1 Newsletter MAY 2008 McQuitty and Ambrose Sweep to Victory in Member / Member Tournament Lockhart and MacLean Claim Net Division by a Single Stroke, Roger Strisik Aces #5 Phil McQuitty and Dave Ambrose blistered the golf course in Sunday s alternate shot and scramble round to claim the gross division victory in the two-day Member / Member Tournament. The duo entered the final day trailing Bill Eskridge and Bob Gardiner by six shots. Eskridge and Gardiner had claimed the first-day gross lead by posting a 67 in Saturday s better ball round. McQuitty and Ambrose fired a 4 under par 32 on the front nine in alternate shot and a 5 under par 31 on the back nine in scramble to overtake Eskridge and Gardiner. No other team broke 70 gross on the second day of competition. The net division was a battle throughout the two days of competition. Bob Brennan and Jim Murphy held a narrow one-stroke lead over several teams in the net division with a 64 on day one. Luke Lockhart and Andy MacLean fired a net 66 on day two, including a back nine 30, to claim victory over the Brennan/Murphy and Chad Mitchell/Chris Warfield teams who finished a stroke back. See complete tournament results on page 3 of this newsletter. The event highlight was an ace recorded by Roger Strisik on #5 Sunday. The hole was playing approximately 203 yards from the back blue tees. Roger, who has played golf since age 13, used a hybrid club to record his first hole-in-one in 43 years of playing golf. Congratulations Roger! The members of the winning gross and net teams have earned the first automatic berths onto the 2008 Ryder Cup team which will defend The Cup against Pleasant Valley Golf Club on August 16th and 17th in the 7th Annual SRGC/PVGC Ryder Cup Matches. See the current Ryder Cup points list on page 4 of this newsletter. Editor s Note: The winning teams were kind enough to pose for pictures after the tournament for inclusion in this newsletter. I also took a picture of Roger Strisik to publish with details of his hole-in-one. Unfortunately, I suffered a senior moment and inadvertently deleted the pictures from my camera. The 2008 Member/Guest Tournament is the largest and most expensive event hosted by the Club each year. To assist in funding the event, the Golf Committee encourages members to solicit sponsorship contributions from local businesses. These businesses receive advertising in the tournament program and the SRGC Newsletter. Some also receive signage on the golf course. See pages 4-5 of this newsletter for information on how you can assist in obtaining sponsors and the benefits you receive. This year, the Golf Committee is also introducing a new Member/Guest fundraiser. A club member has secured a donated vacation prize to use to raise money for the tournament. The Golf Committee is excited to announce the SRGC Member/Guest Fundraiser raffle. The member holding the winning ticket will receive a five-day, fournight vacation for two adults at the Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun Resort in Mexico. Secrets Capri is an adult-only, All-Inclusive resort. The winner will be responsible for airfare to and from Mexico but everything else is included! * The drawing will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at the Member/Guest Awards Dinner. You need not participate in the Member/Guest Tournament or be present at the dinner to enter. The prize is valid through July 26, 2009 and some blackout dates apply. He had planned to be ready to play in time for the start of league play but his doctor had advised him to wait a bit longer. Ilana Gavin has been subbing for Gordon. If players receiving automatic berths are unable to participate, their place will be filled from the points list in the order of finish. All members earning spots on the team will receive an invitation from the professional staff. If they are unable to compete, the next member on the points list will be invited to compete until the team is complete. The RED names on the points list indicate those members who have earned automatic qualification.

5 2008 SOUTH RIDING GOLF CLUB Member/Guest Sponsor Program Member Information Note: Please do not provide this sheet to the sponsors. This is member information only. The Member/Guest Sponsor Program provides an opportunity for members to partly or fully offset the cost of their Member/Guest tournament fee while providing funds to enhance the event and support neighborhood schools. The sponsor program will run through June 30. There are three levels of sponsorship; the $500 Hole Sponsor, the $250 Program Sponsor and the $100 Tournament Sponsor. The details of what a sponsor receives for sponsoring the event are explained on the sponsorship application attached. There may be a business that would be willing to make a non-cash contribution of goods or services to the tournament. Such things as food, beverages or other necessary supplies must be discussed with Club management and approved by them. If the non-cash contribution is accepted, the member obtaining the contribution would be given credit for the dollar value of the contribution. All completed sponsor forms and payments must be received by the Club no later than Monday, July 7th. A member arranging the sponsorship will receive the following credit toward their tournament fee: $500 Hole sponsorship = $150 credit to member/guest tournament fee $250 Program sponsorship = $75 credit to member/guest tournament fee $100 Tournament sponsorship = $30 credit to member/guest tournament fee The maximum credit a member may earn from obtaining multiple sponsorships is $480, the tournament fee. Any fee credits a member generates above the tournament fee will be added into the general event fund. In order to prevent potential sponsors from being solicited multiple times, please be aware that the businesses listed below have already been contacted by members for possible sponsorship.
