Struck out a season-high 9 batters on April 7 at Pawtucket, suffering the loss by allowing 4 runs off 4 hits with a walk over 5.0 innings. Earned first win of the season on June 3 at Indianapolis, allowing 1 run off 6 hits over 6.0 innings with a walk and 5 strikeouts. ML SERVICE: 101 days SIGNED THROUGH: 2009 CAREER HIGHLIGHTS Buckner enters the 2009 season as the D-backs eighth-best prospect in the organization according to Baseball America has struck out 8.5 batters per 9-innings over 116 games (100 starts) during his five-year minor league career in 2006, he was named to the California League midseason All-Star team, going 7-1 with a 3.90 ERA over 16 starts for High Desert (A) Recalled for the first time on June 13, making his D-backs debut that night against Kansas City and tossed a scoreless inning of relief to earn his first win of the season. Made only 2 appearances for the D-backs before being optioned to Tucson on June 15, going 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA (18 ER in 30.0 IP) over 5 starts from June 19-July 10 for the Sidewinders. Strung together back-to-back scoreless starts, going 8.0 scoreless innings on June 30 vs. Fresno and 7.0 scoreless innings on July 5 at Salt Lake City, allowing 4 hits in each start. ML SERVICE: 7 years, 75 days SIGNED THROUGH: 2010 CAREER HIGHLIGHTS After missing most of the 2008 season with hamstring injuries, Byrnes will enter his fourth season with the D-backs he ranks second in D-backs history with 79 stolen bases entering the 2009 season in 2007, he set career-highs in all but two offensive categories, ranking fourth in the National League with 50 stolen bases and was one of only 19 players in Major League history to put together a 20 home run, 50 stolen base season he was also ranked as one of the top three defensive leftfielders in the Majors by John Dewan s The Fielding Bible in 2006, he became the first D-back to record a 25 home run, 25 stolen base season Played in only 52 games while nursing troublesome hamstring injuries in both legs throughout the season. Placed on the disabled list on May 27 with a right hamstring strain...missed 25 games on the DL until he was reinstated on June 23 and started in leftfield in the D-backs 2-1 win at Boston that night. Started 5 of the team s next 6 games until suffering a left hamstring strain while attempting to steal third base on June 30 vs. Milwaukee...was placed on the 15-day disabled list on July 1 and later transferred to the 60-day DL on July 22, ending his season. Hit safely in 14 straight games from April 4-19, batting.362 (21-for-58) over that stretch...the 14-game hitting streak was the third-longest of his career.
