2 KICKBALL THROUGH THE AGES Kickball has had a profound effect on the world we live in. Many things taken for granted in today s society were actually handed down from kickballers of the past Before the invention of the wheel came the invention of kickball! Unfortunately, for our Neanderthal brethren they had to learn the hard way with large round rocks to kick. There weren t that many homeruns but the skill of bunting was born! A little history FYI for ya...do you know the reason kickballs are red? Cavemen painted those same rocks with the blood of their enemies so they could always be kicking the crap out of the competition, even after death. The sport of kickball faded with the onset of the Roman Empire who persecuted true ballers by nailing them not to crosses, but triangles shaped much like a set of beer pong cups, hence, the familiar shape we know today. Kickball saw a rebirth during the renaissance with Leonardo DaVinci pioneering the study and science of kickball. The famous inventor DaVinci also created the kickball logo now placed on all our balls, an early rendering is pictured top right. Even our great American Presidents have been kickballers! Abraham Lincoln was known to relax from the pressure and struggles of the Civil War by playing kickball on the White House Lawn. So, I hope all our players take great pride in the tradition they carry on to this day and will play this game with respect for the trailblazers who brought us here! 4 WEEK ONE GAME RECAPS Klutho Kickers 4 vs. Everyone Get s Lei d 0 KK - With a newly rebuilt team, the Klutho Kickers jumped up early with a four nothing lead on "apparently nobody got lei'ed." The Kickers defense held "lei'ed" scoreless with the help of great pitching by Scott "I pitch better with a broken arm" Biernacki and great outfield play by first time baller Tara "bet you wish your first and last names rhymed" Marra. The Kickers tacked on another run to round out a five zip opening day"lei'ed" spanking. EGL - Lei'd's defense got off to a rocky start in the first and second inning, but we were able to simmer down and play an awesome second half. "Hats" off to 2nd base and Left field on some great catches. When it came to offense, let's just say we make a one-legged blind guy look good. With an opportunity to bring some runners in, Klutho's infielders were able to keep our runners from the promise land. Off Constantly More vs. Ballswell Less Ballswell had their hands full this week with Off Constantly in a game that could only be described as a lot of fun. We tip our hats to a great competitor and a force to be reckoned with this season. The game ball has got to be given to the MVP Casey Simpson. Casey was the only member of Ballswell to play in the summer league and it showed. Not only did she catch everything that Off Constantly could kick at her, this girl came with her game face on and slid into home scoring the only run for Ballswell, preventing the shutout. But you can t take credit away from the rest of the team. Rebecca Crosby and Marsha Faulkner brought back the 80 s with there vibrant shoelaces and sexy legwarmers while the old faithful fans of Ballswell cheered us on. Drunk & Looking to Score 5 vs. The Top Guns 4 Drunk and Looking to Score is back for another season. Known for our drinkin and smokin, we thought this year we'd add in some kicking and scoring. Grabbing a quick three runs in the first inning was due to our veterans with help from some fresh legs. In the battle of the plaid, Oz in his skirt and Ethan in, well we've seen Ethan in plaid everything, the DALTS definitely took down the veteran high flying Top Guns. TG felt the need, the need for speed when they started to make a comeback in the 5th, but it wasn't enough against the well seasoned, slightly intoxicated, and of course always smokin DALTS. Surrender the Booty 5 vs. Kicking Balls and Taking Names 4 After a tough start for the booty krew, light blue stopped taking names, and we started kicking some balls. Late inning heroics by some newer faces led to only one outcome: BACK IN BLACK, YE SCALLEYWAGS! Jorts 4 vs. Boozies & Fluzies 3 Jorts won a close 4-3 game against the Boozies and Fluzies. The "Fastest Team in Denim" got this done behind some heads-up base running and stellar defense, especially by Jorts second baseman Madeline Ornato. Boozies and Fluzies were neither as drunk nor as easy as their name would imply. They are a inexperienced team with lots of talent... look for them to come on strong by the end of the season. HOT PANTS/HOT WIN AWARD Cobra Kai A Lot vs. Thundercankles A Little The Thundercankles met the defending champs of Cobra Kai and were outmatched from the beginning. Cobra Kai scored 7 runs in the top of the 1st inning to put the game away. The only thing left to do was wait for the game to end. Up next, the newbies of beer view mirrors. Good luck guys!
