Beeks Brilliance With an only-increasing, what-will-he-do-next feel to his starts, Jalen Beeks makes his sixth start of the season this morning. The 24-year old left-hander from Arkansas is tied for first in all of Minor League Baseball in strikeouts (46). His K/9 IP rate of leads all qualifying minor league starters, as does his 42.6% strikeout rate (strikeouts out of batters faced). He had been on Boston s disabled list since April 27 with a left hamstring strain suffered when he safely ran out a double on April 26 at Toronto in his first and only at-bat of that game before being removed. He is hitting.340 (17-for-50) with a.400 on-base percentage, 6 2B, 1 HR, and 7 RBI in 16 games with the Red Sox this season (10 at SS, 5 at 2B, and 1 in RF). Per MLB rules, a player on the restricted list can begin a rehab assignment when he has 6 games or less remaining on his suspension. Wright has missed the last 9 Red Sox games since April 28. Before Tuesday s steady 6-inning relief performance, Steven made two starts for the PawSox (without receiving a decision) on his original injury rehab assignment that began on April 20.
