1 Riverhill Reporter March 2018 The Club continues to grow at a moderate rate each month. Membership retention has been much stronger in the winter months as compared to previous years. Our vision is to continue growing The Club, while our membership enjoys an extraordinary sense of pride and membership value. Southern Golf s desire is to make consistent improvements whenever possible. In March, we will be constructing the reclaimed water pond and will be renovating the Practice Tee. The Reclaimed Water Pond will significantly change #4 as it is today. We will be providing the engineered plans in the golf shop and main office for our membership. Not only will this be a great asset to the future of the Riverhill Country Club, it will greatly beautify hole #4. The Practice Tee area has been an issue for some time. Our plan is to greatly enhance the hitting surface and provide turf that will recover more rapidly than where we are with current conditions. The Clubs tree program is currently underway. We will be removing 7 trees and will be cleaning and trimming 42 trees. Our desires are to continue this program annually. We have experienced several successful events and dining nights in past months. We want to thank all of you for supporting Club Events and dining programs. This activity is vital to the

2 success of Our Club. I look forward to some warmer weather and a great Spring at Riverhill Country Club. Please continue to invite potential members to Our Club and together let s continue to establish Riverhill as The Club to belong to and be a part of. From The Desk of Bryan Hargrove We made it through the winter months with mild weather for the most part. As the temperatures begin to rise, so has interest in Riverhill. This year is going to be exciting around the club with the improvements on the course, in the clubhouse, and all throughout the facilities. The membership department is planning a couple of appreciation and membership drive events in the upcoming months. Check your future newsletters and s for the times and specifics of these events. When was the first time you ever heard about Riverhill? Let me know when you first heard of our fine club and I will put it in future newsletter. I think it is very interesting to know how we came together to be a part of the Riverhill family. 4 Golf Ladies Clinics will be Thursday mornings at 10:00, March 1st 29th, we will cover putting, short game, full swing and on course for $10 per session. March May we will have a guest special that includes lunch and golf on Wednesday s for $50. Bring your guests out and enjoy the day. Invitations for the Byron Nelson Invitational will be ed out this month and posted on the website and available in the Golf Shop. This year s dates are May 17th 19th. The entry is $825 per team plus a team gift valued at $50 or more to be given away during the event. The format will be match play this year and the limit will be 36 teams. This is a great event with fantastic food and events. It is a great opportunity to show your guest all Riverhill has to offer. Starting Tuesday March 13th we will resume our weekly shamble at 5:30. The entry is $10 cash, call before 3:00 the day of to reserve a spot. The Turning Point will be open afterwards for dinner and drinks. Our goal is 28 players each week so come out and join the fun. Fred Apffel will try to defend his Riverhill Cup Match title starting March 20th. Individual matches are scheduled between the players and brackets will be announced once the 32 spots are filled. This year each flight will consist of four players and the first 3 matches will be round robin within

5 the flight. Our next club event is the Spring Member Member which will be held on March 17th & 18th. The format is one net best ball of the team using Point Quota scoring. Shotgun times are 9:00 on Saturday and 1:00 on Sunday. The entry fee is $85 and includes lunch on Saturday, appetizers on Sunday, and prize money. Please sign-up in the golf shop. Our big Spring Demo Day will be Tuesday, April, 3 rd. Taylor Made, Callaway, Ping, Cleveland and Cobra will be here with their newest equipment from 10:00-2:00. Golf ball promos - Titleist March 22 nd April 22 nd purchase 3 dozen or more Titleist ProV1 or ProV1x and receive 1 dozen of the same type ball at no charge. Taylor Made is offering the same promo March 1-April 15 on their TP5 balls. Come by the golf shop for details. Did you know: On Saturday s the club has a running Skins game. The cost is $5 on Saturday s that you play and you just have to have your name added to the Skins list. The skins are net and the field is divided into 2 flights by adjusted handicaps. Also there is a hole in one club, $5 for aces made at Riverhill with a witness. Just call the shop to add to the list or verify if you are on the list. Here goes: As you admire your soaring, beautiful tee shot with a slight draw landing softly right in the middle of the fairway, is it

6 better to be on your home course with three of your friends watching, or is it better to watch it soaring past the beautiful palm trees with the ocean in the background at a resort somewhere? As with most existential questions, it is not meant to be answered, simply pondered. That s likely all I can do as soaring, beautiful tee shots with a slight draw are not exactly my strength. But it s fun to think about it. As this column goes to press (is that a phrase that will disappear like dialing a phone?), Carol and I are in Cabo San Lucas, gazing out on the palm trees and the ocean. And it is raining in Kerrville But that s a good thing! Rain means green grass and green grass means green fairways and green fairways means MORE GOLF! After a tough January and February, it is time to get after it. Thank you also to Jenny Mitchell for organizing the Foot Joy show and cocktail event. March 7 th is the monthly meeting date at 10:00 a.m. with a scramble to follow at 11:00. Daylight savings time begins March 11 th so the remaining Wednesday tee times in March will be at 9:00 a.m. with ACE of the Month on March 21 st. Gill Davidson is Captain for Stableford Interclub this year and wants to know who is interested in playing. Please let her know if you haven t done so already and make sure you are aware of

7 changes to the team structure. Matt is conducting Ladies Clinics on Thursday mornings at 10:00 during the month of March, a good opportunity for a spring tune up! The grass is growing again, committee heads are working on events, Matt is giving lessons so head to the course and let s have some fun out there! Tennis Riverhill Country Club Director of Tennis Garry Nadebaum has had a busy past few months. Garry has won 2 singles and 2 doubles titles and is now ranked #3 in the ITF World Men's 50's Singles and #2 in Doubles. Garry ended 2017 winning the Campeonata Nacional Masters ITF Mexico City men's 50' singles and doubles titles. In January Garry returned to Australia where he won the Australian Tennis Seniors National Championship Men's 50's Doubles title held on the Gold Coast in Queensland. This past week Garry defended his singles title at the 2018 Wilson/Mayfair Seniors event held in Toronto, Canada. Garry won a tough singles final 6/3 6/4 over Martin Lemay (Canada). In the doubles Garry teamed up with Charles Gembes (Canada) in the Men's 45 doubles who he won

8 the title last year but they were beaten 6/1 3/ in the third set tie breaker to Jason Christie and Glen Harwood (Canada). Riverhill Country Club offer tennis memberships and programs for all ages. Garry Nadebaum offers the best tennis instruction and training in the Texas Hill Country. We teach and train all levels and ages of players.
