1 SquadLink WHAT A MONTH! So we thought last month was busy...but this past month has been crazy busy! We ve had some wonderful results at the National Championships, Victorian Championships, Southern Cross Classic and thanks to the superhero gymnasts above, there was even $$ won at the National Levels Spectacular!! AAAAMMMMMAAAAZING!!! COMPETITION UPDATE A big congratulations to all the gymnasts who recently competed at the Australian Championships in May at Hisense Arena and the Victorian Championships, Southern Cross Classic Finals and National Levels Spectacular over the Queen s Birthday long weekend at State Netball and Hockey Centre. There were some wonderful results, some great personal results and a whole lot of professionalism and sportsmanship which is so lovely to see.and makes you feel warm and fuzzy about being part of such a great club! The Australian Championships delivered some impressive podium places We have a new Level 10 National Champion... Lauren Pengelly!!...who also came 2nd on bars and beam and 3rd on floor. Olivia Burnett (Level 10) came 3rd on bars, 1st on floor and 3rd All Around while Giulia Archer won bronze on floor. Olivia, Lauren, Giulia Natasjia Voulanas, Miranda Delaney and Lisa-Nadine Tan were part of the Level 9 team who won bronze while Giulia Archer, Olivia Burnett and Lauren Pengelly who made up half of the Level 10 team, came away with the silver!

2 COMPETITION UPDATE cont. The Southern Cross Classic was a successful one too with Annabel Whiter being crowned the Level 7 (Over) Champion as well as the champion on Vault and Bars! Cara Graham took out the bronze all around and was the champion on floor. Full results are in the in Results section of this newsletter. The girls dominated with 3rd on vault, 1st on bars, 1st on beam and 1st on floor..which made it easy for them to claim the $500 winners cheque!! The team with and their support crew! Woohoo, winners are grinners!

3 CONGRATULATIONS Congratulations to Lauren Pengelly for being selected as part of the Australian Level 10 Tour Team who will travel to Nelson, New Zealand from 4th 8th October. Lauren was selected as a result of her fantastic results at the recent Australian Championships. TEAM FUTURE CAMP Well done to Chiara Kwok and Harriet Wingrove who were selected to attend the Team Future Camp in Canberra at the end of May. One of their coaches, Jackie Caldwell, travelled with them to chilly Canberra where they all had the opportunity to meet the new National Coach, Mihai Brestyan. Jackie said the girls worked very hard and she was very proud of them! Chiara & Harriet GYMNAST OF THE MONTH Gymnast of the month is awarded each month (except January & December). Coaches of each squad (excluding Pre Starlets) are asked to nominate a gymnast who they believe is a role model for others in the squad and for younger gymnasts in the club and have also shown improvement in one or more areas over the month. From the nominees, a Gymnast of the Month (for the competitive program) is then selected. All nominees are awarded a certificate, and the winner a certificate & gift. 4 FAREWELL GYMNAST OF THE MONTH cont. As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end which is the case as well say farewell to Kirsten Norden, Shooting Stars Hours coach. Kirst has been at MLC for the past 12 years coaching, assessing, supporting, mentoring and leading numerous gymnasts, parents, coaches and staff. She is highly regarded by so many people due to her warm, compassionate, knowledgeable, empathetic and thoughtful soul and will clearly be missed. But, we wish her well in her new role at the National Centre of Excellence where she can further develop her skills and help develop other s skills in various areas. We know that they will very much appreciate having Kirst on board! Kirst s last day will be Saturday 1st July. STAFF NEWS Congratulations to Nakarin Jaikla, Dance Coordinator, who made it through to the 2nd last round of The Chef s Line which aired on SBS at the end of May! Lara Di Guglielmo, who has been coaching Star Flyers 9 Hours is currently on her way to the other side of the world for study opportunities for 6 months. Brigitte Gilmore, Pre Starlets Coach, will be jetting off to Europe on 23rd June for a month. We are just a teensy bit jealous! Shaolin Jiang, who assists coaching several groups will be flying back to China to visit family for a month on 17th July. Congratulations to Siobhan Turnbull, Star Flyers Hours coach, who has successfully completed her Intermediate Judges Course. Thanks for your commitment to gymnastics and MLC Siobhan!! Tim Lees has gone to Europe with his family to visit family and will be returning in July.
