PREVIOUS MEETING Bethlehem Steel FC earned its first shutout of the year with a 3-0 over rivals New York Red Bulls II. Ngalina struck for his first professional goal in the first half, collecting a pass from Philadelphia Union midfielder Adam Najem. The final half saw forward Cory Burke collected two assists, finding Fabian Herbers and Adam Najem for insurance goals in the second half. COACH S CORNER Bethlehem Steel FC head coach Brendan Burke: On the draw at Cincinnati I thought it could have been a win if we had stayed on level terms, obviously the situation was what it was and we can t change that so I was really proud of how resilient we were in front of 23,000 people. To hold our nerve, to hit back even when we went down, credit goes to Matt Real, Michee [Ngalina] and Fabian [Herbers] for putting that play together for us to get the goal back when we went down 2-1. We talk about being relentless all the time, we talk about bearing fearless and that is a shining example of that in my mind of applying that mentality to a game. On the youthful influence and its contributions recently Our average age is 22 or just under 22 but I think you are looking at more experienced young guys because we ve stuck to the script over the last two years. [Matt] Real has played in a lot of games, [Anthony] Fontana hasn t played in as many due to injury but has played in a lot of high level games now, [Derrick] Jones has a played in a ton of them. Even though these guys are 18, 19, 20 years old, they understand what the demands are and are starting to apply responses to it which is great to see and pleasing from my end. The young guys stepping in like Ben [Ofeimu], making a big tackle on the end line and he s only three games into his career and he s only 17. There is more coming from behind the group that has already established us as a decent young team. We still have a ton of work to do this year and Wednesday s test will be a fun one but always a stressful one because you know how much energy and pressure Red Bull brings to the arena. On if he s preparing for something extra given the string of success against New York Those past matches are irrelevant at this point, we only focus on the games in front of us and we ll prepare like we ve not played them before. We take the information from those games but from a mentality, that s a massive trap to walk in and think you know how to beat a team because there is too much talent in their group. They are a talented young group and very similar to us in how they are constructed and the way they use their USL team so we have a really talk task on Wednesday.

With the goal, Ngalina became the youngest scorer in Steel FC s history. The second half saw former Steel FC forward Cory Burke collected two assists, finding Fabian Herbers and Adam Najem for insurance goals in the second half. Union goalkeeper John McCarthy made two saves while the defense added three blocks to pick up the clean sheet and snap New York s seven-game unbeaten streak. After absorbing New York s high-intensity press, Steel FC made a subtle gameplan change that set up the winning goal in the first half. With the Steel FC defense pushing the ball into the New York box, Herbers collected a headed clearance and laid it off to Najem in the center of the pitch. The 23-year-old quickly found a wide open Ngalina on the left side of the box in which the Kinshasa, D.R. Congo, native delivered into the back of the net with a right-footed curler. The second half continued the high-pressure by both sides which Steel FC capitalized upon. After a turnover in the defensive third, Cory Burke pushed the ball upfield and fought off a defender to the center stripe. With the defense in retreat, the Jamaican international threaded a pass to Herbers who took two touches before firing from 20 yards out and inside the far post. Steel FC concluded the scoring in stoppage time off yet another quick play from Burke. After forcing a deflection out of play, Burke quickly led Najem into the box with a throw-in. Najem shielded off his defender to turn toward goal before taking a left-footed touch into the near post.

8 2018 BETHELEHEM STEEL FC TECHNICAL STAFF Head coach Brendan Burke Burke is in his third season as head coach of Bethlehem Steel FC, coaching the squad to an regular season record during the club s first two seasons in the modern era. He was formally introduced as the club s first head coach on Oct. 29, 2015 and recently signed an extension to remain with Steel FC for the foreseeable future. During his two seasons with Bethlehem Steel FC, he has navigated 75 different starting XI combinations in 77 career matches while guiding four players to first team contracts with Derrick Jones in 2016, the duo of Cory Burke and Matt Real after the 2017 season and Olivier Mbaizo earlier this year. Overall, Burke had coached 71 players including 29 players with ties to the first team and 17 from the Philadelphia Union Academy the past three seasons. Prior to joining Steel FC, Burke served as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Union from 2011 through He was heavily involved in all levels of the U.S. Soccer pyramid, including serving as head coach of the Union s PDL affiliate Reading United from where he had a record of During his time with Reading, Burke coached 49 players that signed professional contracts including Ray Gaddis, C.J. Sapong, John McCarthy and Matt Hedges. Burke served as associate head coach at Northeastern University in Assistant coach Stephen Hogan Hogan, who formerly served as the head coach of the Philadelphia Union s PDL affiliate, Reading United, is in his third season with Steel FC. Hogan guided the PDL squad to a record in his two seasons with Reading United. The club went and won the Mid-Atlantic Division title along with an appearance in the Eastern Conference finals. Hogan followed up with an even stronger record in 2017, tying for the most wins in the 72-team league. During the season that saw the club reach the postseason for the ninth time in 10 seasons, Hogan s squad conceded an Eastern Conference-low 10 goals. As a Reading player under Brendan Burke, he made 52 appearances, second most in club history, while playing from He helped lead the team to the 2009 PDL Regular Season Title and the PDL National Semifinals in 2008 and A native of Dublin, Ireland, Hogan spent two seasons as head coach at the College of Saint Rose s men s soccer program.
