Steel FC is seeking its fifth-consecutive result against its rival, with the match being only the third contest away from Goodman Stadium. PREVIOUS MEETING Despite a brace from Stefano Bonomo, Steel FC rallied with a pair of goals over the final six minutes to draw New York Red Bulls II, 2-2 back on June 20. Chris Nanco provided the spark with a pair of assists, finding Matt Mahoney on a headed chance for his first professional goal. On the final play on the match, Nanco fired a cross to the far post that James Chambers tapped in to complete the comeback. COACH S CORNER Bethlehem Steel FC head coach Brendan Burke: On the 1-1 draw against North Carolina FC... I don t think that we were particularly good in the first half but you walk away from a game where they had one shot on target in the game and you draw 1-1 again at home. Disappointing given the effort we put forward in the second half. I was really happy with the effort in the second half and the intent to get into the box a little bit quicker. I hate using that word but we were really unlucky there at the end. On the debut of Omar Holness He was excellent and it was good to have him out there and it was great to see. He s worked so hard to get back to this point and it definitely gives our group energy. It s an important piece coming back into our group and now whenever the minutes are available, we ll do our best to get him up to full speed as fast as we can now. I thought his contribution was real, he did create some chances but he also his calm on the ball. There were times when it wasn t on that he was able to put his foot on it and help us slow things down a little bit. On if changes at the MLS level will have an impact on Red Bulls II No, I think they are a system oriented club and their staff is close. From Jesse, I don t know Chris as well but knowing John for awhile, I think their focus will remain the same and if you are Red Bulls II, why would you change anything about what you ve done or the way you ve done it. I don t envision any systematic changes there at all.

New York jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from their captain, Stefano Bonomo. After converting from the penalty spot in the first half, it seemed he had lifted Red Bulls II to its first road win of 2018 with a counter-attack strike in the 84th minute. After attempting just one shot in the first half, Steel FC came out a different squad in the final 45 minutes taking 11 shots and earning 8 corners. While Red Bulls II doubled its lead, Steel FC substitute Chris Nanco rallied the squad with a pair of big assists to earn an important point. Nanco trimmed the lead to one with a perfect service into the box that connected with an unmarked Matt Mahoney for the defender s first professional goal. Steel FC wasn t done as Nanco once against scrapped together a final chance in added time. With seconds remaining, the Canadian chased down a poor clearance near the corner flag. Taking a quick touch to his right, he fired across the six-yard box that went through three defenders and to a wide-open run from James Chambers who tapped it in.

8 2018 BETHELEHEM STEEL FC TECHNICAL STAFF Head coach Brendan Burke Burke is in his third season as head coach of Bethlehem Steel FC, coaching the squad to an regular season record during the club s first two seasons in the modern era. He was formally introduced as the club s first head coach on Oct. 29, 2015 and recently signed an extension to remain with Steel FC for the foreseeable future. During his three seasons with Bethlehem Steel FC, he has navigated 79 different starting XI combinations in 81 career matches while guiding four players to first team contracts with Derrick Jones in 2016, the duo of Cory Burke and Matt Real after the 2017 season and Olivier Mbaizo earlier this year. Overall, Burke had coached 72 players including 29 players with ties to the first team and 17 from the Philadelphia Union Academy the past three seasons. Prior to joining Steel FC, Burke served as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Union from 2011 through He was heavily involved in all levels of the U.S. Soccer pyramid, including serving as head coach of the Union s PDL affiliate Reading United from where he had a record of During his time with Reading, Burke coached 49 players that signed professional contracts including Ray Gaddis, C.J. Sapong, John McCarthy and Matt Hedges. Burke served as associate head coach at Northeastern University in Assistant coach Stephen Hogan Hogan, who formerly served as the head coach of the Philadelphia Union s PDL affiliate, Reading United, is in his third season with Steel FC. Hogan guided the PDL squad to a record in his two seasons with Reading United. The club went and won the Mid-Atlantic Division title along with an appearance in the Eastern Conference finals. Hogan followed up with an even stronger record in 2017, tying for the most wins in the 72-team league. During the season that saw the club reach the postseason for the ninth time in 10 seasons, Hogan s squad conceded an Eastern Conference-low 10 goals.
