This was the last fundraising event to raise money for the Year 6 Farewell and what an outstanding day they had, raising $1258 for this year s spectacular event. Year 6 is very appreciative of your fantastic efforts and we cannot thank you enough. Sporting Excellence Congratulations to our student who participated in the Under 13s Representative Softball last Saturday and Sunday. They won the State Championships, which was last achieved in Well Done! Academic Success A few weeks ago many of our Yr 3-6 students participated in the English University of NSW academic competition. We would like to congratulate all of the students who participated. Galston High School Band Workshop Galston High School is inviting students from Glenorie Public School to attend a Band Workshop day on 15 th October from 9:30am 2:30pm. Parents will be able to attend a concert at 2:00pm to showcase their achievements of the day. If you wish your child to attend the band workshop there is a $10 fee and a permission note with further information which can be obtained from our office. The $10 and completed permission note needs to be returned to the office by 11 th October. Stage 3 is Off to Camp! On Tuesday 17 th Friday 20 th September, our Year 5 and Year 6 students will be off to Canberra and the Snow on their exciting adventure. It is going to be a great four day program. I am sure they will have a fabulous time. Getting Ready for School Camp School camp is one of the highlights of childhood, however, it's also true that for some children (and their parents) the thought of staying away overnight can create a little anxiety. Lyn Pearce Principal Glenorie Public School Debating Squad Northern Sydney Region Premier s Debating Challenge Wrap Up The Northern Sydney Premier s Challenge was finalised with our last debate contested at Normanhurst West Public School on Wednesday, 14th August, Teresa Catania, Jade Cali, Pippy Stephens and Elizabeth Zouein battled admirably; with Marine van der Merwe providing reserve support. They argued strongly, clearly demonstrating improvements in their delivery and manner. Victory was Normanhurst West s and the teams were very evenly matched. Normanhurst West Public School were lovely, friendly hosts. This debate marks the end of our involvement in this year s Northern Sydney Region Premier s Debating Challenge. Congratulations to all the debating squad for their efforts and enthusiasm. Local Interschool Debating Competition Round Five Round Four of the Local Interschool Debating Competition was hosted at our school on Thursday, 22nd August, 2013 against Galston Public School. The team chosen for this debate was Marine van der Merwe, Eloise Norton, Mia Rowe, Nathan Fox and Teresa Catania as reserve. The students enjoyed hosting our visitors and working hard at their preparation. The topic was Cinderella had no right to go to the ball, which proved to be a very close debate. Victory went to Galston Public School. We will have the opportunity for a return challenge hosted by Galston Public School on Tuesday 15th October 2013, Term 4 Week 2. Team selection and further details will be published shortly. Mrs Bellamy Debating Coordianator A big thank you to all members of the Senior Choir for the hard work and dedication you put into preparing for the ArtsNorth Choral Festival Concert at the Sydney Opera House. I felt privileged to share your excitement and to be part of such a memorable experience. It was a fabulous night and your professional attitude and behaviour was outstanding. It was an absolute pleasure and honour to be your teacher. I would also like to extend a big thank you to all the parents, relatives and friends who have supported the students singing this year by ensuring they were on time for buses and always immaculately dressed. Thank you also for taking the time to make the trip into the city to be in the Opera House audience. Finally, I d like to thank Mrs Pearce for facilitating the purchase of our shirts, books and CDs. It is with such support from the principal, staff and community that we can offer these extraordinary experiences to our students. I will be applying for the chance to do it again in 2014, with a new crop of singers. The 2013 Senior Choir will be performing at assembly this Friday.
