1 DUCKS GAME NOTES WEDNESDAY, MAY 31, :35 p.m. Bethpage Ballpark (6,002) Central Islip, N.Y. Game #39 Home Game #21 RECORD: VS SEASON AT A GLANCE RECORD: DUCKS NEWS AND NOTES The Faithful Flock: Since their inaugural season of 2000, the Long Island Ducks have welcomed an Atlantic League record 7,111,615 fans through the gates of Bethpage Ballpark. Long Island reached the 7 million fan mark faster than any other team in league history despite having begun play in the ALPB s third year of existence (2000). In addition, the team has hosted a league-record 663 sold out crowds all-time. The Ducks led the league in average attendance during the 2016 season at 5,265 and have now led the league 14 times in 17 seasons. Ducks vs. Skeeters: Tonight marks the second meeting of the season along with the 101st all-time meeting between the Ducks and Skeeters. The all-time series is tied at 50 apiece, but the Ducks hold a edge at Bethpage Ballpark. Long Island won the 2016 season series between the two teams 11-9 and took six of the 10 meetings at Bethpage Ballpark. However, Sugar Land went on to sweep Long Island in the 2016 Atlantic League Championship Series. Waddle-Off Magic: The Ducks earned their fourth walk-off victory of the season and second straight on Tuesday, courtesy of Giovanny Alfonzo s infield single in the 11th inning. It was the second time the Ducks have waddled off in back-toback games this year. They also did so on May 19 and 20 against Somerset. All four waddle-off wins have come in Long Island s past eight home games, and three of them have seen Alfonzo drive in the winning run. Tuesday was the Ducks second win when trailing after seven innings and eighth come-from-behind victory. Fonzie s on Fire: Giovanny Alfonzo picked up his second consecutive three-hit game on Tuesday with a trio of singles. The infielder had three hits in Sunday s extra-inning victory as well. He has now reached base safely in 14 of his past 15 games, earning at least one hit in 13 of them. During his past 15 games, Alfonzo has compiled a.382 batting average (21-for-55) with eight RBI, four runs and three walks. He has raised his on-base percentage from.167 to.341 in that span. A Clout from Krauss: Marc Krauss hit his third home run of the year on Tuesday with a game-tying solo blast to lead off the ninth inning. It was the first baseman s first home run since May 6 against Southern Maryland, ending a 21-game homerless drought. The former Major Leaguer has reached base safely in six straight games and in 16 of his past 17 games dating back to May 12 at New Britain. Bullpen Brilliance: Six Ducks relievers combined to pitch five innings of one-run ball on Tuesday. They allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out seven. Rob Rogers has now made nine straight scoreless appearances (8.2 innings). Jim Fuller has pitched five straight scoreless outings (5.1 innings). Amalio Diaz has not allowed an earned run in his past five appearances (5.0 innings). TONIGHT S PITCHING MATCHUP LI: LHP EURY DE LA ROSA (1-0, 2.16 ERA) vs. SL: RHP MICHAEL NIX (2-5, 4.29 ERA) UPCOMING PITCHING PROBABLES Thursday, June 1 6:35 p.m. vs. Sugar Land RHP Dennis O Grady (1-2, 3.54) vs. RHP Mitch Talbot (0-0, 12.46) Friday, June 2 5:12 p.m. at Bridgeport RHP Tim Melville (2-3, 3.60) vs. TBA Friday, June 2 7:45 p.m. at Bridgeport LHP Rafael Perez (2-1, 3.73) vs. TBA YESTERDAY S RESULT The Long Island Ducks defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters 3-2 in 11 innings on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark. Sugar Land took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a two-out RBI single to center field by Hector Olivera off Duck starter Matt Larkins. It stayed that way until the top of the seventh when Joe Benson singled and later scored on a two-out fly ball to center off the bat of Andy Wilkins that was lost in the sky. Long Island closed to within one in the eighth on an RBI single to right by Giovanny Alfonzo. Marc Krauss then tied the game at two in the ninth with a leadoff solo home run to left-center field. It remained 2-2 until the bottom of the 11th when Krauss walked to begin the inning. He then went from first to third on a two-out throwing error by catcher Albert Cordero and scored the winning run on Alfonzo s RBI infield single to third base. Neither starter factored into the decision. Jake Hale pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Larkins gave up just one run on four hits and four walks over six innings while striking out six. Tyler Levine (2-0) picked up the win after tossing a scoreless 11th inning, and Sean Gleason (1-2) suffered the loss, surrendering the winning run (unearned) on two hits and a walk in one and two-thirds innings DUCKS VS.
