Not only was Allen s second-half brace the fifth multi-goal effort in Steel FC s young history, he became the first player to score twice in his club debut. INSTANT IMPACT BY ROOKIE CATALANO Entering as a second-half substitute to make his professional debut, rookie midfielder Mike Catalano wasted little time making an impact. Checking into the match in the 87th minute, the 22-year-old delivered a threaded through pass between the Kickers defense toward Brandon Allen for the match s final goal and Catalano s first USL assist and point. STEEL FC LEADS USL IN PASSING AND GOALS The opening week saw Steel FC a top a pair of categories for the first time in the club s history. Bethlehem Steel FC was one of three teams to tally four goals in their first match, joining Charlotte Independence and Swope Park Rangers. Steel FC also leads the league in passes, attempting 608 in the club s win over the Richmond Kickers on Sunday. Team captain and midfielder James Chambers led the way with 118 passes while Philadelphia Union midfielder Derrick Jones is fourth with 77. The Saturday night affair will be the third all-time meeting between the two clubs, with both teams looking to claim three points for the first time in the series. PREVIOUS MEETING Playing for the second time in four days, Bethlehem Steel FC and the Tampa Bay Rowdies once again battled to a stalemate. Facing a hostile atmosphere, Steel FC made the most of its lone shot on goal as Seku Conneh collected a pass from James Chambers and beat the keeper. The Rowdies fought back and answered late in the match as substitute Sebastian Guenzatti tallied the equalizer. COACH S CORNER Bethlehem Steel FC head coach Brendan Burke: Takeaways from the Richmond match It was pretty much what I expected to see after the game. I thought we were well in control of the game for most of it, there were only one or two spells where [Richmond] got on the ball and were able to connect and that is to be expected in any game. I thought we did very good job of accomplishing the things we set out to and that is really hard to achieve. Happy with the start and hopefully whatever group we put out this weekend can get close to replicating that in a much tougher environment. On what stuck out from Tampa Bay s victory against North Carolina FC The quality of their individual players is excellent, probably at or near the top of the league in terms of experience but also quality and it really flows through their whole team. There is not going to be anything easy about going to their place. They were pretty well organized and probably sat a little deeper than they wanted to at times and the game became a little wide open in transition moments but I think for them to go away and win 3-1 at North Carolina FC and to be coming home to very big crowd sets us up for a very difficult game. I don t think we change our approach at all but I do think there is going to be a lot more critical moments in the game than there were last weekend. On the importance of limiting mistakes against the Rowdies Mistakes are somewhat natural when you have a lot of turnover in terms of personnel so it s important to stress a high level of focus for whoever is involved in the game this weekend. When you are in possession, not just relaxing and enjoying that possession but having a purpose and a tempo to what you re doing.

8 2018 BETHELEHEM STEEL FC TECHNICAL STAFF Head coach Brendan Burke Burke is in his third season as head coach of Bethlehem Steel FC, coaching the squad to an regular season record during the club s first two seasons in the modern era. He was formally introduced as the club s first head coach on Oct. 29, 2015 and recently signed an extension to remain with Steel FC for the foreseeable future. During his two seasons with Bethlehem Steel FC, he has navigated 60 different starting XI combinations in 62 career matches while guiding three players to first team contracts with Derrick Jones in 2016 and the duo of Cory Burke and Matt Real after the 2017 season. Overall, Burke had coached 58 players including 25 players with ties to the first team and 12 from the Philadelphia Union Academy the past two seasons. Prior to joining Steel FC, Burke served as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Union from 2011 through He was heavily involved in all levels of the U.S. Soccer pyramid, including serving as head coach of the Union s PDL affiliate Reading United from where he had a record of During his time with Reading, Burke coached 49 players that signed professional contracts including Ray Gaddis, C.J. Sapong, John McCarthy and Matt Hedges. Burke served as associate head coach at Northeastern University in Assistant coach Stephen Hogan Hogan, who formerly served as the head coach of the Philadelphia Union s PDL affiliate, Reading United, is in his third season with Steel FC. Hogan guided the PDL squad to a record in his two seasons with Reading United. The club went and won the Mid-Atlantic Division title along with an appearance in the Eastern Conference finals. Hogan followed up with an even stronger record in 2017, tying for the most wins in the 72-team league. During the season that saw the club reach the postseason for the ninth time in 10 seasons, Hogan s squad conceded an Eastern Conference-low 10 goals.
