1 EPS PRESS Issue 1 April 2017 Editor s welcome Hello and welcome to the first ever edition of the EPS PRESS! Eighteen children have been dedicated to completing their articles in time to publish the newspaper. We have different categories for our newspaper including art, cooking, sport and school trips. We hope you enjoy reading this first edition. Please thank all the children who helped and READ ON!!!!! The children have worked really hard on this first edition, putting in their own time outside of school. Enjoy reading EPS Press and have a lovely Easter break. 2 Cooking at Eaton Photo Caption We have started cooking lessons this term. Year 6 have been making pasties as you can see in the photo. Easter recipe Shredded Wheat Nests 200g milk chocolate, broken into pieces 85g shredded wheat, crushed 2 x 100g bags mini chocolate eggs 1.Melt the chocolate in a small bowl placed over a pan of barely simmering water. Pour the chocolate over the shredded wheat and stir well to combine. Easter shredded wheat nests 2. Spoon the chocolate wheat into 12 cupcake cases and press the back of a teaspoon in the centre to create a nest shape. Place 3 mini chocolate eggs on top of each nest. Chill the nests in the fridge for 2 hrs until set. Recipe from BBC good food

3 Eaton Art! At Eaton Primary, we are very creative and enjoy lots of creative subjects. We don t just mean drawing and painting, we do creative writing, creative language and other enjoyable activities. We hope that you will be as creative as us in our school. In Spanish, the language we learn at Eaton, we are studying the Spanish alphabet. It s way different to normal English! Here is the alphabet (in Spanish): The Spanish alphabet

4 Year 3 Year 1 at the Forum Reception Last term reception went to Norwich Castle Museum. Louisa said It as great, 9/10, my favourite part about it was the half model-half statue dragons. The topic this term was bears. Year 1 Last term year 1 went to the Forum for their topic on weather. When Year 1 came back everyone had smiles on their faces. Apparently they behaved really, really well. Year 2 Year 2 went to Banham Zoo to look at Australian animals. They had a really great day, saw giraffes being fed, lions up close and came face to face with an eagle! Last half term, year 3 went to the Fitzwilliam museum in Cambridge to look at the Ancient Egyptians. They looked at real life artefacts in the museum and completed a papyrus painting workshop. It was a long day, we got to school at half seven and didn t get back until four o clock! Year 3 pupil Thomas said It was brilliant! We think it was an outstanding trip and will be very exciting for year 3 s next year. At the Fitzwilliam

5 Year 4 Year 4 enjoyed an African Drumming workshop ran by Anna Mudeka from Zimbabwe (as pictured). Mr Cate says The children particularly enjoyed exploring the Djembe drum. The children were able to link their day to their Science investigation on sound. Year 5 Year 5 had a great day out at the Space Centre in Leicester. They explored the planetarium and lots of different exhibitions from planets to how to operate a space chair. African drumming workshop Year 6 This was a good learning opportunity in case you lose your home. It taught you how to survive in the wild. We interviewed two year 6s about the activities they did, they sounded fun. They did archery and also learnt how to filter water by pouring water through a cloth to catch the dirt. The year 6s also did camp cookery, where they learned how to make bread on the camp fire. They also used the camp fire to make Nettle tea. In addition to the cooking and archery, they learnt how to build dens out of cloth and other natural materials.

6 EPS SPORT In Eaton, we will try our best and will always conquer the rest! Eaton get invited to a lot of interesting events and we all work hard and try to win. We have been invited to two running competitions: the Earlham Park Run and a Norwich Runner s Competition. Everyone who participated did very well and we are all very pleased with their results. Eaton have also been invited to several football events. They have had some real successes this term and we know that the children gave it their all and we are very proud of them too. There was a swimming gala event too for year 5 and 6. This included 4 strokes, freestyle, backstroke, breastroke and butterfly. Relays and medleys continued at the end but the winners of those did not progress to the next round. Every participant showed real passion and co-ordination and the school is very impressed with the turn outs. A special mention to Olivia Dutson and Alex Patterson. We all thank everyone who participated in any of the events as each and every one of them gave it their all and we are hoping that all the children will decide to participate in the lots of other events coming up soon. Another big thank you to all the organisers and parents who took the children to these events and cheered them on throughout the days trials. These people survived the ups and downs of each experience and we are extremely grateful.
