Reynolds Stadium has been home to Oklahoma State baseball since 1981, and in those 31 seasons the Cowboys have been nearly unbeatable on their home field. OSU is (.821) all-time at Reynolds Stadium and has lost more than two consecutive games on their home turf only twice (six in a row in May 2007; three straight in 2010). The Cowboys are 21-3 at home in Club OSU head coach Frank Anderson is on the verge of becoming the third coach in Cowboy history to reach 300 wins. Gary Ward (953 wins) and Toby Greene (318) are the only two previous OSU coaches to reach that mark. Anderson is in his eighth season at OSU and owns a career record of , which includes a Big 12 mark. He ranks third on OSU s all-time coaching wins list. New Faces OSU s 33-man 2011 roster includes 18 newcomers 12 junior college transfers, five high school players and one Division I transfer. Five of the Cowboy newcomers were selected in last June s Major League Baseball Draft, highlighted by freshman right-handed pitcher Jason Hursh, who was a sixth-round pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Also among OSU s freshman class is Nate Sorenson, a scholarship quarterback for the Cowboy football team who was a 40th-round pick of Pittsburgh following his prep career. The group of JUCO newcomers includes MLB draftees Chris Marlowe and Blake Barnes, who have boosted OSU s bullpen, and infielder Zach Johnson, who has nailed down the Cowboys starting spot at first base. No Thanks A pair of Cowboys from last season s club was selected in the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft but spurned pro ball to return to Stillwater. Davis Duren was a 13th-round pick of the Houston Astros, while Mike Strong was selected in the 22nd round by the Oakland A s. Strong was also drafted in 2009 after two JUCO seasons. Twelve players on the OSU roster have been Major League Baseball Draft picks. That marks the second-highest total in the Big 12, trailing only Texas 16. His eight triples leads the NCAA and is one shy of OSU s single-season record. Splitting time between DH and catcher, Phillips hit safely in OSU s first 13 games and has hits in 34 of the Cowboys 37 games this season. He leads the club with 18 multi-hit games, including a trio of four-hit efforts. Phillips reached base safely in the first 30 games this season, extending a streak dating back to last season to 35 games before it was snapped against Missouri on April 9. Along with a.308 batting average that ranks second in the league, the Cowboys lead the conference with 84 doubles and 20 triples and hold down the second spot in hits (398) and slugging percentage (.464). The 2010 club ranked second in the league with a.307 batting average and finished third in doubles (128) and sacrifice flies (31). Five of the Cowboy regulars in the starting lineup hit.316 or better. In 2009, the Cowboys ranked among the Big 12 s best in batting average (third at.300), triples (second with 21), home runs (third with 81) and slugging percentage (second at.503). OSU led the Big 12 in three offensive categories in 2008 batting average (.326), slugging percentage (.531) and home runs (89). The Cowboys finished second in the league in runs, hits, triples and RBIs. In 06, OSU led the Big 12 in homers, triples and slugging percentage, and in 2007 the Cowboys led the Big 12 in six offensive categories and ranked second in two more. Strong Armed OSU s pitching staff has allowed just 107 earned runs in innings, which translates to a 2.85 team ERA, and the Cowboys are second in the league with six shutouts. Ten different Cowboy hurlers have notched wins, with eight of those collecting at least two victories. Want more? OSU s opponents are hitting just.251, and of the 13 Cowboys with at least three appearances, 11 of them have an ERA of 3.49 or less. And while we re at it, go ahead and note that OSU s staff has issued just 93 walks, the second fewest in the Big 12. Among the leaders on the pitching staff this season are: Brad Propst - A converted infielder, Propst entered this season with three wins and three saves in 30 career appearances. The senior right-hander has started nine games in 2011 and is 6-2 with a 2.01 ERA. Andrew Heaney - A year ago, this lefty became the first freshman to lead OSU in wins since 2001 as he was 5-4 with a save in 16 outings (10 starts). As a sophomore, he s been even better, with five wins, a 3.49 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 49.0 innings. Mike Strong - A two-time MLB Draft pick, Strong is 3-0 with a 3.27 ERA in nine games this season and has 44 Ks in 41.1 IP. Chris Marlowe - Marlowe leads the Cowboys with 16 appearances, and this JUCO transfer has been nearly unhittable at times. He has a team-high 57 strikeouts in only 34.1 innings and earned his first-career win by striking out 10 in 4.2 innings of relief work vs. New Mexico, a performance that earned him Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week honors. Blake Barnes - A junior right-hander Barnes has three wins, all in relief, and a 2.79 ERA in 16 appearances. He has 19 Ks in 29.0 innings of work. Gabe Weidenaar - A junior who spends most of his time in center field, Weidenaar has also been a star on the mound as he s recorded two saves and has allowed just one earned run in six appearances. He has 12 strikeouts in 14.1 innings pitched. Randy Returns Randy McCurry suffered a season-ending elbow injury while throwing his warm-up pitches in OSU s 2010 season opener vs. USC. The injury caused McCurry to redshirt after undergoing Tommy John surgery last March. A healthy McCurry has returned to the hill this spring, where he is 2-1 with a 1.65 ERA in 11 appearances, and he has also seen playing time in the infield, outfield and DH. As a freshman in 2009, McCurry tied OSU s single-season record with 10 saves. In a team-high 28 appearances as a freshman, he was also 4-1 with a team-best 2.16 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 41.2 innings of work. The Thief Can Hit Senior second baseman Davis Duren led the Big 12 with 29 stolen bases as a junior in That total ranked 40th nationally and was the most by a Cowboy since Against Oklahoma Christian, Duren swiped four bags, the most by a Cowboy since 2004 and one shy of OSU s single-game record. Duren was 29-of-34 on stolen base attempts last season and is 4-of-7 this season to bring his career totals to 47-of-56. Through 15 league games in 2011, Duren leads the Cowboys with a.375 batting average to go along with 11 RBIs. He was named Big 12 Player of the Week on April 4 after hitting.615 (8-for-13) with two home runs and seven RBIs in the Nebraska series. 3

4 OSU Baseball Tradition By The Numbers 100 Career home runs hit by Cowboy Pete Incaviglia, an NCAA record 61 OSU s record for wins in a season, set in 1984 & Consecutive game hitting streak for Robin Ventura in 1987, an NCAA record 48 & 143 Number of home runs & RBIs for Pete Incaviglia during the 1985 season, both NCAA r e c o r d s 37 NCAA Tournament berths for OSU baseball 31 Cowboys named first-team All-American 29 Conference championships for the Cowboys (23 Big Eight, 5 Missouri Valley, 1 Big 12) 25 Number of Cowboys to earn All-Big 12 First Te a m h o n o r s 23 Big Eight Conference championships, a record 19 College World Series appearances by the Cowboys, which ranks fifth all time 17 Cowboys drafted in the first round of the Major League Baseball Draft 16 OSU won an NCAA record 16-straight Big Eight Conference championships from Top 10 finishes in Baseball America final season polls (since 1981) 11 NCAA team and individual records held by OSU 10 OSU has had 10 players named to a USA Baseball National Team roster 7 50 win seasons by the Cowboys 6 Berths in the College World Series championship g a m e 3 Cowboys in the National College Baseball Hall of Fame Robin Ventura, Pete Incaviglia & Gary Ward 2 NCAA Super Regional appearances by the Cowboys 1999 & National championship for OSU, which came in Golden Spikes Award winner Robin Ventura in 1988 Flashing The Leather Over the last several seasons, OSU s defense has turned in some of the top fielding performances in program history. OSU has recorded a fielding percentage over.970 just six times in its history, and five of those have come in the last six seasons. The Cowboys made history in 2010 when they set a school record with a.978 fielding percentage, a mark that ranked fifth nationally. Last year s performance marked the thirdstraight year that OSU had tied or set the school record for fielding percentage after the Cowboys had a.974 fielding percentage in 2008 and a.976 fielding percentage in Both those fielding percentages led the Big 12. In 2011, the Cowboys have made 37 errors and sport a.974 fielding percentage. Senior Sensation Brad Propst is having a memorable final season in an OSU uniform. The senior right-hander has established himself as the ace of the Cowboys staff with a 6-2 record and a 2.01 ERA in nine starts. Propst has pitched at least six innings in seven of his nine starts, and he ranks fifth in the Big 12 with 62.2 innings pitched. On March 28, Propst was named Big 12 Pitcher of Week after tossing a complete game against No. 4 Texas in which he allowed just one run on seven hits and struck out six. Propst is 4-1 with two complete games and a 2.13 ERA in his five Big 12 starts, and he has recorded 24 strikeouts and just four walks. Season Superlatives OSU has emerged as one of the nation s top teams in 2011, and the Cowboys continue to add to their resumé. The Cowboys are 4-3 against Top 10 teams this season, winning two of their three games in series against No. 4 Texas and No. 8 Oklahoma. OSU is tied with Texas for the best overall record in the Big 12 Conference with a 28-9 mark, leaving the Cowboys just one victory shy of last season s win total. With 10 wins in Big 12 play, the Pokes have already surpassed their league win totals in each of the past two seasons. After dropping their first Big 12 series of the year at Kansas, OSU has won four-straight series, the first time that has happened since the 2008 Cowboys won six consecutive league series. Smooth Transitions Several newcomers have had immediate impacts for the Cowboys in JUCO transfers Gabe Weidenaar and Zach Johnson have each earned starting spots and rank among OSU s top performers thus far. A native of Montana, Weidenaar is third on the Cowboys with a.343 batting average. In the season opening series vs. Bryant, the switch hitter was 7-for-10 at the plate. He has also picked up a pair of saves on the mound. Not to be outdone is Johnson, who has started 36 games at first base for OSU. He has hit safely in 32 of his 36 outings and leads the club in HRs (5) and RBIs (36) while ranking second with a.360 batting average. A pair of right-handed pitchers from the JUCO ranks Blake Barnes and Chris Marlowe have combined for six wins, three saves and 76 strikeouts in 63.1 innings. Blizzards For Everybody After winning the 2011 Dairy Queen Classic earlier this month in Tucson, Ariz., OSU had six players named to the All-Tournament Team: 1B Zach Johnson, SS Hunter Bailey, OF Gabe Weidenaar and Luis Uribe, DH Dane Phillips and P Andrew Heaney. Weidenaar was named the tourney s Most Outstanding Player after leading the Cowboys with nine hits in the tourney, including a 4-for-6 effort in a win over Minnesota that clinched the championship for OSU. His tourney performance included a pair of doubles and four RBIs. Uribe earned the Silver Stick Award as the top hitter in the tournament with a 7-for-10 effort which included three doubles, a triple and three RBIs. Weidenaar was also named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for games played Feb. 28-March 6. It s Been Awhile Last month, OSU became the first team to win a Big 12 series against Texas since 2009, snapping the Longhorns streak of 11-straight conference series wins. The Cowboys followed that performance by winning a series against Nebraska in Lincoln for the first time since Based in large part on those performances, OSU entered the national rankings on April 4 for the first time since the end of 2009 season, debuting at No. 23 in the Baseball America rankings. This week, the Cowboys are ranked as high as 15th by Collegiate Baseball. 4
