Where We Stand The RubberDucks are currently in 3 rd place in the EL West, four games behind the Altoona Curve. Season Series Today s game is the eighth of 18 scheduled meetings between the RubberDucks and Baysox. The RubberDucks are 3-4 in the season series so far. Akron won the final three games of a four-game series at Canal Park, 4/ Noting the Notables -The RubberDucks have gone to extra innings four times in the last eight games, and seven times in the first 26 games of the season. -After last night s 7-6 loss in 11 innings, the RubberDucks are now 2-5 in overtime games this season. -All three of RHP Jacob Lee s losses have come in extra-inning games. -2B Todd Hankins was 1-5, with an RBI double last night, and extended his hitting streak to a team-high nine games (13-47,.277). -LF Destin Hood made is Akron debut last night and went 3-5, with a pair of doubles and two RBI. -DH Bryson Myles stole his first two bases of the year last night. He has also thrown out 17 of 29 potential base stealers (59%), which is the most in the EL. -The RubberDucks pitching staff ranks second in the EL in ERA (2.97) and third in fewest runs allowed (96). Transaction Wire The Indians announced Wednesday that OF Destin Hood has been transferred from Columbus to Akron. Hood, 25, appeared in 17 games with the Clippers, hitting.189, with no homers and two RBI. A former second-round selection by the Nationals in 2008, Hood signed with the Indians as a free agent last December. In a corresponding move, INF Yonathan Mendoza has been transferred to Single-A Mahoning Valley. Mendoza was hitting.289, with one home run and five RBI in 13 games. Looking Ahead Following today s game against the Baysox, the RubberDucks will return home for a three-game weekend series against Binghamton, beginning on Friday night at 6:35. 3 RubberDucks Last Game Recap Baysox 7 RubberDucks 6 (11) Wednesday, 5/6/15 Summary Bowie center fielder Glynn Davis cracked a game-winning, solo home run to left field in the bottom of the 11 th inning Wednesday night, lifting the Baysox to a 7-6 victory over the Akron RubberDucks at Prince George s Stadium. Turning Point Davis, who entered the game hitting a robust.315, led off the bottom of the 11 th against Jacob Lee (1-3) and drilled a 1-0 pitch over the left field fence to win the game. It was his first homer of the season, and just his second at the AA level. Mound Presence Lee was tagged with his second straight extra-inning loss. He also gave up a game-winning sacrifice fly in a 5-4 loss in the 18th inning at Trenton last Friday. Bowie righthander Ken Kasparek (2-0) earned the win with four hitless innings of relief. He walked none and struck out two. RubberDucks starter Will Roberts allowed six runs in the first two innings of the game, but managed to regroup and last six innings before departing with a tie score. Duck Tales Veteran outfielder Destin Hood made his Akron debut after being transferred from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday. He collected hits in his first three at-bats, and finished 3-5, on the night. He doubled and scored in the second inning, and then drove in two runs with another double in the third. The RubberDucks (12-14) tied the game in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Naquin and an RBI double by Todd Hankins. The double extended Hankins s hitting streak to nine games. Notes The RubberDucks rallied from early deficits of 3-0, and 6-2 against Bowie starter Tim Berry. Yandy Diaz and Bryson Myles had RBI s in the second inning to get Akron on the board The RubberDucks are 2-5 in extra innings Bowie moved into a first-place tie with Altoona atop the EL West Orioles second baseman Ryan Flaherty belted a two-run homer off Roberts in the second inning. Flaherty is rehabbing a strained groin that landed him on the Orioles disabled list in April Time of game: 3:12 Attendance: 1,810. RubberDuckS 2015 Field Staff #17 David Wallace, Manager A former catcher in the Indians minor league system, Wallace was named Akron s 15 th manager on December 20, The 2015 season is Wallace s second with the RubberDucks and fifth overall as a minor league manager. A former star football and baseball player at Vanderbilt University, Wallace enjoyed a seven-year minor league career, mostly with the Indians organization. He spent parts of three seasons as a player in Akron, appearing in 122 games with 17 homers and 54 RBI. After concluding his playing career, he spent two seasons as a major league staff assistant with the Indians before embarking on his managerial career with Mahoning Valley in #45 Jeff Harris, Pitching Coach Now in his seventh season in the Indians organization, Harris returns for his second straight season as pitching coach for the RubberDucks in Harris joined the Indians organization in 2009, following a 14-year professional career that included 14 big league games with the Seattle Mariners. #6 Tony Mansolino, Hitting Coach The 2015 season will mark Mansolino s fifth season as a coach in the Indians minor league system, and his first at Akron. He served as the hitting coach at Class-A Carolina last season. After playing professionally for six seasons in the Pirates, Phillies and independent organizations, Mansolino began his coaching career in 2011, at Class-A Mahoning Valley. Like Wallace, Mansolino played college baseball at Vanderbilt, where he was teammates with current player development chief Carter Hawkins and former Akron and Cleveland pitcher Jensen Lewis. Mansolino s father, Doug, is the Field Coordinator for the Phillies. Jeremy Heller, Trainer The 2015 season mark s Heller s second in Akron, and his 11 th overall as a trainer in the Indians organization. He was named Athletic Trainer of the Year in the Carolina League in Jake Sankal, Strength and Conditioning Coach A native of nearby Mentor, Ohio, and a graduate of the College of Wooster, Sankal returns for his third season on the Akron staff, and his sixth overall in the Indians organization. We Are the RubberDucks On October 29, 2013, team-owner Ken Babby stood before a capacity audience at the Akron Civic Theater and announced that the team would be known henceforth as the Akron RubberDucks. In addition to being symbolic of the fun, family-friendly brand of entertainment offered by minor league baseball, the name also honors Akron s long history as the Rubber Capital of the World. Brandiose Marketing of San Diego, California designed the team logo, colors, and various marks and insignias. Please note that for print coverage, RubberDucks is spelled as one word with a capital D. In broadcast coverage, referring to the team as the Ducks is an acceptable variation of the team s nickname.
