We have been very busy selling our merchandise and it is fantastic to see so many supporters proudly wearing their scarves, hats and beanies whilst supporting their teams. We have even managed to get our Principal, Derek Scott, attired with a Bloods scarf! If anyone would like to purchase any of the merchandise, please feel free to contact me on or come and see us at the BBQ tent on First XVIII home games. This year we are raising funds for two major purchases. We would like to extend provision of team jumpers to years 5 and 6 players at all three campuses. We also want to fund a display cabinet and framing of items that record the rich Haileybury football history. This is particularly relevant this year as we celebrate 50 years since the first Haileybury APS football premiership. Please support our main fundraising activities: the match day BBQ at First XVIII home games and our Bogan Bingo night. A reminder that our Bogan Bingo night will be held on the evening of Saturday 18 th July at the Keysborough Campus. We are currently finalising all arrangements with leaflets about the event to be distributed in the next week or so. We will be opening bookings from 1 st June, more details on this to follow. Please mark this date in your calendars and ensure that you come and have a fun evening whilst raising funds for our teams. We will be running a silent auction on the evening, any offers of auction items would be gratefully received. Our home game BBQ has been very busy and well led by our BBQ master Nick Subotsch. I can confirm that the egg and bacon rolls are second to none! We have been very fortunate in obtaining vouchers from Coles at Berwick, Keysborough, and Middle Brighton that we can use to purchase BBQ items. Please support these local Coles stores to thank them for their support of our football program. We would love to hear from you if you are in a position to assist with donations of meat, eggs, rolls, or drinks for the BBQ. Occasionally during the season, boys perform well enough to be selected to play Firsts even though they were not in the Blazer squad at the start of the season. This presents a challenge for those boys to get a Firsts blazer in time to wear to the game. If anyone has a spare Firsts blazer that they can donate that can be used as a temporary measure by these boys please let me know. Finally, a save the date for the football presentation night. It will be held on the evening of Wednesday 2 nd Sept at the Southern Golf Club. Go Bloods 7A MATCH REPORT Bye

Contact Peter Rich on Saturday 30th May Saturday 20th June Saturday 25th July 7B MATCH REPORT The sun was reaching out across the Castlefield oval on a glorious Saturday morning. It was a special morning for the boys as the 7A s coach Mr Dooley came to help out the 7B s. He gave powerful words of wisdom throughout the game which inspired the boys to Victory. The bloods came to play against St Kevin s winning each quarter through hard work and discipline. The boys tried hard to position themselves well all over the ground and grind out the game with competitive will and high skill capacity. The boys controlled the game through continuous efforts and team play. Everyone who played on the day played their role and contributed to a fantastic victory. ROUND 5 NEXT WEEK Saturday 30 th May Rendall Oval HAILEYBURY v MGS We will celebrate INDIGENOUS ROUND Haileybury St Kevins Goals: Flyn 2, Andrew 2, James 1, Nathen 1, Jordan 1, Matt 1 Best: George, Patrick, Sam, Andrew, Ben & Jayden The boys headed out onto Clark oval to begin a great game of football. We were lucky enough to have some of the 7A boys fill some empty spots. Coming off a major loss to Xavier we were all pumped up to go out as hard as possible. Playing against St.Kevs we all knew the game would be tough. In the first quarter, we went out and laid tackles and put pressure on the opposition. This caused turnovers. Haileybury was flying on the rebound and in the clearances. At the end of the first quarter we were 2 goals ahead. Patty was like a brick wall in the back line letting nothing through and the run on the wings from Jayden and George gave us an extra link. In the second quarter, St.Kevs managed to hold us to one goal matching their one goal for the quarter. In the halftime break, Mr Dooley and Mr Salter our joint coaches of the day were making sure that we kept up our defensive pressure. At the start of the third quarter, Haileybury was up by two goals. St.Kevs were battling their way back into the game. But the skills of Haileybury were too good, kicking 4 goals to one in the premiership quarter. Andrew kicked two of these and was playing a ripper. Ben was running beautifully off the half back line and rebounding the football magnificently.

4 In the 4th quarter, there were many stoppages and the ground got very congested. Flynn our ruck man was flying in taps winning almost every one of them. Haileybury kicked another two goals this quarter to St.Kevs one. The siren blew and Haileybury won by six goals. Written by Sam Knight 7B s Belt out the Victory Song at Castlefield last Saturday 7C MATCH REPORT The boys arrived on time waiting eagerly for the young Auskick kids to finish up their session on the oval. Finally the field was ready. We got our positions and off we went. The first quarter started. Scotch started with a bang getting the first points on us. The defenders made a contest out of it but scotch were always throwing their bodies out making it hard for the defenders. Second quarter came along. We got it to our forward line a lot more. Then a great goal from Jai. The defenders like Dhee and Andrew were the ones that kept us in the game. The boys came for one good last half of football. Suddenly a long goal from Louis. This gave us a lot of confidence. The last quarter was all about one on one. This kept the opposition a bit quieter.

5 Unfortunately Scotch came out with smashing 64 point win over us. Overall the boys felt they played better we just need to work on passing the ball accurately and making good use of the ball. Thanks to the B's for helping us play a great game of football and we hope to see you in that team soon. By Blake Hinchliffe Score: Haileybury to Scotch College Best Players: Jai Venturoni, Jed Coinu, Blake Hinchliffe (captain), Louis Pascoe (vice captain) & Nathan Betros. Goals: Jai Venturoni (1), Louis Pascoe (1) & Jack, Scammell 8A MATCH REPORT The 8A footy team were raring to go with the big match against BGS. Despite the venue being changed from the astonishing Rendall to Edrington, the boys still had a smile on their faces and headed out with the same intensity and had a flying start. All the players turned up right on time except for Cody, this is ironic because Cody attends school at Edrington whilst most of the team attends Brighton. Also as Jai only arrived at Half time, this resulted in making the brave choice of putting our backman, Will Barrie, up at Full Forward. We started the game by winning the toss and kicking with the wind. Brighton Grammar looked like a solid team as a lot of the boys play club footy with them, so we knew we were in for a tough match. We had an astounding start by kicking 3 goals in the first quarter. We were weren t surprised to see that Will Barrie was leaping, taking marks and kicking goals for us, but we knew that he was up for the challenge. We had Nick Burke going in hard and Harry Traum kicking out from full back to the middle of the oval, what a massive boost of confidence he was. The first quarter ended up with the score of Haileybury kicking 3 goals 2 points (20) and them 1 goal 2 points (8) The second quarter were pretty even and we headed out for the final quarter 2 points up. It was a struggle and everyone did their best but unfortunately they just pipped us and won by 3 points. Well done boys and we look forward to putting on the bloods Guernsey again next week. 6 8B MATCH REPORT It was a cold morning down at Edrington on Saturday the 16th of May. As everyone arrived you could tell we were all pumped to get our first win on the board. From the start of the game it was very slippery and dewy. We worked hard from the start except St Kevins got away with an early break of a few goals. As the ground dried up we came back applying a lot of pressure and a few people stepping up providing some options. In the second quarter we did things a bit better as we did the little things like punching from behind and not kicking across goal. We also started playing more as a team and looking for each other lead by Devin Hazma stepping up and winning the hard ball and Thomas Waring provided options in the forward line leading strongly. In the third quarter it was a bit of a let down as we lacked voice except we stayed in the contest. St Kevins seemed to get a few cheap goals and our heads dropped but we stayed right in the contest and knew we would have to step up in the final quarter to get a win on the board. In the final quarter we attacked from the start and brought the margin down to 8 points but it was St. Kevins in the end that came home for the win. I would like to say thank you for the year seven players giving us a hand whilst they had a bye. By Davin Neale Best Players: Devin Hamza, Castan Racunica, David Cowell, Davin Neale, Tyrone Foster 9A MATCH REPORT Haileybury Vs St Kevins Goals: Max king 3, Jack Toner 2, B.King 1 Best: Logan, Vaughan, Riorden, M.King, Briggs. This week was a slightly different outcome then the previous match against St Kevins. We knew it was going to be a tough ask coming to Skevs and walking away with a similar result. It was a hard fought game with plenty of opportunities for both sides to score. We used it as an opportunity to learn a few things about each other knowing we can beat them as we showed the week before, the result this week wasn't as important for us going forward. There was a lot more learnt from today's game than we could learn from most others and has set us up well going forward. With a bye this week the boys can look forward to a week off and coming back fresh for our next match.

7 9B MATCH REPORT The 9B's played at Castlefield, Brighton as the Fisher Oval isn't in use. We came up against Scotch who we knew were going to come out firing. After winning the toss a kicking to the school end, we start strong with a quick couple of goals. We managed to keep the lead for the whole game but it was goal for goal most of the time. After Scotch put up a good fight we came out on top. Final Score: to Special mentions to Josh Brown, Jack Bell, James Tully, Daniel Hille and Cooper Nolan. 9/10C MATCH REPORT We had a win! The year 9 / 10 combined side travelled to Wesley optimist of a good showing. After completing a solid warm up to acclimatise to the wet conditions, the boys dominated the general play in the first term yet still trailed by two goals at the first change. The boys knew that they had to make the most of their scoring opportunities and that was the spur they needed, piling on 6 second quarter goals to lead by 20 points at the main break. Josh Iurescu s ruck work, Red Fennessy s competitiveness up forward, Dilen Samarakoon s tackling and Lachlan Venten s freakish ability around the goals saw the boys run out 23 point victors. Best players also included Lucas Noack, Wayne Robertson and James Trewin. Lachlan Venten kick three goals, two a piece to Lucas Noack and Red Fennessy, and singles to Lachlan Eddey, Hamish Lambert, Lachlan Paynter and Wayne Robertson. 10A MATCH REPORT The 10As were strengthened this week with boys being back from State trials and other sporting commitments. It was great to finally have a home match and the weather and condition of the Rendall Oval was perfect. The Bloods started the game well and were in front at the first change thanks to the domination of Ross in the backline and his fellow backman who stood up to the constant pressure. Controlling the footy was difficult due to the slippery conditions and from half time, St Kevins moved the ball fast and direct in comparison to the bloods trying to overuse it and resulting in turnovers.

8 Cappiello, Rogerson and Coleman worked tirelessly in the middle, but St Kevins were also very classy around the midfield. Forward pressure and converting opportunities when inside 50 hurt the home team and eventually St Kevins ran out victors at the end of the day. Overall the score was closer than when the two teams met in the previous week, but it was disappointing not to get the win, given that it was so close all day. We now look forward to taking on Carey at home again this week. Score: H Bury 3.4 (22) to St Kevins 5.15 (45) Best Players: Ross, McIntyre, Nasser, Coleman THIRD XVIII MATCH REPORT With the Fisher Oval still out of action, the 3rds were summoned to the 'Home of Football', the North Oval at the Brighton Campus to play against Caulfield Grammar. Usually the domain of Year 7 and 8 footy, the North Oval was going to be the scene of some bone crunching contested footy. To open up the play we had arranged a 16 a side game, which was just as well as we ended up with only 18 players as per usual for the 3rds. After 5 minutes of play Caulfield Grammar looked to be up for the challenge and had taken a small lead. Then we put on the jets. Slamming on eight quick goals the game was effectively over as a contest. With Ranel Seneviratne leading the way in the ruck our onballers of Luke Shimmin, Elliot Green and Will Stock kept pumping the ball forward. Gun full-forward Harry Bingham began to hit the scoreboard and fellow forwards Jake Smith and Lachy Moody were also able to kick multiple goals during this period. Caulfield put up more of a fight in the second term and at one point strung together three goals in succession, but we steadied through Luke Shannon to go to half time with a 55 point lead. The third term saw Bingham ping'em from all angles as he added five of our eight goals for the quarter. With the lead now up over 100 points we slowed down a touch in the final term, but Mathew Pereira hit Harry with a lace out pass to bring up his tenth goal for the game. It was a great effort from the boys with Sam Templeton, Will Smith and Michael Poulos all standing out in defence. Tim Cleary, Chase Dickson, Henry Smart, Vadim Ragozin, Chris Bilston and Tim Richardson played their part too in ensuring we won with a huge team effort. Next stop for the 3rds after our bye next week - Xavier at Xavier. The big game in 3rds footy! Final Scores: Haileybury d Caulfield Grammar Goalkickers: Bingham 10, Moody 5, Shannon 2, J.Smith 2, Shimmin 2, Green 2, Cleary 1, Seneviratne 1, Pereira 1 Best: Bingham, Seneviratne, Pereira, Moody, J. Smith, Stock

9 SECOND XVIII MATCH REPORT The Magoos played St Kevin s for the second week in a row, this time on the Rendall Oval. The Bloods had a week to think about the previous game, which did not go as hoped. The coaches were looking for greater effort; sheer hard work would be required if we were going to match it with a team as welldrilled as St Kevin s. The boys certainly knew what to expect. Ohh Magoo, You ve done it again The Bloods started the game with plenty of energy. Algeri won plenty of the ball around the stoppages, and Sharpe and Jackson were on top in the ruck. Ventouras and Paul were giving plenty of drive across the wings. When Hurley marked and kicked truly from 40m, the boys took an early lead. The effort was there; however, as the quarter wore on St Kevin s started to get on top and made the most of their forward entries. Some skill errors let the Bloods down and St Kevin s took an 18 point lead into quarter-time. The second quarter continued with the same pattern emerging. Haileybury once again matched them in general play, but the greater efficiency of St Kevin s was showing on the scoreboard. The defenders, lead by Roberts, Forster and Seccull, worked hard but we could not get the ball out of our backline with any purpose. Three late St Kevin s goals put the margin out to 37 points at half time. The Bloods were outgunned but never threw in the towel. Paul, Algeri and Kirkwood continued to work hard after half time but St Kevin s were just too good. Hetherington gave us something up forward, slotting a classy goal from the pocket and narrowly missing another. Molino s little cameo in the middle late in the game was eye-catching. The final margin did not reflect the way the game was played, as the Bloods were competitive for large stretches of the game. After two weeks against St Kevin s the boys will be happy not to play them again for a little while. The Magoos are already looking forward to the challenge next week, down the highway at Geelong Grammar, and are keen to return to the winner s list. Score: Haileybury 2.6 (18) lost to St Kevin s (109) Goal Kickers: Hurley, Hetherington Best players: Algeri, Roberts, Jackson, Sharpe, Paul, Kirkwood FIRST XVIII MATCH REPORT When a team kicks 4 goals 18 behinds to lose by a point, you would normally say that it was bad luck. But not in the case, it was simply a case of Haileybury making their own luck! The home team s constant relentless pressure was so great, St Kevins struggled to take advantage of the opportunities presented to them due to the conditions that were allowed to them. The game plan for the day was that if Haileybury matched them on the inside, we would get them on the outside. Coaches often say that if you stick to the structures and if

10 everyone plays their role, you should get the result you deserve. And in all honesty, Haileybury thoroughly deserved to beat St Kevins last week and to do it by the smallest margin possible, made victory even sweeter. Big Kieren Collins set the standard in the first quarter laying 5 strong tackles as the Bloods took a strangle hold against the benchmark of the APS. With 7 open teams, St Kevins have plenty of depth, but the Bloods had 21 players all playing their role, matching the opposition for strength. Cam Polson and Matt Lee were awesome through the midfield, and the Year 10 first gamer Oscar Clavarino was solid on the last line, but it was captain Corey Rich that everyone was talking about after the game. Leading by 10 points at ¾ time, the Bloods let slip the lead to go 11 points down with 4 minutes left on the clock. But the character by the boys, led by the skipper, to show GRIT and determination gave them what they deserved. Getting the clearing handball in the opposition goal square, Corey bolted down into the forwardline to present and then mark 45m out and on an angle. Cramping, yet composed, he preceded to put it through post high. One minute later, the captain, willing himself into the contest, received a free kick 25m out and on a 45 degree angle. Again, showing composure beyond his years, he went back a slotted yet another goal to put us in front with less than a minute left on the clock. Who would have thought that he d kicked 0 goals 6 behinds the week before. Talk about the ability to handle pressure. And who could forget, Luke Dalmau taking himself behind the ball in the last minute to take the saving mark in the opposition s goal square with only seconds left on the clock. St Kevins were stunned! They couldn t believe it and they regretted the trash talk, saying say goodbye to your premiership chances when they went 11 points up with 5 minutes to play. Note to self never trash talk while the game is still in dispute, especially when you re playing against the Bloods. The Haileybury First XVIII now travel to Geelong Grammar to what will be a tough game coming off such a memorable win. It was great to see such a large crowd there on Saturday, and it would be great to see another great crowd back at Keysborough on the 30 th May when the boys take on arch rivals Melbourne Grammar. Final Scores: Haileybury St Kevins Best: Collins, Polson, Lee, Clavarino, Connelly, Globan Goals: Battle 2, Rich 2, Dalmau, Polson
