Calica, Andrew Saturday Recap: RubberDucks sweep doubleheader in Altoona (Akron 7-1, Altoona -7): RubberDucks pitcher Chu, Li-Jen Clement, Ernie Zach Plesac pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings in a 7- Game 1 Garcia, Wilson win, and Akron had an eight-run sixth inning for a 1-7 win in Game 2, sweeping Saturday's doubleheader over the Altoona Ice, Logan Curve at Peoples Natural Gas Field. The RubberDucks took a Johnson, Daniel first-inning lead but broke open Game 1 with a five-run Krieger, Tyler fifth inning, with right fielder Connor Marabell's two-run double and first baseman Wilson Garcia's three-run double. In Game Longo, Mitch , Akron trailed, 6-2, entering the sixth inning, but third Marabell, Connor baseman Tyler Krieger and center fielder Ka'ai Tom each hit Monasterio, Andruw two-run homers, and left fielder Mitch Longo and right fielder Daniel Johnson each hit two-run singles to give Akron a 1-6 Pantoja, Alexis lead in a 14-batter inning. All nine spots in the Game 2 lineup scored a run for Akron. Alexis Pantoja became the first Tom, Ka'ai RubberDuck this season with a four-hit game, while Johnson, with a two-run home run and two-run single, became the first with a four-rbi showing. Unhittable Karinchakkkkkkkkkkk: With two strikeouts to save Saturday s Game 2 win, Akron right-hander James Karinchak has recorded all of his 11 outs this season while on the mound via strikeout in four appearances. He has allowed two baserunners via one walk and one catcher s interference. He has also thrown two wild pitches. He has struck out the last five batters to face him, but his longest stretch is six consecutive strikeouts between his first two outings after a walk to the first batter he saw this season on April 5. Homers in bunches: The RubberDucks hit their first four home runs of the season on April 5 in a 7-6 home loss to Altoona, then went homerless for seven straight games, before hitting three against the Curve in Game 2 of Saturday s doubleheader. Both Daniel Johnson and Tyler Krieger hit home runs in each of those games. Akron has three solo home runs and four two-run homers. Bats Warming Up to Double-A: After going hitless in their Double-A debuts on April 4, Akron s Andruw Monasterio and Wilson Garcia each assembled fivegame hitting streaks, tied for the longest by any RubberDuck this season. Prior to going hitless in Thursday s series opener in Altoona, Monasterio was 8-for-2 with a double in the last five games, while Garcia was 5-for-18 with two doubles, a home run and three RBIs. Ducks Relief Corps Strength: Before Altoona s sixth-inning run Thursday, the RubberDucks bullpen had not allowed a run for 11 consecutive innings, a stretch that included seven different pitches over eight appearances. Since left-hander Ben Krauth allowed an eighth-inning, two-run home run to Trenton s Chris Gittens on Monday, RubberDucks relievers have combined for 17 innings, allowing five hits, three runs one earned and six walks and 25 strikeouts. That stretch includes the Akron bullpen retiring all 17 batters it faced in Tuesday s 7-2 loss to Trenton. First Win Recorded: After losing its first six games for the first time in 31 seasons of the franchise in Northeast Ohio (Canton-Akron Indians , Akron Aeros , RubberDucks 214-present), the RubberDucks won on Monday night. It snapped an eight-game losing streak at Canal Park and was the first win at home since Sept. 6, 218 Game 2 of the Eastern League Division Series against Altoona.
