Gene and Barbara Morton, Southwest District President The OSDF Spring Round-up is over, 67 th NSDC Pre-convention in Kansas City is over, so now everyone gets to dance in the Southwest District. I haven t heard what took place in Ada at the OSDF Round-up, but I can verify that the 67 th will be a good convention. Lots of good dancing, food and tours are just waiting on us to get there. Here at home the SWD Officers will be visiting Elk City and Western Swing on April 1 st, and we sure need all the officers to attend. I was told that Nicky had been working on some surprise figures for us to do, so watch out, he is sneaky. Then on April 22 nd we need everyone to attend the SWD Spring Festival at the Life Fellowship Church Gym, 1709 Lyle Road, Weatherford, Oklahoma. The Hi-Steppers are working hard to make us welcome, so come on out and show them you appreciate it. REMEMBER, we will be having a SWD Business meeting shortly before the festival kicks off, so we need each club s representatives to be there a little early. I am sure there will be a schedule somewhere else in the newsletter to give you the time for the meeting. See you there. We picked up a paper called: Emergency Call for Medical Aid. We have shared this information with our clubs during lessons. This last year we had several dancers from other clubs that said they had never heard of ECMA. So we would like to share with all of you this information, since we have experienced a need to use it at some of our dances. Using this alert the Caller will know to stop the dance until the situation is resolved. EMERGENCY CALL for MEDICAL AID When a dancer goes down, a second dancer attends to Him/Her. CALLER S CORNER...by Cecil and Barbara Burton, Jr. Remaining couples in the square join hands and take a step backwards. This will allow the injured person and attendant air and room to check if a 911 call is necessary or just an ice pack, etc. The couples turn their backs on the downed dancer and raise joined We always hope that we never have to use this: Emergency Call for Medical Aid but we need to be prepared in case we do. hands as high as possible in the form of an arched circle. On seeing this signal, the caller or hall monitor stops the dance and immediately ask if 911 is needed. If not this will allow the down person to move out of harms way and the dance can then resume. Something else that is also important is an Accident Report Form that should be filled out by one of the Officers of the Club. This form will be needed if the downed dancer needs to file with USDA Insurance which most clubs purchase for their dancers. Any witnesses to what happened are asked to meet so that the form can be done immediately while they can remember what happened. The guest clubs attending were Hi-Steppers from Weatherford, Western Swing from Elk City, Kalico Kapers from OKC, and Vernon Travelers from Texas. Host for the night were Mike and Myrna Perkins and Kim HUB CITY SQUARES Johnson. Door prizes went to Don Gay and Eleanor Morrison. Birthdays for March were Deborah Bryan, Barbara Preston, and Don Kissinger. Anniversaries; Bill and Pauline Lovelace. Maybe we are just going to skip Spring this year. Western Swing had its monthly dance, March 4th with guests from Hub City Squares and Weatherford Hi Steppers joining in the fun. Nicky Boone did a great job calling although he was a bit under the weather as well as several other dancers who were unable to attend. We were thrilled to have Jim and Burna Cole visiting from San Antonio, Texas. They were long time members of Western Swing and we miss them so much. Those celebrating March Birthdays were Gelene Schreck, Wanda Rizzi, Beverly Petross, William Yow and Clarice Lowrance. Monte and Sandy Schimer won the door prize. Our next dance is April 1st and its Officers Visitation, so looking forward to seeing everyone. Nicky Boone will be calling. On Saturday, February 25, we had the Inaugural Ball and installed District Officers. And, we celebrated Gene Morton s Birthday. Split-the-pot was won by Neola Stephens. We had 12 visitors from Hub City Squares, 2 Wichita Falls Swinging Stars, and 2 Hi -Steppers. March 10, was also a fun dance. Marcia Williams won Split-the-spot. We had visitors from Wichita Falls Swinging Stars and Hub City Squares. We had two squares on the floor. On Saturday, March 25 (potluck) we will be in the Westerner Room of the Auditorium. This will be our Relay-For- Life Benefit Dance. We will have a silent Cake Auction and a Cake Walk along with lots of dancing. Come out and celebrate life. Tim will be calling and Lou will be leading the line dances. Workshop start at 7:30pm and the dance at 8:00.Admission will be donations to Relay. We will not dance on Friday, April 14. We will not dance on Saturday, April 22, so everyone can attend the Spring Festival and Round-UP in Weatherford, OK. 8 The Route 66 Jamboree is held the 2nd Saturday plus the Friday before in July each year Elk City Convention Center, Elk City, Oklahoma The annual Route 66 Square Dance Jamboree is only a few months away, July 7-8, Pre-register before June 15 and have an opportunity to win $225 CASH. You then also have an opportunity to dance with some great dancers and to dance to some great callers. Pick up a registration form today, fill it out and send it in. Be sure you can participate in the FUN. The next Rt 66 CLUB dance will be Saturday, September 30, at 7:30 PM in Taloga at the Community Building where we have danced before. Don and Bonnie Main will be calling. President Mike and Myrna Perkins CLUB dances are held twice a year at a date and place to be announced.
