Send me your stories, recaps, and pictures every week by Saturday to be included in the newsletter. It can be difficult for me often time to recap games that I didn t watch or play in. Big shout out to Justin Littell from Jagernaughts. He s been sending some awesome write ups every week. Halloween Contest: Halloween is right around the corner and I thought what better way to celebrate than with some costumes and kickball. So Wednesday, the 28 th, everyone should come dressed up ready to play kickball. There will be a 1st and 2nd place prize (pitchers at Sandbar afterwards) to the teams that have the best costumes. So start talking with your teammates because I want to see some great costumes out there. Now I am aware that some of you may not want to get dressed up because you might be playing a competitive game that night. So as long as we don t have any rain delays between now and then we will have scrimmages that night. We will just push the original games for the 28th to November 4th since that week is open. And then finish out the season with the tournament on the 11th. - Britney End of Season Party: Mark your calendars for November 21st. That will be the date of the End of Season party. More details to follow. Even zombie Jack-O bunts.

3 New Customer Service Representative for VA Peninsula Peninsula Kickballers, Please join me in congratulating Brent Wentworth as he takes over WAKA customer service for the VA Peninsula Division. Brent has been around since early days of the division and has volunteered a lot of time and effort to the growth of kickball in Hampton Roads, especially on the Peninsula. Brent and I will be working together as he takes over your customer service needs. You may reach him at brent@kickball.com. Congrats, Brent! Kelly Frogosa WAKA Customer Service I m very excited to have this opportunity with WAKA to work for the VA Peninsula. As the new customer service rep, my goal is to continue to grow and make our division the very best it can be. This is your division, and as such, I m going to encourage you all to send me your feedback and ideas. What do you like about the division? What would you like to see? Let me know. 4 The Emperors Club 12, TailGators 1 WEEK 4 RECAP With the VIPs without the top two catchers in their depth chart, they had to turn to Marland Burke for the duties behind the plate. After a rocky start, the TailGators jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. It was not to last though, as the VIP defense got into a groove and the offense got on base and moved the ball around While the game wasn t really close, there were a number of outstanding plays made by both teams. In the 4th inning, pitcher George Sexual Eruption Kiriazidis gunned out MarkAvery Claridge at 2nd base. Gators OF Billy Allen made an excellent catch of a ball that was deflected off of a teammate and charger Joey Lawrence (Whoa) made some really good throws, including one that robbed Brent Wentworth (3rd person alert!) of a base-hit. Chubby Gangsters 3, Wilfred Brimley s Mustache Ride 2 Do you believe in miracles!?! The Gangsters came out in week 7 and stunned the 3 rd place Mustache Ride. The heroics came late in the game courtesy of a 3 run home run by Mike Nobile to take the lead. As he rounded the bases, the Ride had a few chances to get him, but some ill-advised throws were made and that allowed the game to slip away from the Ride. This is a big victory for the Chubby Gangsters because, of course, to date this has been their only victory. After the game, the team went out to Sandbar to celebrate their win. After the game, Charlie Nunley said, I felt like Big Ben throwing the Super Bowl winning TD and getting that elusive ring for the thumb! Jessica Martin added, We re going to DisneyWorld! Easy there, CGs, Let s save something for the tournament 5 O Clockers 17, Foul Balls 3 The 5 O Clockers definitely took the short-handed Foul Balls to the whipping post this week. Without several of their key players, the Balls were out manned. All accounts though said that this lopsided loss was one of their most enjoyable games ever. They played loose and without any pressure. Kicking away at will and flying around the field Sure the final score was lopsided, but if they had fun, than that s the point right?

5 The Emperors Club 3, Jagernaughts 1 The Jagernauts came into week 7 focused and determined to give the current division leaders, the Emperors Club, a run for their money. After a few rough weeks, the Jagers adjusted their fielding strategy, formulated a new kicking lineup, drew some X's and O's in the locker room, and chugged a few beers before game time. All of this gave the Jagers high hopes to pull out an upset. They jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first off of a leadoff base kick by John Meier and excellent situational kicking, and held the leaders to 0 runs for the first 3 innings. Special credit going to Beth Seavers for making an acrobatic juggling catch to end the 2nd. In the fourth, pitcher Eddie Seavers gambled on walking the bases loaded with one out, but this strategy paid off when the base runner on third was tagged out at home for the second out and Justin A. caught a deep fly ball to end the inning (hmm I know there's a balls on chest joke in here somewhere...) And because the Jagers were in an excellent mood (maybe from the game, probably from the booze) and just because it's plain funny, here are some Jagernaut quotes overheard from that night " I don't like nuts" Justin A. [Justin L's (captain's) note: Yeah man, let's hope so since you're dating Liz] Overall, even though the Jagers didn't get the W and the Emperors Club squeaked out the victory, they played the best they've played all season, holding the leaders scoreless throughout the first half of the game. They'll take the 1/2 win and use their new-found strategy to try to make a late season run. MVP goes to Beth Seavers for the acrobatic ball juggling catch in the second to end the inning and Liz Sims for having a birthday which gave people a reason to bring brownies. The Jagernauts play the Mustache Riders in a battle of absurd team names for the coveted Wilford Brimley Mustache Trophy next week. It should be a real barn burner! "I love the 'Backstreet Boys'" Big Jon D. [Justin L's (captain's) note: WTF Jon?.. yeah, and 'real' men wear pink....loser] "Beth-you got MVP with that killer catch fingering the ball-good technique!" Kate L. [Justin L's (captain's) note: I did not make that up] "Did I just say penis? Hmm that's weird because I have been thinking about them all day" Will J. [Justin L's (captain's) note: OK maybe I made that one up]

6 Week 8 Preview Wednesday, October 14 th, :30 PM The Emperors Club (9-0) vs. Foul Balls (3-3-2) Refs: 5OC The VIPs magic number is 1 to clinch the division. With a win or a 5 O Clockers loss, they will clinch the regular season title. If they want to do it this week though, they ll have to earn it against Foul Balls, whom up until this season have owned The Emperors Club. Fall 2009 has been different though. The VIPs beat FB 2-0 in week 3 and then beat them 1-0 in the quarter finals of The Peninsula Open. Will they continue their winning ways against the Foulies? Or will Foul Balls start building some momentum down the stretch after suffering their worst loss ever against the Clockers? Wilfred Brimley s Mustache Ride (4-3-2) vs. Jagernaughts (1-7) Refs: GATORS The Mustache Ride were stunned last week against the Chubby Gangsters. The Jagernaughts played a very tight game against 1 st place The Emperors Club, holding a 1-0 lead for most of the game before allowing 3 runs in the 4 th. This will be an interesting game. Will the Mustache Ride respond by laying the smackdown on the Jagers or will they continue playing poorly and drop their second straight game to a bottom tiered team? I m betting that this game will be a close one, as the Jagers were definitely impressive last week against the VIPs. 7:30 PM Chubby Gangsters (1-8) vs. Foul Balls (3-3-2) Refs: JAGER The Chubbies are riding high after getting their first win of season, captain Buster Patterson gave this inspirational speech in the Gangsters locker room. 5 O Clockers (6-2-1) vs. TailGators (3-4-1) Refs: VIPs The 5 O Clockers are hoping to keep their division title hopes alive by beating the Gators tonight. The Gators will be looking to move up in the standings and could possibly finish as high as 3 rd place if the cards fall right. They re going to need to play a little tighter this week than they did last week in order to beat the Clockers, who scored the most runs last week in franchise history. These two teams played each other nearly a month ago and the Clockers came away with a 7-5 victory in a high scoring game.

7 We re getting down to the wire with 3 weeks left in the season and 3-4 games left per team. The Emperors Club is in the drivers seat for the division title, but behind them it s a dog fight for 2 through 5. Every game from here on out will be important in determining what matchups we see in the tournament. Week 8 Weather Tonight, it s going to feel like fall with temperatures in the 50s and a chance of some showers. Bring some cold weather clothing just to be safe! See you guys at the field tonight!!!
