Twenty-eight of us met for Dining Out together on May 12 at the new German Gasthof Restaurant in Southern Pines thanks to Eleanor Chajkowski and Elly Moses.

On June 14, we will meet at the Pinehurst Country Club for Sunday Brunch thanks to Nancy Nielsen.

Your Act 2 Executive Board is in full swing with lots of plans for the upcoming months. Twenty-eight of us met for Dining Out together on May 12 at the new German Gasthof Restaurant in Southern Pines thanks to Eleanor Chajkowski and Elly Moses. Lyra Rittger has arranged for us to once again enjoy the lovely gardens of John and Susan Pfisterer for Thirsty Thursday on May 28. On June 14, we will meet at the Pinehurst Country Club for Sunday Brunch thanks to Nancy Nielsen. The book for June s Book Club is Me Before You reports Susan Scheck and Lunch Bunch will dine at Four Seasons on Broad Street on June 10 reports Ann Torok. While most of our Bridge groups continue to play thanks to Bob Nielsen and Joe Gregory, Pat Lambie, and Sheila Henderson, the Wednesday Biweekly Ladies Bridge Group is taking a break for the summer. The only down side is we still need a secretary. So far executive board members Eleanor Chajkowski and Judy McCaffrey have been taking notes in addition to their other duties. Although we thank them for their efforts, it is unfair to keep asking them to perform additional duties. I am confident that one of you will volunteer for the position soon. Sue Griggs, President

Every twist and turn felt honest and not exploitative as the author took me on a journey of love and discovery. July reading is The Shoemaker s Wife by Adriana Trigiani. We will reevaluate in September to see if schedules have cleared so we can get at least 8 players for a fun game of party bridge. Lunch Bunch PLEASE NOTE DATE CHANGE On Wednesday June 10, Act 2 members who enjoy eating lunch out will meet at Four Seasons on Broad. This is in the place where Max s was a few years ago- 311 SE Broad St., Southern Pines. They are in a small shopping plaza, where there is a laundromat. It is nearly a block away from Gulley s Garden Center, on the same side of the street. The restaurant has been remodeled and it has a pleasant and casual décor. Their lunch menu is interesting. The favorite includes turkey. Bacon, tomato pesto mayo, avocado and spinach on toasted sunflower bread at $9.79. (When I ate there with friends, people enjoyed this sandwich.) My husband had the Philly for $8.29- it was on a large hoagie roll. With the good side salad that was a large serving. I ordered half the roast beef (on sour dough) with a cup of soup- as the sandwich was the daily special; my lunch was only $8. (Delicious. I don t think I could have eaten a whole sandwich, as it was so large.) Other sandwiches, which come with fruit, chips, fries or a salad, are the shrimp tortilla or open faced roast beef at $8.59. There is also chicken breast with tomato pesto mayo, spinach, mushroom, onion and cheese on toasted sunflower bread at $9.49. They offer five different burgers- starting at $7.99 (with cheese, L, T and onion). A Burger with bacon, two cheeses and chipotle mayo is $8.29. Also, the Portobello mushroom as a burger is $8.29. Their salads sound good too. Chicken breast over greens is $9.79; shrimp or salmon over the green salad is $13. (Same price for Caesar salad.) The club salad is $8.50. The spinach, strawberry and pecan salad is $8.
