In September, we start my favorite season autumn (fall). The first day of autumn is September 22nd. It might be hard to imagine right now with these warm temperatures, but soon we will be enjoying cooler temperatures, beautiful colors, and great events associated with fall. September is an excellent opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy. Take a walk in the Regency park, enjoy the rockers at the Front Entrance, or sit out on the Patio & take in God s beautiful creation. There are several trips we are taking to enjoy the outdoors this month our men will go fishing, and we will be going on a picnic, to name a couple. Of course, there are always the Sunshine Rides on Friday afternoons to enjoy! J.R. takes the residents on some great rides to view all the beautiful scenery East Tennessee provides. So, take the opportunity to get out and enjoy all the beauty that surrounds us. Happy autumn! Trudy Darnell, Executive Director Regency Retirement Village of Morristown
2 recent events NBA s Birthday Celebration August 3rd Those who attended the NBA s Birthday Celebration heard from our very own Johnny Macknowsky. Johnny was a member of the Syracuse Nationals which became the Philadelphia 76ers, one of the first NBA teams. We enjoyed hearing stories from Johnny, as well as celebrating with cake, ice cream & chips. We even played a little basketball ourselves as we learned more about the NBA and about our very own superstar! FUNtastic Friday: Backwards Day August 4th Things seemed a little... backward for our FUNtastic Friday this month. Most who participated had their clothes on backwards, we had breakfast foods for snack, and people were saying goodbye instead of hello. Be sure to join us for our next FUNtastic Friday, September 1st at 2:30 pm for Fashion Disaster Day pair your most outlandish pieces of clothing together and come enjoy the fun! 1 September 2017 Newsletter
3 Elvis & Davy Tuesday, August 15th & Thursday, August 17th On August 15th, we celebrated the King of Rock & Roll, Elvis Presley. We listened to his greatest hits and snacked on his favorite foods, peanut butter & banana sandwiches, biscuits & gravy chips, and Reese s cups. On the 17th, we celebrated TN legend, Davy Crockett, while snacking on ice cream sandwiches. Many still remember the popular folk song about Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier. Solar Eclipse August 21st Many things could be said of the solar eclipse on August 21st. We began by watching live streaming from NASA. By 2 pm, everyone was outside with their eclipse glasses taking a peek at this fantastic event. We enjoyed Moon Pies, Sun Chips, Star Crunch cakes, Sunny D, and Sun Drop refreshments. While we didn t reach 100% totality, it was still pretty amazing! The next total solar eclipse to be seen in TN will be in Regency Retirement Village of Morristown 2

September FUN FactS The first celebrated US Labor Day was on Tuesday, September 5, 1882 in New York City, planned by the Central Labor Union. 10,000 workers marched from City Hall all the way to 42nd Street and then met with their families in Wendel s Elm Park for a picnic, concert, and speeches. Canada is said to have originated the idea of hosting a day honoring the labor movement. In 1872, they held a Nine-Hour Movement to show support for striking workers. welcome New residents!
