Steel FC has claimed only one draw in four previous meetings against the South Carolina club and has scored only once. PREVIOUS MEETING Playing for the second time in a 19 day span, Steel FC came up short against Charleston. Much like the first contest in 2017, the Battery tallied a first half goal to claim all three points. Atlanta United forward Romario Williams tallied the game-winning goal in the 32nd minute. COACH S CORNER Bethlehem Steel FC head coach Brendan Burke: On the loss to Nashville... Obviously disappointed with the weekend but very happy with the way the players responded to the way everything started. The energy level, the ground they covered, I think it was another important step forward us to establish what we want to be at home this year. Again we showed signs of progress from what we have been over the last two years so happy with the performance, upset with the result but we ve moved on from it. On the status of team captain James Chambers As of right now [Wednesday afternoon], James hasn t trained with the team so far, he s been working with our trainers in the gym but the plan is to have him back into training by the end of the week. I can t comment on his availability but right now [the injury] doesn t look severe. On preparing for Charleston I think they ve replaced players well but its taking a little time for them to gel but they showed during preseason that they are capable of beating MLS sides so I m not of the mindset that they are a weak or poor team. The Red Bulls [II] game got a little frantic and end-to-end but they have good athletes at every position. They are able to compete and win their duels on a regular basis already early in the season. They are a very organized group, Mike [Anhaeuser] s groups never give up and I d imagine off the back of giving up five goals this past weekend on the road, they will be hyper focused on keeping us out of their goal.

With the forward racing toward the goal line, he lifted a cross which Guerra collected for the tally. Steel FC nearly knotted the match in the 36th minute after an impressive play from Philadelphia Union rookie Marcus Epps. The forward connected with Aaron Jones for a quick one-two and into the Charleston penalty area. Epps dribbled around a pair but a curling shot missed the far post. Steel FC came out of the locker room and controlled the final half in search for an equalizer. With nearly 60 percent of the possession in the final 45 minutes, Steel FC delivered all three of their shots on target but was unable to find the tying goal on the road. Cory Burke created one of the squad s best chances, showcasing his pace to cut inside and build an attack before passing it wide to Epps. On the ensuing volley, Seku Conneh s header was stopped by goalkeeper Odinsel Cooper. In the waning moments of the match, Steel FC generated another chance from Santi Moar. Chasing down the ball, he swung it out wide for Burke. Despite a furious second-half comback attempt, the winning goal came off the foot of Atlanta United forward Romario Williams, who notched his eighth goal of the season in USL competition. After missing the club s first matchup in Charleston three weeks ago due to illness, the Jamaican forward showcased his scoring abilities with a 32nd-minute goal. Steel FC dominated possession in the opening half against Charleston, as the squad looked to break down the conference leaders. Steel FC showed no loss of pace after the Williams goal, continuing to press and pin the Battery on their side of the field. The result led to a season-high 528 passes and a strong 81 percent passing accuracy despite constant rain during the early 11 a.m. start time. Team captain James Chambers, who tied the club s record for most starts with 29, nearly lifted the squad to a 1-1 draw in the waning moments of the match. With the club searching for an equalizer, the Irish midfielder fired a shot from 20 yards away that was denied by the crossbar.

8 2018 BETHELEHEM STEEL FC TECHNICAL STAFF Head coach Brendan Burke Burke is in his third season as head coach of Bethlehem Steel FC, coaching the squad to an regular season record during the club s first two seasons in the modern era. He was formally introduced as the club s first head coach on Oct. 29, 2015 and recently signed an extension to remain with Steel FC for the foreseeable future. During his two seasons with Bethlehem Steel FC, he has navigated 63 different starting XI combinations in 65 career matches while guiding three players to first team contracts with Derrick Jones in 2016 and the duo of Cory Burke and Matt Real after the 2017 season. Overall, Burke had coached 64 players including 25 players with ties to the first team and 12 from the Philadelphia Union Academy the past two seasons. Prior to joining Steel FC, Burke served as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Union from 2011 through He was heavily involved in all levels of the U.S. Soccer pyramid, including serving as head coach of the Union s PDL affiliate Reading United from where he had a record of During his time with Reading, Burke coached 49 players that signed professional contracts including Ray Gaddis, C.J. Sapong, John McCarthy and Matt Hedges. Burke served as associate head coach at Northeastern University in Assistant coach Stephen Hogan Hogan, who formerly served as the head coach of the Philadelphia Union s PDL affiliate, Reading United, is in his third season with Steel FC. Hogan guided the PDL squad to a record in his two seasons with Reading United. The club went and won the Mid-Atlantic Division title along with an appearance in the Eastern Conference finals. Hogan followed up with an even stronger record in 2017, tying for the most wins in the 72-team league. During the season that saw the club reach the postseason for the ninth time in 10 seasons, Hogan s squad conceded an Eastern Conference-low 10 goals. As a Reading player under Brendan Burke, he made 52 appearances, second most in club history, while playing from He helped lead the team to the 2009 PDL Regular Season Title and the PDL National Semifinals in 2008 and A native of Dublin, Ireland, Hogan spent two seasons as head coach at the College of Saint Rose s men s soccer program.
