Where We Stand The RubberDucks are currently in 4 th place in the EL West, 5 ½ games behind first-place Altoona, and 1 ½ behind second-place Bowie. Season Series Today s game is the 5 th of 21 scheduled meetings between the RubberDucks and SeaWolves. Akron is 2-2 in the season series so far. 3 RubberDucks Last Game Recap RubberDucks 5 SeaWolves 4 Friday, 5/29/15 Summary The RubberDucks scored five first-inning runs and held off the Erie SeaWolves for a 5-4 win on Friday night at Canal Park. Turning Point Todd Hankins homered (#3) in the bottom of the first, followed by a run-scoring single by Destin Hood, RBI double by Jordan Smith, and two-run single by Tony Wolters to give Akron a 5-0 lead after an inning. Mound Presence Mike Clevinger (3-2) allowed three runs on five hits over 6.2 innings pitched while walking one and striking out five. Two of his three runs allowed came on solo home runs. RHP Jacob Lee picked up his first hold of the season with a scoreless 1.1 IP, and RHP Enosil Tejeda got his second save despite allowing a ninth-inning run. Duck Tales Akron hitters had 10 hits on the night, including four extra-base hits. SS Erik Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with a double, 3B Yandy Diaz went 2-for-4, and C Tony Wolters went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in. Todd Hankins hit his third home run of the season, and his first at Canal Park, in the bottom of the first. Notes CF Tyler Naquin extended his hitting streak to six games with a seventh-inning double (10-for-24,.417) and his.313 average leads the team SS Erik Gonzalez also has a six-game streak (9-for-22,.409) and he leads the EL with 202 at-bats RHP Mike Clevinger won consecutive starts for the first time this season and reached 100 pitches for the first time. His two home runs allowed are a season high. RubberDuckS 2015 Field Staff #17 David Wallace, Manager A former catcher in the Indians minor league system, Wallace was named Akron s 15 th manager on December 20, The 2015 season is Wallace s second with the RubberDucks and fifth overall as a minor league manager. A former star football and baseball player at Vanderbilt University, Wallace enjoyed a seven-year minor league career, mostly with the Indians organization. He spent parts of three seasons as a player in Akron, appearing in 122 games with 17 homers and 54 RBI. After concluding his playing career, he spent two seasons as a major league staff assistant with the Indians before embarking on his managerial career with Mahoning Valley in #45 Jeff Harris, Pitching Coach Now in his seventh season in the Indians organization, Harris returns for his second straight season as pitching coach for the RubberDucks in Harris joined the Indians organization in 2009, following a 14-year professional career that included 14 big league games with the Seattle Mariners. #6 Tony Mansolino, Hitting Coach The 2015 season will mark Mansolino s fifth season as a coach in the Indians minor league system, and his first at Akron. He served as the hitting coach at Class-A Carolina last season. After playing professionally for six seasons in the Pirates, Phillies and independent organizations, Mansolino began his coaching career in 2011, at Class-A Mahoning Valley. Like Wallace, Mansolino played college baseball at Vanderbilt, where he was teammates with current player development chief Carter Hawkins and former Akron and Cleveland pitcher Jensen Lewis. Mansolino s father, Doug, is the Field Coordinator for the Phillies. Jeremy Heller, Trainer The 2015 season mark s Heller s second in Akron, and his 11 th overall as a trainer in the Indians organization. He was named Athletic Trainer of the Year in the Carolina League in Jake Sankal, Strength and Conditioning Coach A native of nearby Mentor, Ohio, and a graduate of the College of Wooster, Sankal returns for his third season on the Akron staff, and his sixth overall in the Indians organization. We Are the RubberDucks On October 29, 2013, team-owner Ken Babby stood before a capacity audience at the Akron Civic Theater and announced that the team would be known henceforth as the Akron RubberDucks. In addition to being symbolic of the fun, family-friendly brand of entertainment offered by minor league baseball, the name also honors Akron s long history as the Rubber Capital of the World. Brandiose Marketing of San Diego, California designed the team logo, colors, and various marks and insignias. Please note that for print coverage, RubberDucks is spelled as one word with a capital D. In broadcast coverage, referring to the team as the Ducks is an acceptable variation of the team s nickname.
