February 2017 Grand Worthy Advisor s Heartfelt Reflections Hello Ohio Rainbow! I hope you have had a blessed holiday season and are keeping your spirits bright despite the cold. It s always wonderful to catch up and reconnect with many family members whom you don t get to see that often. This time of year is also great because of the opportunity to reconnect with your Rainbow sisters! If you have been a Rainbow member for a while now, you might notice that most assemblies hold installations in January and February, which provides opportunities to travel and support other assemblies across the state. Through attending so many installations and other events, January has definitely been the busiest month of travel for me so far. However, I ve gotten so much joy out of seeing many girls take an office in their assembly for the first time, or be installed as Worthy Advisor. I have enjoyed learning about the traditions of each assembly and making memories along the way. Now that it is 2017, it s time to start gearing up for our Glowing Grand Assembly in June! Our Ohio Rainbow girls and advisors are doing a wonderful job raising awareness and growing your collections for the Shriner s Hospital. Keep it up ladies! Continue to send me pictures of the girls in your assembly to be included in our Grand Assembly decorations. Also, please continue to write letters to the patients at the Shriner s Hospital, so we can share our Rainbow Glow to the beautiful souls under Shriner s care. I hope to see you at RED Day and the rest of our statewide activities planned for this spring. Please stay warm and safe in your travels! In Rainbow Love and Wishes, Haley Spangler, Grand Worthy Advisor Glowing Greetings from our Supreme Deputy Hello, Ohio Rainbow! I hope you are all managing through this Winter with the hope of Spring just around the corner! My favorite thing about February is Valentine's Day. I love the pinks and reds that you see in the stores, the delicious candies, and of course - the opportunity to celebrate our lesson of Love. Let us be reminded by this holiday to show love for our families and friends but also love for our neighbors, acquaintances, and even passers-by. You never know the impact that a genuine smile, small favor, or simple compliment can have on someone's day. I am excited to announce that we will be starting a new Rainbow Assembly in Steubenville, Ohio on May 20th, 2017 when we will institute, initiate, and install this charter class of new Rainbow girls! I hope you can join us for this rare and special day in Ohio Rainbow. Lastly, I hope you're all getting excited to join your Rainbow sisters for a weekend at Kenyon College for Grand Assembly beginning June 29th. Our Grand Worthy Advisor Haley and 2017 Ohio Grand Officers are planning a fun time, not to be missed! In Rainbow Love, Whitney Poma Supreme Deputy

Glowy has spread her wings and has traveled to most places with our GWA so far. Use the hashtag #glowythebutterfly when she flies across Ohio to your local assembly. Here are some pictures of Haley and Glowy s travels!
Page 3 Reflective Remarks from E.S. Hollen #97 The Exciting Times Of Earl S. Hollen #97! So far this year we have had 2 new members join, Rainee and Sarah. We have also had a beautiful installation with great people to be put in our stations in our Assembly room. At our installation, held on January 19th of 2017, one of our girls Holly J. was asked to be on the 2017 Grand Assembly Honor Court by our Grand Worthy Advisor Haley S. Holly J. graciously accepted the invitation. Everyone was very excited for her. Haley S. made a butterfly as the invitation and had a small gift for Holly. We have been having such a great time at our gatherings. One of the fun nights that we have had so far was when our Assembly got to do each other's nails with our Mother Advisors and her friend s Jamberry kits. We have so many fun events planned for our Assembly this term to make so many amazing memories with. Our charity this term is working to end puppy mills. We're all very excited to be bringing in our girl friends for our new members, so our Assembly can keep growing so we can get the word out about how amazing it is to be a Rainbow Girl. I'm so excited to be the Worthy Advisor for this term with an Assembly filled with so much love and compassion. I can't wait to make this year great! Sincerely, Jillian S. Worthy Advisor Earl S. Hollen #97 Mirror Moments with Medina #106 Medina Assembly #106 began our Grand Year with Colleen H. and Katherine H. serving as a Grand Officers this year. Colleen was appointed as Grand Recorder and Katherine H. Was appointed as Grand Drill Leader. Our fall term was led by Lynzee F. as Worthy Advisor. We started out August with the Donut Hut at the Medina County Fair working with Medina Lodge on their fundraiser. Then we Assisted E.S. Hollen with an initiation of a new member. We were busy throughout the fall, with the Dyslexia Walk, our Grand Reception, the Legion of Honor for Demolay, and welcoming Mom Whitney Poma as our Supreme Deputy. We had fun at the Haunted Houses at Blossom Music Center. We had a great time at our Christmas party in December with Mom Andrews reading a story to help with our gift exchange. Our New Year started with election of officers, serving a Beef Stew dinner and installation of officers. Lily F. was installed as our Worthy Advisor for the spring term and our Grand Worthy Advisor, Haley S. joined us as the installing officer. February is due to be an exciting month with our 60 th birthday party for Medina Assembly at the Western Reserve Masonic Community and Red Day the following week. We are all looking forward to Tri-Youth coming up soon! So many more adventures to come, so many more Rainbow friends to meet!! Until Grand Assembly, In Rainbow Love, Medina #106
Page 4 Amelia #190 Shows a Rainbow Glow Amelia Assembly #190 Our assembly was honored with 2 Butterfly s at Grand Assembly, Samantha Sami C Grand Prompter & Representative to West Virginia and Alisha D, Grand Hostess & Representative to Canada. Alana M was on the Honor Court and could not have been happier if you had given her the world. She felt especially honored by Kaitlynn asking her to serve. Mom Joyce s escort was Madz H. We received an award for our District Banner and we had a lot of fun participating in the Field Events. Our Installation of Officers was held in July with Alisha D. as Worthy Advisor. Thanks to Haley S., Grand Worthy Advisor and the other Grand Officers for doing such an awesome job. Haley had a full day since she traveled on to other Installations in District 20, so she missed the dance after the Installation with our DJ Dave filling the Lodge with a great variety of music. Dance, Dance, Dance!! In September we attended the Buddy Walk at the 5/3 rd Field in Dayton. We had a great walk and Renee T. got to meet and Hug all of the Athletes on the Field. That s all she talked about at the next meeting. And on the way back to the Lodge our group went dress shopping. We tried on lots of dresses and were able to purchase a few new Rainbow appropriate long dresses. We even got a couple for Prom and other occasions. We joined the Amelia Lodge at Sycamore Park for their annual picnic. There was lots of Food & Fun. Our next venture was to the Northwest Temple in Columbus for the Reception honoring Mom Poma. We got to see her as a baby and then throughout her years as a Rainbow Girl. At the Statewide Initiation in Springfield Ohio we were able to see the Grand Officers at their best, what a beautiful ceremony; we now have 2 new Rainbow sisters Rebecca D. and Paige D. Our Assembly is growing. We also attended the Youth Dance later that evening and got to meet some Jobs, DeMolay and other Rainbow at the dance, fun, fun, fun. Our District has a Grand Cross Banquet that was held on November 6 th at the Amelia Lodge. We may be few in numbers but we enjoy this fellowship together. Everyone brings a dish to share; we have some really good cooks, yum. District 9, 12, 20 & 27 Grand Cross & Reception was held in Middletown this year. The room was decorated beautifully with flowers and butterflies and the Entertainment Wittmen Crew were amazing (WOW & cute too). The District Deputies fluttered in on Butterfly Wings. The Mistress of Ceremony Kaitlynn also wore Butterfly wings and the honored Grand Officers had their antennae on. Our next adventure was the Amelia Christmas Parade. Dad Douglas drove his pickup truck that we decorated with a Christmas tree. Some of our Rainbow Elves rode in the truck and some walked along side while passing out candy. It was cold but the Elves came prepared. We are already making bigger and better plans for next year s float. Nothing like starting ahead of time. Amelia Lodge had their annual Christmas Party with Mr. & Mrs. Claus present and a surprise guest The Grinch. The Grinch was scary and made some little ones cry. December 30 was our Sleepover at the Lodge. Let s say there was very little sleeping. We had crafts, painted some items for door decorations for Grand Assembly and other works of art that you will have to visit our dorm to see. We played games, Mom Sepeck has pictures, involved a potato, and a bucket. Very funny, We had Election of Officers & Installation, Alisha D is serving her 2 nd term as Worthy Advisor We were missing a few girls at the Installation due to other commitments and sickness but if all of the Rainbow Members had been there all of the stations would have been filled other than Recorder and Treasurer. Keep up the good work and keep growing. One of our service projects is to help with Buckeye Lodge s Inspection dinner, have apron will travel.
Page 5 Watch us Glow at Brecksville #59 Brecksville Assembly #59 Wow! What a busy year we've had. Grand Assembly was a lot of fun, we earned 3rd place super teams, 2nd place scrapbook, 3rd place banner, 3rd place mascot, and Madison B.'s Lobster costume came in FIRST PLACE! We were so pleased to have Karley S. join us at Grand Assembly. We are very excited for her to begin her Rainbow journey! Cami R. was appointed Grand Ohio Flag Escort and Grand Representative to Texas. We are so proud of her. She is planning on visiting Texas in June for their Grand Assembly. We also had to wish Alizabeth R. good luck as she earned her Majority at Grand as well. We'd like to thank Alizabeth for all of her hard work for Ohio Rainbow and Brecksville Assembly! Our next event after Grand was an Installation. Congratulations to Cami R., who was re-installed as Worthy Advisor. Her term was an art themed one, with paint brushes and paint cans decorating the assembly room. Cami's Sunshine collection went to the Medina Raptor Center, and in August, we were joined by none other than our Grand Worthy Advisor, Haley as we went and visited this wonderful place. We learned about what they do and how they help injured raptors and birds. Their goal, we learned, is to rehabilitate and release these beautiful birds back into nature. Sometimes that works, and sometimes, they are unable to release them, due to the seriousness of their injuries, so they keep them there to help people to learn about them! It's an awesome place! We then got busy planning our Paint Nite event. We knew it would take a lot of time, so we got started early! We held a special honor night for our retiring Grand Deputy, Mom Amy. We've been very fortunate to have her as our deputy for these past 10 years and we will miss her. Cami R. gave a beautiful speech that included a poem and she also used Mom Amy's term quote, "I journeyed to the Rainbow's end and found not gold but you, my friend" to show Mom Amy how much she means to all of us. Everyone cried! We presented Mom Amy with a beautiful Origami owl necklace with some very special charms inside. We are thrilled to welcome Mom Moser as our new Grand Deputy too! Fall is busy for Brecksville Assembly! We played Live- Action Clue! If you've never played, we can tell you, it's quite challenging. We were also very busy making socks and cards for hospital and nursing home patients. We had a lot of fun drawing on the socks with puffy paint to make them non-stick! We got really creative! Our Paint nite was a success! We attended our Grand Reception, Mom Whitney's reception, and had a Trivia day. We also had our traditional Hay Ride and pumpkin pick, and we made a Thankful board to share with the lodge. It was very gratifying to look at what everyone is thankful for in their lives. Winter came and so did the Holiday season. We attended the 2nd District DeMolay Holidays dance and we had our annual holiday party, complete with crafts, bingo, food and of course, a gift exchange! January is installation season, and we just held our semi-annual Installation of Officers. This term is themed "Owl eyes on YOU!". We look forward to a busy spring season with Tri Youth and Statewide Initiation right around the corner! In Rainbow Love and Service, Brecksville Assembly #59
Page 6 Reflections of the Heart with Sigma Tau Alpha Greetings Ohio Rainbow! Ohio Sigma Tau Alpha, the official Rainbow sorority, is stronger than ever and truly fulfilling our motto of Service to All. Due to our membership spanning many colleges and universities across Ohio, our members have been meeting regularly via video chat online in order to converse about ways in which Sigma Tau Alpha can serve others and expand our membership. Last semester, we collected donations for Operation Christmas Child and donated four boxes to children in need. This semester, we are looking to do more experiential service by volunteering at an animal shelter. We also plan to have sisterly social time this semester, and Prep a basket for the Statewide Dance and Basket Auction,. If you know a special girl who is gearing up for college, bid on our basket! As always, we are looking to gain new sisters and exemplify service to all, so if you are a college-bound Rainbow Girl looking to continue your service in college, please talk to one of our members or contact our State Director, Roxanne York (Roxanne44@yahoo.com). In Rainbow Service to All, Ohio Sigma Tau Alpha

Page 9 When Service Matters Most For Ohio Rainbow s service project this year, we will be collecting pop tabs, wish list items, and monetary donations to give to the Shriner s Hospital for Children in Cincinnati. The Shriner s Hospitals for Children is a network of 22 non-profit hospitals that are world-renowned for pediatric specialty care. They treat children with cleft palates and lips, spinal cord injuries, severe burns, and a variety of orthopedic injuries, regardless of the family s ability to pay. To raise money to support this cause, the Grand Worthy Advisor will be selling T-shirts, color changing plastic cups, and Daffin s chocolate suckers. Members of Ohio Rainbow can support the Cincinnati Shriner s Hospital by writing words of beauty to the patients and by participating in our Glow Run.
