1 Thursday, 9 November 2017 Dear Parents/Caregivers We are proud of our five boys, Anthony Hu, Hover Guo, Sam Moffitt, Maxim Tenitski and Tom Talbot who competed in the Chess Nationals and achieved 6 th place out of 20 teams in Hamilton on 29 October. Sam also competed the day before in a junior individual event and was placed 4 th out of 65 students. A commendable effort! Thursday 23 November am Mr Ramsay s Music Festival orchestras and boys choir performing all welcome Friday 24 November Sports Exchange with Belmont Primary Friday 8 Decmeber 9:30am Junior Christmas Concert Enjoy the action zone including zorb track, water walkers, vertical bungy, Old McDonalds farm, cake and sweet stall, books, toys, clothes, white elephant, hangi, treasure hunts, lucky dip, face painting, lucky jars, tombola, lots of food choices, bar, live auction at 5.30, raffle draw 6.30, silent auction closes 6.45pm and much much more! We hope you can all come and of course friends and family from near and far are also welcome! A popular community event not to be missed! Look at this wonderful healthy enticing lunch box!

2 GYMNASTICS Last week two groups of students participated in the North Harbour Gymnastics Competition! A number of our students achieved impressive scores in a very competitive environment. Thank you to teachers Chloe Ferguson and Leisha Calder, also parent, Angela McCarthy for all the time spent training the students. MATHS EVENING Thank you to those who attended the Maths evening, that provided parents with a very good understanding of the teaching of maths at Hauraki School including some strategies for how to assist your children. Thank you to teacher, Donna Golightly who facilitated the evening. TROPHIES AND CUPS Please can recipients of cups or trophies in 2016 return these now so we can have them engraved ready for this year s final assembly. Your immediate suport with this would be much appreciated. ANNUAL ATHLETICS SPORTS DAYS Next week is our senior annual athletics sports day on Tuesday 14 November for years 3-6 i.e. rooms Every child is expected to participate. House colours, school hats, and sun screen to be worn. The Junior Athletics is on Thursday 16 November. Year 2s i.e. rooms 5, 6, and 7 at 11am, and the year 1 s i.e. rooms 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 19 at 1.45am that day. Programme for Tuesday 14 November 9am 10.55am Girls will begin with 60 metre heats for 7 year olds, followed by 8, 9, 10 and 11 year olds. Boys will begin field events. 7 Year olds and 10 year olds long jump, 9 and 11 Year old softball throw, and 8 Year olds high jump am Morning tea a.m p.m. Boys track 60m, 100m, 200m. Heats and finals Girls rotation of field events Sprint finals will follow and conclude with a house relay pm Lunch time 2.40 pm certificates presented

If you could possibly please spare twenty minutes to help out we would really appreciate it. CONTACT DETAILS The recent survey indicated that there are a few families not receiving newsletters. If you know of any of these, can you please suggest they let the office know so details can be updated. If anyone else has changed contact details it is important you let us know. TREE IN THE HALL FOYER This tree serves as a reminder of all those who generously donated to the building of the school hall and more recently to on going school fund raisers. It is an opprtunity to leave a legacy that our year 6 leavers may be particularly interested in. If you would like to know more please ask me or check at the office. REMINDERS Please be advised that children who arrive at school very early should be attending before school care, otherwise we would prefer they don t come till 8:30am Students arriving just before this time are required to wait quietly under the pergola until the 8.30am bell. It is a busy time for teachers who are preparing for the day or in meetings. Also a reminder that no one is to be on the playground equipment before school or straight after school. Your cooperation with these matters is much appreciated. Please be aware that no one at any time should be parking on yellow lines to drop off or pick up children. Last week there were two instances with parents that were reported to the local constable. It is very important that the safety of children is paramount! IMPORTANT DATES Please note that the junior Christmas concert is scheduled for Friday 8 December 9:30am, rooms 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 19. Also on Monday 11 December 9:30am is the final assembly for the Middle and Senior Schools. All welcome!

4 TRAVELWISE Trial our Jutland Rd bus route any school day between Monday 13th Nov & Friday 24th of November and you will earn a dip in our walking school bus goodie box. It will feel like an early Christmas with a choice of lollipops, pens, stickers, flip wrist bands & more. Walk three times in this period & you will earn a fantastic WSB notebook. Christian Han, Tom Talbot, Molly Arthur and Kaiāwhina Godsalve enjoying a Travelwise celebration at The Cloud with Mrs Franklin. Lots of fun activities. It was a fun day with lots of activities set up in the Viaduct Basin including a helicopter simulator, harbour master boat, police dogs and so forth. We felt very proud to be awarded Gold status at the prize giving held at The Cloud at the end of the day. How do I trial? 6 PTA NEWS Twilight Fair This Saturday 11 November 3-8pm There s lots on offer including an amazing silent auction that has gone live already! This year the silent auction began online on Monday October 30 and you have until Friday 10 th November at 11pm the chance to view the amazing items on offer, make bids, or even buy now (particularly good for those that want to support us but can t be there on the day). The auction runs online. The auction then pauses and the top bids will be transferred to hard copy bid sheets. The auction then re-opens at 3:00pm on the day of the fair and closes at 6:45pm. Highest bid wins on each item at that time unless the buy now option has been taken online! The Auction Link will be live from 9AM on Monday October 30 as follows: Remember to invite your friends and family along too to our great fair! They'll have a fantastic time. Raffle Tickets Please can you arrange for all unsold raffle tickets to be bought back to the school office tomorrow as they MUST be accounted for before the fair. Sausage Sizzle We have only 2 more school-time sausage sizzles left in We look forward to seeing you this Friday 10th November The last sizzle will be on Friday 8th December. Calendar Art Your children and teachers have been working hard on some beautiful masterpieces. These are in your children's classrooms for you to view now, with all orders handed in by Friday 10th November. Great for Christmas presents and the home or office.
