It s getting colder than a witch s tit out on the fields at night so don t forget to bundle up a little more! There have been so many ridiculous comments in the G-Spot each week that I m having a hard time fitting it all on one page...i love it! I m trying to include them all in each week but if you don t see yours, don t worry I ll fit it in next week. My box is full!! (That s what she said.) 2 Pg. 2 Commish Corner Ballers, This week will mark the halfway point in the season and we have some interesting games scheduled. We have still have four undefeated teams and two teams that remain winless. Two of the undefeated teams meet this week as TDP and Toot It & Boot It play on Field 8pm. This a four season long rivalry that has a lot of good friends mixed among both teams. The games have always been close and the last three meetings have been decided by one run. 4 Pg. 4 Head Rules Guy WAKA TX HEAD REF BERT PARATORE DISSECTS THE RULES HERE EACH WEEK The past weekend I had to opportunity to referee in the Founders Cup. This is WAKA s yearly championship tournament in Las Vegas. It was a good opportunity to meet players and refs from other parts of the country as well as WAKA staff. And I learned about some commonly misinterpreted rules that we are going to start calling correctly. Referees and Captains need to read the items below as they will start to be enforced during next week s games. Refs need to start calling Encroachment, fair/foul balls, runners off base and outs at first base per WAKA s intent of the rules. Captains (and all players) need to know how and why these rules are changing as they can have a direct impact on the game and to head off any complaints about a call regarding these rules. Position Warning (a.k.a. Encroachment) Although the rule (8.02) does state the penalty is when the ball is kicked, it was made clear that WAKA s intent is the call is made when the ball reaches the kicker, whether the pitch is a ball/strike or kicked foul/fair. From here on teams can violate this rule even if the ball is not kicked, so be careful. Fair and Foul Balls Rule 1.04 is by WAKA s admission unclear and needs updated. But their intent was not to let players stand in foul territory and pick up a ball that was still fair (before first and third bases) in order to make it foul. From here on, the only way a kicked ball (not kicked with the knee) can be foul is if it travels into foul territory on its own prior to first or third base or lands in foul when it s a fly ball. Runners off the base Rules and 14.02g both state the runner is out if they are off the base when the ball is kicked. Again, WAKA admitted that this rule is not clearly written per their intent. The intent is that a runner is out if they leave the base early whether the ball is kicked or not. This means once the ball is pitched, if the player leaves the base they are out, even if they get back before it is kicked or not kicked. Move towards second base There were some questions about what this is. Rule states after running through first base the runner must be actively attempting to advance to second base in order to be tagged out. This means a simple turn to the left is not a move to second base. And the runner being in foul or fair territory has no bearing either. Sometimes the move towards second is obvious, sometimes not it is a judgment call on the ref's part. 6 Pg. 6 Team wrap ups We had the doubleheader this week and we were missing a few of our people. Lost the first game to Recess Rejects 5-0. We knew we were in trouble when they were stretching and warming up as we were cracking open our 3rd beers. Lost our second game too. Son of a Pitch beat us 7-5. Shout out to Michelle for making some awesome catches out in right field. Also, big shout out to Amy... we can't all handle 2 Four Lokos and still be coherent enough to try to start a dance party on the field. We really don't like losing. Good thing Poag's had all that PBR to drown our sorrows Suck My Kick did not have a particularly good game this week against the undefeated, defending two-time champion WAKA Me Off. After handing them their first loss since coming to the West Side aka Fun Side last season, SMK fell to the champs Last season, Suck My Kick was able to shock the kickball world with a stunning upset over WAKA ME OFF, giving us only our 2nd loss in 6 seasons, and our very 1st in TX Westside. This time, that would not be the case. WAKA ME OFF put an absolute beatdown on SMK, winning Through 3 games, WAKA has just been blowing out their opponents. Can anyone take us down? Although we lost 6-1 we played a lot better than the first two weeks. Only gave up 2 runs after the first inning and it probably should have been 0. We finally look coordinated on defense, so now we just need to work on scoring runs and we may yet celebrate our first win. Note to G-spot writers, the pink team may not fucking suck anymore. The whole team contributed for our first win of the fall, way to go SOAP!! Down n Dirty was very successful in kicking the ball and being aggresive on base running. Also, we had a great defensive game. The game was closer that the score shows. Toot It & Boot It had some tense moments but we got through it with a victory. We are now hitting the most difficult part of our schedule and I am excited to see how we adapt. GO RANGERS! Balls & Dolls definitely played a lot better, but we have to work on our kicking. Once we figure out the whole kicking thing, its on like Donkey Kong. Another team falls at the hands of Slammin CJ and the Recess Rejects. Record goes to 3-0 as we wiped the floor with another shutout! The tripod stood firm with David and Matt scoring runs and CJ firing the balls across home. Newcomers, Kelly M, Ryan, and Sam padded the lead in the second each tagging home for a score, while the defense of RR s was out of this world this week. 99 Problems definitely gets credit for holding RR at 5 after the 2 nd inning but unfortunately for them defense wasn t enough. Who s next? Last night we had another fine showing by TDP, who pounded the Pink Pitches and kept them at only 1 run. We heard rumblings that the Pink Pitches thought they had a chance, so we had to knock some sense into them. Hope you're head is okay, Andi.
