2 The Ottawa Fury Soccer Club Our League Our Teams The Ottawa Fury Soccer Club enters its 11 th season in the Nation s Capital. Over those 11 years the Club has grown from a single W-League team to adding a PDL team, an 8-team Youth Program (U14-U17), an 8-team Academy Program (U10-U13), a Reserve Program along with numerous skill development programs and camps. Fury teams, at all levels, participate in elite leagues and tournaments on the local, provincial, national and international stage. The United Soccer Leagues (USL) was founded in 1986 and has become the largest organization of elitelevel soccer leagues in North America by building on the vision, commitment, and passion of players, fans, and investors. Now in its third decade of operation, USL continues to be a driving force in the growth of soccer in the United States, Canada, and Caribbean. USL provides a clearly defined path for the progression of male and female soccer players beginning at the youth level (USL Super Y-League), continuing up through the amateur level (USL Premier Development League/USL W- League) and on up to the professional level (USL First Division/USL Second Division). A platform for countless players to reach for their dreams each year, USL is devoted to developing the sport at the grassroots level in every community across the region. The Fury Men s PDL Team celebrated their 5-year anniversary in 2009 and did so in fine fashion by becoming only the 7 th team in PDL history to post an undefeated regular season with a record of The team captured the Northeast Division title and its first post-season birth. With the Fury Men having not lost at home since June of 2007 (14-0-4) coupled with a core mixed of local and international talents, attendance has grown to an average of 486 per game with a crowd of 850 that saw the Fury capture the Northeast Division title and a boisterous crowd of over 1000 witnessed the Men s first-ever playoff game. The Fury Women s W-League Team celebrated 10-years of success in 2009 and, like their PDL counterpart, made it a memorable season earning their 6 th consecutive Divisional crown and the Central Conference title en route to the Championship Semi- Finals. With four New Zealand Internationals (better known as the Kiwi-connection) mixed with local talent the 2009 Fury Women posted a record in front of an average attendance of 403 with their largest crowd of over 600 coming against rivals Laval Comètes and former Fury and National team striker Christina Julien. The Fury Women will look to eclipse the century mark for wins in 2010 as they currently boast an all-time record of The Fury will be inducted into the USL Hall of Fame in November 2009 for their 10 years of competition and success. 2 Integrity Community Excellence

3 The Ottawa Fury Soccer Club Our League Our Programs The Fury Youth Program has grown into one of North America s top Youth programs with 8 teams (U14-U17 Boys and Girls) that play in the USL s Super Y-League (SYL). Over the past three years the Fury have sent 14 teams to the SYL North American Finals and in 2008 had their U17 Girls reach the Championship Final. Fury Youth teams play in the New England Division against oppositions from Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts. Youth teams also travel to international tournaments such as the prestigious Foyle Cup in Northern Ireland, the Gothia Cup (Youth World Cup) in Sweden and the Plomelin Tournament in France. Over the past 5 years, 53 graduates of the Fury Youth Program have earned scholarships to NCAA schools in addition to other graduates who play at Canadian Colleges and Universities. The Fury continue to be ranked among North America s best. The Ottawa Fury Youth Program was ranked 8 th of 96 clubs in the 2009 SYL rankings. The Fury Academy Program enters into its 5 th season and is a key compo nent in the Ottawa Fury s Player Development Program. The Ottawa Fury s approach to player development relies on the same model used in leading soccer nations that in recent years have been adopted by progressive North American clubs. Led by Academy Technical Director Frank Lofranco, the Fury Academy (U10-U13 Boys & Girls) is staffed with knowledgeable and specialized coaches offering a comprehensive and integrated approached to player development. In 2009 the Fury U11 Boys captured the Robbie Tournament Championship along with two other major tournament victories that season. The Fury School of Excellence Program kicked off its third season this fall beginning with 5 free sessions, as it does each year, offered to players at the key development age of 8-13 who want to develop their soccer skills under the stewardship of some of the region s top coaches. In the last two years over 1000 players from Ottawa and the surrounding area have participated in this program. The Fury Soccer in Schools Program proudly enters its 8 th season after a very successful 2009 campaign that saw 33 schools and over 5300 students, between the ages of 4-13, take part in the program that runs in partnership with Health Canada. Using soccer as the medium, the Ottawa Fury are aiding Health Canada s goal of increasing the amount of physical activity of inactive children and youth by 30 minutes more per day. Over the past two years the program has visited 60 schools and over 9400 students. The Fury Camp Program offers camps during the March Break and the summer that tailor to youth aged In 2009 the Fury partnered with English Premier Club Tottenham Hotspur who brought four coaches to Ottawa to run our High Performance camps for two weeks in July that saw over 130 youth enjoy this amazing experience. The Fury also run community camps throughout Eastern Ontario in communities such as Perth, Portland and Brockville. Integrity Community Excellence 3

4 The Ottawa Fury Soccer Club Our Leadership Our Future John Pugh, CEO & Owner John acquired the Ottawa Fury Soccer Club in July of 2002 and immediately put his mark on the franchise in implementing a PDL and Youth program that have flourished since their inception. John has enjoyed a diverse and very successful playing career (Swansea City, Llanelli, Durham City, Sheffield FC), career in academia (Carleton University, School of Computer Science), high technology (The Object People) and business (BEA Systems Inc.). He is currently a member of the W-League Executive Committee, the OSA Technical Committee and was a member of the Site Organizing Committee for the Ottawa portion of the 2007 FIFA U20 World Cup. Most recently John and the Fury have partnered with the Ottawa Sports & Entertainment Group (OSEG) in a proposale to bring a professional USL-1 franchise to Ottawa. Steve Hill, Youth Boys Technical Director Currently starting his 6 th year with the Ottawa Fury, Steve is the holder of an Ontario Provincial B License and has had tremendous success coaching both boys and girls with the Fury. Steve s teams have made 4 appearances in the SYL North American Championships and in 2008 his U15 Boys team posted an undefeated season going Steve is the proud recipient of back-to-back Fury Coach of the Year Awards in 2007 and He was promoted to Youth Boys Technical Director in the fall of As a player Steve played in semi pro leagues in England and here in Canada with Ottawa St. Anthony Italia. As a youth player he was trained at Leicester City F.C and Notts County F.C of the English Football League. Dom Oliveri, Youth Girls Technical Director Holder of an Ontario B License, Dom is one of the most successful Fury Youth coaches who continues to aid in player development which led to his promotion to Youth Girls Technical Director in the fall of During his tenure with the Fury his youth teams have appeared in the SYL North American Finals in each of the past 5 seasons, 3 Divi sion titles and 2 US National Cup Regional Championships. Dom has also been the W-League Assistant Coach in 2006 and they have captured the division title in each of those four seasons and captured two conference championships. He was also named Fury Coach of the Year in Frank Lofranco, Academy Technical Director Frank Lofranco is best known for establishing the Ottawa Fury Women s team as an elite team in the W-League with international recognition including being ranked as high as seventh in the world. Over six years as head coach Lofranco had a remarkable record of and led the Fury to two championship finals. He has more than 10 years experience in player development at ages from 5 through 14. He served as the first Club Head Coach of the Etobicoke Soccer Club and oversaw the introduction of player and coaching develop - ment programs for a club of more than 2,000 players. As a player, Frank played in the National Soccer League, Canadian Soccer League, and American Professional Soccer League most notably for the Toronto Blizzard SC and Toronto Italia SC and represented Canada in the 1987 Pan-American Games. Stephen O Kane, PDL Head Coach Stephen O Kane is a name synonymous with soccer in the Nation s Capital and has the record to prove it. After capturing a National Championship and four Provincial titles with the Algonquin Thunder, he was appointed Head Coach of the Ottawa Fury PDL Team in 2008 and turned the program miles around guiding the team to a record in his first season and bettered that in year two posting an undefeated season en route to their first division title. Stephen is a born winner and his goal is to bring home the PDL Championship to Ottawa. He was also named Fury Coach of the Year in During his tenure as head coach Steven has amassed a record of Craig Smith, W-League Head Coach Smith was born in Canada but grew up in the heartland of Scottish football in Greenock near Glasgow. Following in the footsteps of his footballing father s professional career, Smith played in Scotland and went on to play in the Australian 1 st Division. He moved to Vancouver in 2002 and turned to coaching when his playing career came to an end. A Canadian National B level coach, Smith has gained a growing reputation working in the Vancouver area alongside coaches of the caliber of Tony Waiters, Derek Possee and Carl Valentine. During his tenure as head coach Craig has amassed a record of Integrity Community Excellence

6 The World s Game Our Reach Your Audience Figure Provincial/Territorial Players CSA Demographics Report Ontario and Quebec combine for over 64% of registered soccer players in Canada There are over 90,000 registered players in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec Our Facilities The Algonquin College Soccer Complex is the year-round home to the Ottawa Fury. The new $5.4 million soccer specific facility has all of the amenities for both players and fans alike. With seating as close as 10 yards from the field, fans have the opportunity to be very close to the action. This facility offers tremendous visibility for sponsors from a scoreboard banner to field-level signage the Algonquin College Soccer Complex truly provides a first-class soccer environment. Of the 265 million players throughout the world 43 million, or 16%, are from the CONCACAF nations Of the 22 million registered Youth players worldwide the CONCACAF nations represent 5.2 million, or 23.6% Canada ranks 10 th in the world among registered players and are ranked 3 rd in the world among registered female players.
