2 WSC UPDATES SENIOR PARKING Please respect the Senior Parking signs during all club hours. There are many members who have limited mobility and need to utilize these spaces. ROAD WORK ON GARY AVE NEAR WSC ENTRANCE Gary Ave is being resurfaced this summer. Members may experience lane closures and traffic delays. Prairie Ave entrance remains the only entrance to club. Please respect our neighbors and do not drive through Wheaton Oaks subdivision. Those are privately maintained streets, not public roadways. Group Ex NEW CLASSES/SUMMER SCHEDULE The Summer Schedule begins the week of June 5th. Check out the posted signs throughout the club showing all the new classes that have been added to our Group Ex schedule! CRT - Cardio Resistance Training: a combination of cardio and resistance training utilizing the CRT apparatus. Conducive to all ages and levels of fitness. Advanced sign up with number system will be utilized. Spin Boot Camp - Spin class that incorporates strength work utilizing various pieces of equipment on and off the bike Spin and Strength - Class intersperses strength work with weight work RIDE ACROSS AMERICA WSC s RIDE ACROSS AMERICA SAVE THE DATE The WSC 3rd Annual Wooden Racquet Tennis Tournament will be held July 9th from 3-5pm. Watch for more details. LADIES GOLF OUTING Join WSC and Ride Across America this summer. Win 5 cents per mile from June 5 August 20. Attend a Spin class and turn on the Star Trac bike monitor. Instructor will validate the miles at end of class. That s it! WSC will do the rest. Top 25 cyclists will be listed weekly. See your Spin Instructor for more details. The camps are taught by Karie Ericksen, an experienced college and long-distance runner. Run Camp #1 - Tuesdays, 8-9:30am. June 27, July 11, 18, 25, and Aug. 8 (5 sessions) Run Camp #2 - Monday-Friday, 8-9:30am. Aug (5 sessions) Volleyball Camps begin June 19th and are for participants 4th - 12th grade. Passing, setting and hitting skills are emphasized along with game based play. Camps are taught by Mike Lynch, St. Francis Boys Varcity Volleyball Coach. 4 Tennis Summer Tennis Camps French Open Viewing Party There s still time to sign up for our summer tennis camps, which begin the week of June 12th. Our flexible camp scheduling, experienced pros, comprehensive program, premier facility and fun learning environment make WSC tennis the perfect choice for players of all ages and levels. Camps run June 12-August 26, and players may join at any time and select the days they will attend. You can find camp details on the WSC website or call us at ext. 7; and sign up online or in person at the Member Services Desk. Join us for our annual French Open Viewing Party June 9 at 11am (Men's Semi-Finals) and June 10 at 8am (Women's Finals). Enjoy refreshments while we view some of the matches in the member lounge. Cheer on your favorite players as they compete on the clay in famous Roland Garros Stadium. 10U Paris Event & Babolat Demo Day Ladies Doubles Summer Competitive Tennis League Looking for some friendly tennis competition this summer? Join our Ladies Doubles Summer Competitive League, which meets each Thursday and Friday 8-9:30 am here at WSC. Players can sign up to compete on a week to week basis and will be paired with a doubles partner each day. Registrationis now open and league play begins June 1. New players can join at any time. Susan Johnson, sjohnson@wheatonsportcenter.com, for more information. Heat is the number one enemy of strings. Heat and humidity cause your strings to lose tension much sooner than usual. Tension loss leads to a lack of control, feel, and power. As is gets warmer, consider having your racquet strung more Racquet Stringing TIP OF THE MONTH frequently than you normally do. You may also want to raise your string tension a few pounds. Of course, as we continually recommend, store your racquets in a temperature neutral environment and don t leave them in your trunk on hot days.
