herts blue division this season and look forward to a challenging and progressive season. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome Jake and Patryk to the team, both are strong additions. The boys have come back this season ready and keen as ever we have worked very hard in training, but our matches have been sparce with only playing 2 matches due to cup competitions. We have moved training from Saturday mornings to Friday evenings at Watford leisure centre due to some of the boys now playing various sports for their new senior school teams...congratulations!! As ever I would like to thank all the parents for their support and in helping get the pitch ready on Sunday mornings with the addition of our NEW GOALS! Which have improved our facilties at the Everett. Also to Sam for continuing in her role as match day delegate. Help is needed on match days with running the line and I would like to thank those who volunteer, it's much appreciated as this allows me to coach the boys from the side. Lastly I would like to welcome and thank Tony for stepping forward and helping me in training and running the the team with me. Let's look forward to a fun and successful season!!! Andy T

Page 5 Under 13 Last season ended on a high, reaching the Quarter Finals of the County Cup, then finishing 3 rd in League 2 to gain promotion to the top division for the 2015/16 season. We entered a number of summer tournaments, reaching 2 semi-finals & narrowly missing out on the winner s trophy at Berkhamsted after conceding in the dying minutes of the final. Overall we had some good days out and beat some good teams. The end of last season saw us part company with a couple of players and we have strengthened the squad as we moved up to 11-a-side, with the arrival of Matt, Luke & Louis. Their arrival has certainly added to the quality in the team and they have bedded in well. After our teambuilding day at the gokart track, I m hoping not to lose any of my boys to the track, as there were certainly some feisty drivers out there. The Mums & Dads also had a go & there was some fierce rivalry out on the track in the older category. Several approaches were made to the officials to ask if some of the go-karts were more highly tuned. Apparently they were all the same power, but I have asked for an independent inspection for the next time!!! Negotiations have taken place to replace our kit & I am pleased to say that we will again be sponsored by NJC Tickets & Events to purchase new training tops TopGolf have sponsored a new second kit & Firestartoys have agreed to sponsor a new kit. The boys worked hard in pre-season training, finding it a little more physical than their 6 weeks of PS4 & Xbox activity. Working on fitness and ball skills has enabled us to hit the ground running. At the time of writing we sit second in the league with a 100% record, kept off the top only on goal difference, so the hard work at traiing is paying off at present. My aims for the year are :- to consolidate our position in the top league to have a good cup run to have a happy & developing team who are not afraid to play football, to learn & to take a chance to give the boys plenty of time on the pitch (which is why I have kept it to a squad of 13) Obviously with only 13 boys I run the risk of being short where there are injuries & sickness, but so far it is working well not having boys on the sideline for too long So thank you to all our sponsors & to all the parents who pitch in & help the team Andy H Under 14 - Yellow We have played 4 games so far this season. First up was a cup game against Panshanger Lions. We lost I think they all drove their as they were that big. Next up was a league game against Evergreen - we lost 5-0 with 10 men as we have 5 players out injured for the next 3 weeks. Game 3 was again in the league against Chorleywood. We lost 5-2 although the boys played well they need to concentrate through the whole game. Game 4 Challenge Cup against Park St lost 6-2. Although we are losing at the moment,,i can see a lot of spirit to play well and the results will follow. Terry W Under 14 - Blue Under 14 Blue finished off the 2014/15 season well by finishing 3rd in the WFL White (2nd division). Unfortunately, we lost 5 of our 14 players in the closed season and only managed to sign 2 new players meaning we started the season with just 11 players - none of which was a goalkeeper. Welcome to the two new boys, Zephyr and Josh who play right midfield and defence respectively. They have both added to the quality of the squad and shown in the few matches we have had the quality they have. We have so far played 4 games this season and lost all 4. In two of the games we played with a make shift goalkeeper who did well but you need a specialist player in that position. In our 3rd game, we started with 9 players as we had 2 sick and finished with 8 as one of the players had to be taken to hospital with a broken wrist (get well soon Joe). For our fourth game we only had 10 players. We have two new players starting to train with us, one of which is a goalkeeper and if they sign, I believe that we will still finish the league in one of the top positions. Dave M

Page 6 Under 16 The Under 16 s embark on a new season in West Herts Division 1 with optimism following a good end to last season. We have made some welcome new signings; Goalkeeper Nick, Midfielder Riccardo & forwards Evan & Alex, all of whom bring good qualities to the squad. We started the season at home with a draw it was a decent performance against St Albans - a great turn and shot from Callan gave us a deserved lead but a last minute equaliser saw us denied the win, perhaps the fair result in the end. Elliot G the standout performer for us. We followed up with an excellent point at Hemel white with a stubborn display and a great clean sheet to draw 0-0 against a side we have failed to pick up points against in previous years. The defence stood firm and only an excellent stop & post denied Marcel grabbing us all 3 points, a fine team display saw Alex Man of the Match. The following week we returned to Hemel to face the reds. In a hard fought match we paid the price for not taking some of our excellent 1 st half chances falling 3-1. Miraan notched the rebound for our goal, but I am positive the goals & results will come as long as we continue to show the right spirit. Unfortunately we started the season with a few key injuries; Mario & Charlie with George now added to the list fol- lowing a broken nose in the last match! I wish them all a speedy recovery and hope to have them back soon! Our up & coming fixtures include the Div 1 Champs and a couple of cup games where hopefully some of the boys will return and make good progress in the cups. Overall its an encouraging start with a talented bunch of lads. In my 11 th season coaching at Everett, I am very much looking forward to seeing the boys perform & welcome the continued good support from the parents. Adam Under 18 After a highly successful , finishing runners up in the Green Division and winning the Spring Shield. We started the season promoted to the Blue Division. As things have become more difficult due to players having work commitments and college studies, it was important that a squad was put together that could be relied on and we could give a good account of ourselves. We started the season with a 5-1 win against Belstone FC, then a 3-2 victory against Brady Maccabi Blue followed by an excellent 6-3 win with 10 men against Enfield Rangers. We then had a small blip with a 4-3 defeat in the 1 st Rnd of the League Cup. Overall a superb start and we sit proudly at the top of the League with many more difficult challenges ahead. Managers mark so far 8/10. In our 4th match, the 1st round Challenge Cup: I witness one of the most remarkable games in the history of management, playing with Nine men against Alexander Park South we were 4-0 down at half time and came back in the second half 4-4 to take the game to extra time, the the nine players exhausted a fantastic game ended with a 6-5 win after extra time. Amazing game.

Page 7 Inclusive Football We were approached by a parent of a boy from one of our football teams with regards to her other son, who has special educational needs, and so had little or no opportunity to play football. We as a club felt that this was something that we should get involved with, as it reached out to other parts of our local community, other than mainstream boys/girls. We therefore started talks with the parent, the Herts FA and Watford Trust. The Herts FA / Watford Trust already run Inclusive football sessions across Hertfordshire, however there were no teams running these events in the Watford area. We therefore setup an initial session on the 15 th August to gauge interest. We had approximately 11 boys and girls attend, which was pretty good as there was minimal advertising of the event due to the short notice given. The event was supported by about 7 or 8 managers/volunteers and Herts FA / Watford Trust. Feedback from the parents, children and Herts FA/Watford Trust at the event was extremely positive and therefore Everett have decided to continue to support this. There are only 9 other teams across the whole of Hertfordshire supporting Inclusive football. Our aim going forward is to; Run regular training sessions these have now been put in place - FREE monthly training starting in November 2015 Everett to have a number of its managers/volunteers attend inclusive football training courses Increase participation in this event; flyers have been sent to all local EBD (emotional and behavioural difficulties) and mainstream schools, article in the Watford Observer. Additional advertising will follow. Ultimate goal is to get sufficient participation for us to enter team(s) into the Hertfordshire Inclusive football league where it currently runs three divisions; adult male, U16 boys and U13 mixed. We have now setup the next 6 monthly training sessions starting on the 21st November, am Woodside leisure centre.

Page 8 From small acorns mighty oak trees grow How did FC start? Football Club was formed with one team during February 1997, with Steve Hutchison, Cliff Beaumont (both still involved in the club), Lee Parker and Martin Blomfield being the founder members. Originally the club was going to be called Stanborough Colts F.C, but after approaching the Bill Everett Centre for the use of the field for training, the agreement was made by the committee, that we would be known as Everett Rover F.C. The football club colours was next on their agenda. After many discussions between the members, the final decision was made. The choices were narrowed down to red and black or blue and black, and the decision was blue and black stripes, owing to not many teams using those colours at the time. The club joined the Watford Friendly League at the under 10 s age group, playing our first league match at Cherry Tree School. The team finished that season as runners-up in the White Division. We also managed to form an under 11 s team that played at Callowland Park. As the club started to grow in numbers with the introduction of 7 a-side football, we needed more pitches. We managed to obtain the use of the West Herts Sports Ground, where we played for one season. We were looking for a bigger ground thereafter as the number of teams increased. There was a possibility for the club to go to Parmiter s School, but the Bill Everett Centre gave us permission to use the field for our matches on Sunday s. The club now have teams ranging from under 6 s to senior 18 s with nearly 200 playing members representing in either the West Herts League or the Watford Friendly League. We also have a men s team playing on Sunday s, who play in the Berkhamsted League. The club have had many successes during the 18 year regime. At various age groups the club have won league titles, many different cup competitions in the West Herts League and Watford Friendly League. Everett Rovers even have a County Cup winning team, which is a huge achievement. The club had very successful summer tournaments, which was one of the biggest tournaments in Hertfordshire. One of the original teams

Page 9 Newsletter Title Annual Awards Night place a great deal of emphasis on celebrating the success of our football teams and our players. As such we hold an annual awards night. This is a chance for each team to highlight what they have achieved collectively, to present each player with a trophy for representing the club and to honor individual players for their achievements. Each manager awards trophies for; Managers Player, Players Player, Team Award and Most improved player. This evening is really appreciated by the boys - who doesn't love a trophy - as they get to collect their award, not just in front of their own parents but the parents from other teams. Well done to all the players that represented FC in 2014/15 you were a credit to the club and long may you to continue to play for us. Every footballer wants to play forever. And if you are going to keep on playing - to enjoy it to the full - you want to win games, and as a result, trophies. Ryan Giggs Fundraising Thank you to all the people who have helped out with the fundraising, whether it was letting your son pack bags at Tesco, coming along to Race Night back in February or sending your hubby off to the golf day. Supporting these events allows us to keep the annual subscriptions as low as possible. We really do need your help with the next events we have coming up Comedy Night on the 23rd October - a good night of fun and laughter with some of the country s top comedians. Christmas raffle - a book of tickets will be given to every boy - please help to sell them to friends, grandparents, aunties, uncles. 1st prize of 200, 2nd of 125, 3rd of 75 and 4th of 25. The boy that sells the most tickets gets a 50 gift card. Good Luck. Bag Packing at Sainsburys Dome roundabout on the 5th December We are always looking for fun ideas to help the club raise much needed money so if you have any ideas please them to me at nickybeckenham@hotmail.com If you work for a company that would like to sponsor a team please pass them my and I will talk to them about it. So far this year, with your help, we have raised just under To put that in to perspective, if we were to raise the same amount through the annual subscriptions we would need to increase them by 30 per child.
