In 2016, Akron hosted the 2016 Eastern League All-Star Game and Home Run Derby for the first time, saw an increase of more than 10,000 in attendance, and the team won its fifth Eastern League championship. "It is truly a staff award," said Pfander. "We, as a staff, accomplished some amazing things in 2016 and this award would not be possible without the hard-working team we have in place in the Akron front office." Under Pfander's leadership, this season the RubberDucks were nominated by the Eastern League for the Minor League Baseball's top award, the John H. Johnson President's Award, which goes to the most "complete" baseball franchise that has demonstrated franchise stability while making significant contributions to its community, its league and to the baseball industry. RubberDucks owner Ken Babby, who made Pfander his first hire after he acquired the franchise in October 2012, said, "Jim's remarkable creativity and passion for Minor League Baseball, coupled with the love of his hometown of Akron, makes this recognition even more special. Pfander will be presented with the award at the Baseball Winter Meetings in National Harbor, Maryland, during the Opening Session on December Eastern League Umpires No. Name Resides Yr. 4 Dave Attridge Oshawa, ONT 6 th 64 Erich Bacchus* Germantown, MD 6 th 33 Ryan Benson* Gaylordsville, CT 7 th 98 Derek Gonzales Orem, UT 6 th 76 Rich Grassa* Lindenhurst, NY 5 th 20 Aaron Higgins Elk Grove, CA 4th 17 Justin Houser Mattawan, MI 5 th 5 Ben Levin Cincinnati, OH 6 th 59 John Mang* Poland, OH 5 th 7 Christopher Marco Waterdown, ONT 4 th 16 Takahito Matsuda Seiyo, JP 6 th 9 Jacob Metz Edmonds, WA 4 th 2 Richard Riley* Alexandria, VA 5 th 14 Randy Rosenberg* Arlington, VA 6 th 30 Mike Savakinas Fairborn, OH 6 th 6 Chris Scott Davidsonville, MD 4 th 3 Patrick Sharshel Highlands Ranch, CO 6 th 8 Zach Tieche Sebring, OH 5 th *Crew Chief We Are the RubberDucks On October 29, 2013, team-owner Ken Babby stood before a capacity audience at the Akron Civic Theater and announced that the team would be known henceforth as the Akron RubberDucks.
