2 PRESIDENTS REPORT JANUARY 2017 Only a short report this month. I hope that everyone had some time to recharge and enjoy the season with family and friends or doing what you wanted to do. But in this 24/7 world I would expect some have been just as flat out as always keeping the wheels turning is now underway and things will quickly return to normal pace, and so it will be with the club. In December we concluded with the highly successful and enjoyable Christmas Rally Experience. That was commented on last month, and gives us food for thought for similar events in the future. We also had the final 2016 Bunnings Sausage Sizzle on Saturday December 17. Being pre-christmas it was very busy and we got through 85kg of sausages on a hot day to turn over some good funds for the club s future equipment programs. Great result and thanks to all who turned out to help. It also marked the last sizzle Barry Neuendorff s did as sole convenor. For 2017 he is handing over the tongs to Barry Farrell, (the NEW Barry) who has his first sizzle coming up on Monday January 30. As always Barry will be after volunteers so please consider giving even a few hours to help out with set up starting at 6.30am and running through until at least mid-afternoon. I wish also to acknowledge the absolutely tremendous contribution Barry Neuendorff has made over the last few years with his single-minded devotion to keeping the club going. I know at times people might have questioned why we were sizzling sausages. The short answer is at the time, it is not being over-dramatic to say, the club was in pretty shaky financial straits. A couple of years of accumulated losses had drained all reserves. Barry and his band of volunteer s efforts kept us afloat at a critical time and with a fair wind, going forward we can start looking to reinvest in the club through equipment and other initiatives. So, the 2017 calendar of major club events has been published and is included in this magazine. The weekend of February 11/12 is coming up fast and is the weekend of the 2017 Future Auto Rally Experience. The Road Book is written, course checks start this weekend and much planning is underway. We are looking to achieve three things: 1. Provide a Come n Try component for prospective competitors to attempt a 4km true forest stage with their own (or Mum s, brothers, boy/girlfriends) road car. There will be mentors on hand to provide support for those wishing to investigate driving or co-driving. 2. Provide a Test n Tune component for seasoned competitors to do as the name suggests. Prepare for the coming season over 2 full forest rally stages. 3. Look at realising and enhancing the talents of our vital volunteer officials. With an expanded calendar, we need people to step up into administrative (event secretaries, scorers), command (future Clerks of Course, radio operators, HQ personnel), Stage Officials, Scrutineers and Course Cars to name a few. If you have ever thought about being an official or about stepping up to a more senior position, we will have experienced officials on hand to show you the ropes. So, stay tuned for notice of future events by or on Facebook or the club s new website. On that subject, the club has updated its website. It is a fresh modern look

5 BSCC 2017 Event Calendar Building on the dedication and hard work of our organisers, members, supporters and competitors throughout 2016, BSCC has great pleasure in announcing an expanded 2017 event calendar. Please note that there are more events planned for the year! This is our major event calendar and we do plan to have driver training days, officials training activities, shed nights and club nights TO BE ANNOUNCED. Stay tuned. Two Test n Tune sections, approx. 13 and 5 km in the Jimna forest, tight and technical in parts and open and hard packed in others after logging. Saturday and possible Sunday. Based in Jimna with newly upgraded facilities, hot showers and a double chip fryer. Alternate date set aside of Feb in case of a wet summer. With the welcome support of Future Auto Wynnum and Farkeen Rally Team April 1 SR Automotive Manumbar Rally 1 st round of 2017 MRF Tyres QRC Manumbar Simon and Margot Knowles Following the hugely successful, innovative and enjoyable 2016 event, Simon and Margot and their team are back to organise the opening round of the 2017 MRF Tyres QRC. Based in and around the Manumbar Campdraft grounds and running over around 130km of mixed forest and shire roads in the Manumbar Nanango district, with the continuing gracious support of SR Automotive June 24 July 22 KCF Rallysport Short Course Challenge Pace noted event, Round 1 KCF Rallysport Short Course Challenge Pace noted event, Round 2 Jimna Peter Flynn Glastonbury Craig Porter Long term supporter KCF Rallysport is back behind the running of 3 short course rallies in the SEQ area over the course of The events will be based in 3 different locations with 3 different organising teams to give variety. Focused on offering opportunities for competitors to practice pace notes or just have a run over around 60km in tight compact daylight events.

Building and learning from the first full event on 2016, Ian and his team are back to provide a high quality event over around 130km of challenging, technical roads with a bit of everything. P3 Solutions are also lending their continuing support as is the friendly Benarkin school community. 8 Motorsport 2017: The year ahead By Peter McKay (Wheels Magazine) Jan 02, 2017 World Rally Championship While VW has certainly disappeared as a factory team, back for 2017 are automotive giants Citroen and Toyota with dramatic new-look challengers boasting extra power, less weight, bigger rear wings and more noise all designed to improve the roadside action for fans. Craig Breen and Stephane Lefebvre joins veteran Kris Meeke to spearhead Citroen's full-tilt return to the WRC in the aggressive-looking C3. Meeke will drive in all events, with Breen and Lefebvre alternating in a second car until the team elects to run a third C3 WRC mid-season. Spearheading the Yaris campaign in 2017 will be experienced Jari-Matti Latvala, formerly with VW, and Juho Hanninen, who has been handling much of the testing for Toyota ahead of the Japanese manufacturer s return after a 16-year absence. After first testing a Toyota Yaris WRC and then the new Ford Fiesta, free agent four-times world champ Ogier settled on the M-Sport drive for Ogier will lead the M-Sport team with Estonian, Ott Tänak, the campaign starting at Rally Monte Carlo in January.

9 But the possibility of a private VW Polo entry in the 2017 WRC continues to bubble away. The cars have been already developed by the same people who have swept aside all opposition for four years. Volkswagen Group motorsport boss Wolfgang Durheimer says a priority is to get the Polos back into the WRC with the help of private backing. The bottom line is that VW doesn t intend to be spending a dime on rallying any more. Durheimer explained that VW Motorsport s technical expertise is available for anyone with the budget. His aim is to see Polos on the startline at the Monte Carlo event in January, and then tackling the whole WRC. All of that is conjecture, but certainly a possibility..

12 Future Auto Wynnum T: Thorne Street, Wynnum Q 4178 Saturday 11 th & Sunday 12 th February 2017 provides competitors old and new a chance to get out in the forest for some valuable seat time! This event has numerous components : Come N Try Event : Giving brand new competitors the opportunity to experience a true forest stage in a safe, friendly environment with experienced mentors on hand to guide you through the process. The stage will be approx 5kms long and is suitable for your standard road car. Like a normal rally, your car will need to be checked for general safety requirements and you will need to carry some basic safety items in the car during the event. You ll also need to wear a helmet during the stage and appropriate clothing refer to the Supplementary Regulations for more information. A CAMS Day licence is required and that can be purchased on the day through the Club. Test N Tune : This is for competitors in CAMS log booked rally cars only. All the normal rally requirements are needed along with licences etc. We will have two stages for the test N tune plus the opportunity to run on Sunday as well (subject to appropriate numbers being reached). Officials Training Day: We re looking for officials who would like to step into different roles to use this day as their training ground in a low level non-competitive environment to either develop or hone your skills in a new role. We encourage officials who would like to learn about : Radio Communications, Stage Commanders, Event Secretaries wanting to learn about paperwork or any other role you feel you d like to have a crack at.

13 This event provides prospective competitors and current or new officials clear direction on how to step to the next level in their chosen part of the sport. Catering will be available all weekend at Jimna so you may want to make a weekend of it and stay the night. The facilities at Jimna have been recently upgraded and they now have showers (and a double chip fryer) so a freshen up after the event is available to all and hot chips apparently! Clerk of Course Peter Flynn advised that thanks to forestry harvesting the roads have also seen a recent upgrade and we have loads more options than previous years. Quote from Peter is ; With the completion of logging, the heavy trucks have rolled the roads down flat and hard in many areas, some areas are now clear felled, and so a whole new experience awaits. There is a bit of everything, lots of tight and technical and more open and fast than before. The roads selected for both the Come and Try and Test N Tune are in excellent condition.
