January 2011 Thursday, January 13th, at the Carroll Nonprofit Center, 255 Clifton Boulevard. We hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable holiday. Can you believe it is 2011?? Where has the time gone? We missed everyone at the December meeting. We heard it was wonderful evening. Thanks to Ginny Houser for opening her home to us and being a wonderful hostess. We also want to thank Sandy, Jess, and the rest of the membership committee. Great job as always!!! JWC Members Personal Tidbits 2011 Calendar of Events 5 January Birthdays MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!!!! The mid-winter rally will be held on Saturday, January 29, at the Westminster Riding Club. Our club is the host for the event. The lunch will be catered, however we will need lots f hands to help with setup and cleanup. We will need breakfast items donated from club members. At this point, we are not sure of the times. Patti Jo will have more info at the January meeting with sign up sheets. If you are available, please try to attend. 2 PAGE 2 Santa s Workshop Thank You & Report A big thank you to all the JWC members who either helped with the Santa s Workshop or helped sign kids up for the event. While registration was slow getting started we actually ended up with 54 kids participating this year (including five kids from the Boys & Girls Club) and everyone seemed to have a great time. The STARS performed an original play about Frosty the Snowman and had 16 crafts for the participants to make and take. We even had some past STARS, their friends and several JWC family members helping this year. A new event this year was a service project where the participants were asked to help fill cloth ditty bags made with Christmas fabric. The 50 bags were filled with toiletry items, snacks, books and Christmas cards and were delivered the next week to the American Legion to be distributed to veterans during the holidays. Thanks to all who helped make this 15th year a success! Babs Condon Stars Coordinator Members on the Move Happy New Year! We hope each of you enjoyed wonderfully, blessed Christmas and New Year celebrations with family and friends! And, now... We are ready to embark on yet another year. The Membership Committee would like to thank Ginny Houser and her husband, Larry, for opening their home for our club Christmas party. Their hospitality was enjoyed by all! We would like to thank our committee members for setting a delicious variety of refreshment! All feedback has been that everyone really had a great evening. We feasted on lots of food, fellowshipped, exchanged and stole gifts, and learned something about each other in attendance. (Check out page four!) Our January meeting will be our Recipe Exchange Night. Everyone seemed very excited about this last year, so we decided to have it again. If you would like to participate, please bring your favorite dish to share. It can be an appetizer, side dish or dessert. And, also bring about 35 copies of your recipe to share with the other club members. These dishes will be our food to share and enjoy for the evening. The January hostesses will supply drinks and door prizes. We are looking forward to another delicious array of refreshments! GH1007 Sandy & Jesse Celebrate Dr. Seuss Birthday with Us This Year... by signing up to read a few books at one of the Westminster area Elementary Schools and possibly even cooking some green eggs and ham. Some schools are not allowing it due to allergies. The date is Monday, February 28, 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. I need to know your preferences for school and morning or afternoon and if you are willing to cook green eggs and ham. Please me at babscondon@comcast.net as soon as possible. The Woman s Club chairman, Jackie Hering, coordinates the readers and will start asking me for our list in January. Remember my friends, as Dr. Seuss would say If you never did - you should. These things are fun and fun is good! Babs

3 PAGE 3 JWC Members Personal Tidbits This is what we learned about each other while exchanging gifts at the December party! Club Member Kristin Barmoy Personal Tidbit I was on the synchronized swim team in high school. Babs Condon I spent part of every summer as a kid on Cape Cod. My first car was a used 65 Ford Mustang. Loved that car! Jessica Condon I ve been to Ocean City, MD every summer since I was four years old. LaVita Deming (Guest) I ve lived in three states this year (2010). Wanda Dixon Kim Hinton Carol Horne Anita Hopple I was the first lady in the Lions Club. I competed on the track team that represented Baltimore City in the Youth Games Competition held in Birmingham, Alabama when I was a teenager. I love to go rappelling, even though I haven't been in several years. I am a certified scuba diver and an only child, born in WV. Ginny Houser I taught ice skating with an Austrian Gold Medalist and was touched by God when I had a breast lump that had shown on an x-ray. Grace Kelly-Lawler I would run away with with Paul Newman :) Debbie Kenvin (Guest) I was born on my due date. Susan Krichten Vicki Kyle Heidi Landry Jennifer Lerche Sandy Lynch Peggy Markovic Brenda Marks Julie McCartan Virginia Mutchler (Guest) Brenda Murphy Diane Peregoy Mary Walton I love to roller skate. I went parasailing in Florida which took me many years to get up the courage to do and am happiest when I am on or near the water. When I was younger sledding, I stayed out too long and got frostbite on my toes and had to stay home for a week and recuperate. I was a cheerleader in Junior High School. I was published in a Who s Who in Baton Twirling. I was in a collegiate Who s Who. In addition to my BS degree in Information Systems, I'm also a pastry chef with a degree in baking and pastry. I have degrees in both Education and Business Administration. I have three daughters who live in California. I have three brothers and four sisters. True confessions! I did a brief stint of cheerleading in college for the wrestling team. For one event, a friend and I offered to take along one of the "hunky" wrestlers to the match at Elizabethtown. We got lost and the guy barely made it to the match. It was fun swooning over him during the ride! (By the way, I don't believe that he ever knew my real "heart-throbbing" thoughts about him!) My not-sure-how-many-greats grandfather, John Howland, came over on the Mayflower. There is a museum, "Howland House", up by Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts.

Sandy Club Reporting for 2010 It is time for committee chairpersons to prepare reports covering the 2010 club year for submission. Sample reports that will help with reporting are available for perusal. They are basically outlines for the information needed. Hard copies of last year's packets are, also, available, to see what was reported for Typically, we try to share this information at the January meeting. The time frame for this is unknown at this time. Bring a copy of the report to the meeting, if at all possible. me a copy when it is complete. If you are unable to bring a final report to the meeting, please bring a draft with any questions you may have. All final copies of the reports are due to me no later than January 21, so they can be reviewed and sent in by the due date. Thanks for your attention to this. Reporting is important! My hopes are that by the end of this month's meeting everyone will feel comfortable with their report. If you have any additional questions, please contact me as soon as possible.
