This year the club will be aiding the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley, with the two organization s coming together to benefit families throughout the region as the upcoming school year approaches. The supply drive seeks donations of new school supplies with all supporters that donate receiving two complimentary LVHN Lawn tickets to the Aug. 12 contest at Goodman Stadium on the campus of Lehigh University. foundation for the upcoming school year. Supplies in high demand from PCFLV include spiral notebooks, folders, pencils, rulers, colored pencils, book covers and highlighters. Drop off locations will include the Bethlehem Steel FC front office located at 44 East Broad St., Suite 135, in Bethlehem. Donations will be accepted at the office Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Fans can also bring their supplies to the PCFLV office at 25 West 3rd Street in Bethlehem during the same hours. After going unbeaten in June, Steel FC has cooled off with just one result in its five contests this month, with the latest snapping the club s eight-match home unbeaten streak on Thursday. PREVIOUS MEETING Meeting for the first time earlier this month, Atlanta United claimed the first victory in the series with a 2-1 result at home. Brandon Vazquez and Oliver Shannon led the way for Atlanta while Steel FC fought back into the contest late, as forward Aidan Apodaca found Derrick Jones to trim the deficit to one. And I think on the other side I think they were deliberate about flooding that space and making sure we didn t run on. On the move to substitute Faris off at the half for Aidan Apodaca... [The substitution] was done so that we could recognize the need to be able to press and to add some energy to the front line on the defensive side of the ball, it s part of our style of play. In a matchup of two squads with MLS affiliations that saw 31 total fouls, the match went in the host s favor Wednesday evening as Atlanta United got goals from Brandon Vazquez and Oliver Shannon. Steel FC fought back into the contest late, as forward Aidan Apodaca found Derrick Jones to trim the deficit to one. Facing off against seven players from Atlanta United, Steel FC settled into the contest and nearly opened the scoring in the fifth minute as Santi Moar dribbled from the flank into the box and fired a right-footed shot that beat the keeper but rang off the far post. With momentum on their side, the match turned in the 18th minute as Moar forced a turnover and was taken down on a hard challenge by Miles Robinson that forced the 23-year-old to leave the contest. As Steel FC regrouped, Atlanta United 2 took advantage as Vazquez collected the uncleared ball from the defense and chipped McGuire for the opening goal. Atlanta doubled its lead in the 50th minute, taking advantage of a set piece that saw Shannon fired a left-footed shot from distance that snuck through the defense and into the back of the net. Trailing by a goal, Steel FC stepped up the pressure and controlled play over the final 20 minutes of the contest. Relying on its bench for extra energy, the trio of Prosper Chiluya, Drew Skundrich and Apodaca injected the added boost. After a long ball from Chiluya, Apodaca won Steel FC a crucial corner with three minutes remaining. On the service from Adam Najem, Apodaca poked the ball to Jones, who dribbled to his left and beat multiple defenders before finding the back of the net.

8 2018 BETHELEHEM STEEL FC TECHNICAL STAFF Head coach Brendan Burke Burke is in his third season as head coach of Bethlehem Steel FC, coaching the squad to an regular season record during the club s first two seasons in the modern era. He was formally introduced as the club s first head coach on Oct. 29, 2015 and recently signed an extension to remain with Steel FC for the foreseeable future. During his three seasons with Bethlehem Steel FC, he has navigated 81 different starting XI combinations in 83 career matches while guiding four players to first team contracts with Derrick Jones in 2016, the duo of Cory Burke and Matt Real after the 2017 season and Olivier Mbaizo earlier this year. Overall, Burke had coached 74 players including 29 players with ties to the first team and 17 from the Philadelphia Union Academy the past three seasons. Prior to joining Steel FC, Burke served as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Union from 2011 through He was heavily involved in all levels of the U.S. Soccer pyramid, including serving as head coach of the Union s PDL affiliate Reading United from where he had a record of During his time with Reading, Burke coached 49 players that signed professional contracts including Ray Gaddis, C.J. Sapong, John McCarthy and Matt Hedges. Burke served as associate head coach at Northeastern University in Assistant coach Stephen Hogan Hogan, who formerly served as the head coach of the Philadelphia Union s PDL affiliate, Reading United, is in his third season with Steel FC.
