The mock crash portrayed a vehicle accident where teenagers died at the scene of an alcohol caused crash, another teenager was taken to a mock hospital room, where he died at. The students who attended the mock crash were able to witness the accident environment with the wrecked vehicle, EMTs, and police; a Ferry County Search and Rescue search for a missing passenger; a MedStar transport; a mock hospital room, and a mock funeral service. Our school nurse Diane Lundgren gave a speech and video about her daughter Stephanie who lost her life because of an alcohol related accident when she was a teenager. SCHOOL BOARD MEETING The monthly meeting of the Curlew School Board will be held on Wednesday, October 16. The meeting begins at 4pm in Room 201 (in the high school wing close to the cafeteria).
2 1 ST AND 2 ND GRADE NEWS First and second graders are always excited to share what they have learned, so we were happy to have our parents join us at open house. Thank you for the chance to visit!! September is a busy month in first and second grade. It s an important time to build our learning community and learn classroom routines. We also spend a lot of time reviewing concepts we learned last year. In math, we review what we know about sets and the concept of addition. At calendar, we work with patterns and money. In addition, much time is spent reading, working with words and writing. Now that we have our routines established, we re off and learning. It promises to be a fabulous year! PIZZA GARDEN NEWS FROM 1 ST AND 2 ND GRADE! This year, first and second graders were able to harvest the vegetables they planted last spring in their pizza garden. The garlic, onions, tomatoes, summer squash, peppers, eggplant, basil and oregano were used to make pizza sauce. Then we ground some grain provided by Dan and Chris Miller to make some of the flour we used when we mixed the dough for the crust. Students were able to build their own pizza and top it with their choice of toppings, which included peppers, zucchini and tomatoes from our garden as well as mushrooms and olives. Of course, we invited the third grade to join us since they helped plant all of the vegetables! The consensus was that homemade pizza with lots of vegetables was a lot better than triangle pizza! Curlew School Community Association News This year CSCA hit the ground running with a fabulous taco bar at Open House. Students were then asked to solve the mystery of how many Cougar Paws were taped up around the school, showing the strength of our school spirit. Open House was the first opportunity to adopt one of our amazing staff for the year. Don't worry, it's not too late. We still have a list of staff just waiting for adoption. If interested contact Brenda Boyce at the school. Those of you that did adopt, don't forget to boost your adoptee's spirits with a surprise! The first CSCA meeting will be October 2nd, at 3:00. We meet in the elementary computer lab. Next big even will be the Trunk-r-Treat and we can use lots of hands to top last years event. If you would like to join CSCA, you can join us at the meetings or call Jennie Drennan at We are looking forward to a great year! The CSCA Presents The Annual Harvest Festival with the Ever Popular Trunk or Treat, Sunday, October 27, 2013 Trunk or Treat 4:30pm-5:15pm Festival Games and Food Booths 4:30pm-7:30pm Carved Pumpkin Contest Best Costume Contest We encourage Adults to dress up, too! Tickets will be sold at the door which will cover the cost to participate in any of the food and games booths at the festival! The number of tickets needed at each booth may vary. Please note that we do not generally hold this event on Sunday, but due to a variety of reasons, the scheduling of this fun-filled family and community gathering could only be held on this day. Otherwise, we would not be able to hold this activity this year and we hated the thought of everyone missing out on so much fun! We do not plan to hold it on Sunday on a regular basis. We hope to see you there! The next CSCA meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 3:00p.m Anyone is welcome to attend our meeting to help us make this year great for Curlew School! Trunk or Treat!
