3 League Cups In putting together the inaugural Tuesday night Zia League season Jen Cody was tasked with making it a fun, unique and memorable time for WAKA members. Once a bar was settled on it was soon decided that also having a league beer would really set a fun tone and with Santa Fe Brewing Company s Zia logo it was realized what a great fit it would be. SFBC has been amazingly supportive of WAKA, and all its leagues, and they continuously go above and beyond to show their support of our fun group of kickballers. Through Jen s passion for WAKA and Santa Fe Brewing Company s continuous support, we are pleased to announce that the entire WAKA leagues will now have official WAKA cups listing the leagues and sponsored and donated by Santa Fe Brewing Company! In an effort to be green and minimize the waste of all the solo cups we bring each week we encourage you to use your cups for your games and also remember all the tasty beers that Santa Fe Brewing Company has to offer. For all the Tuesday night Zia league players, if you bring in your cups to Spectators after each week s games you can get a discounted SFBC pitcher. Distribution: Tuesday: Find Jen Cody. They will be distributed in between the two games to the team captains. Thursday: Find Jen Cody; She will be in her red WAKA CSR Polo. Cups will be distributed to team captains. Sunday: Find Jeremy. A veteran Das Boot team overcame a two run deficit to defeat a young and skilled KICK, 5-4 in a 5 inning battle. The first inning passed uneventfully as both teams had a couple of base runners, but were unable to produce any runs. In the top of the 2nd, Das Boot struck first with 2 runs. KICK followed with 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd due to a Das Boot error at the plate. In the 3rd, KICK added to their total, taking a 4-2 lead into the top of the 4th. At that point, Das Boot came alive. Two bunts by the lead-off kickers put players at the corners. Next up, the Aussie brought the boot launching a ball into another field scoring 2 runs on a controversial call. A clear home run was called back as a ground-rule double because of interference from a player in the other field (correct call), costing Das Boot one run. Note: do not a touch a ball coming into your field from another game! Luckily for Das Boot they would score another run from two well-placed kicks to mid-field bringing the total to 5-4 in favor of Das Boot. KICK had an opportunity to win it in the 5th. KICK was able to put runners on 1st and 2nd, but a double play fly ball at 2nd base ended KICK s chances at a comeback. After a tough battle, Das Boot remained undefeated. WAKA & BBBS KICK BALL GAME Sunday August 5th, a.m. and 1 p.m.* WAKA and BBBS are teaming up for a kickball game/clinic for the Bigs and their Littles as well as Littles waiting to be matched. Bring your family out for a good game of kickball and help these folks see what Kickball is all about! Food and refreshments will be provided (no alcohol during the event). We are going to aim for the Highland fields* (Sunday League s fields) as the event location. As usual, details will be forthcoming as they are finalized. Game of the Week: Taco Kick vs. Uncle Howie s Fun House Taco Kick is riding a three game winning streak as they face off against Uncle Howie s Fun House. It should be an even match between the two teams. Both these teams know how to have fun and enjoy playing kickball. Doug and the Fun House will be ready to play with their red solo cups in hand. The improved play from Matt at 3rd should give Taco Kick the edge. In dramatic fashion, El Skippo Grande will kick the game winning home run as Taco Kick takes down Uncle Howie s Fun House. Founders Cup 2012 The 2012 Founders Cup World Kickball Championship will be held in October 5-7, 2012 in Las Vegas! There will be over $20,000 in prizes throughout the weekend! Be sure to mark your calendars and save that weekend! It s time to embrace those dreams of being a World Kickball Champion! Champion and Runner-Up of Spring Season s League Tournament will be eligible to receive an invitation to the Founders Cup World Kickball Championship in Las Vegas. The year of eligibility is determined by the completion date of the League Tournament, according to the World Championship Guidelines. Eligible teams are not guaranteed to receive invitations.
