2 Last Game Recap RubberDucks 7 SeaWolves 3 Friday, 7/1/16 Summary Bradley Zimmer and Nellie Rodriguez both hit home runs, and Joe Sever added a key, two-run double, as the Akron RubberDucks came from behind to beat the Erie SeaWolves, 7-3, Friday night at Jerry Uht Park. Turning Point The RubberDucks (45-37) trailed 3-1 going to the top of the 7 th, but rallied for three runs against Erie reliever Lendy Castillo (2-2) to take a 4-3 lead. Clint Frazier led off with his 22 nd double and later scored on a fielder s choice by Jordan Smith. After a walk to Daniel Salters, Joe Sever came to the plate with two outs and blasted a two-run double to right field to chase home two runs and give the Ducks a 4-3 lead. Winging It Perci Garner (5-1) earned the win in relief after allowing one run in two innings. Louis Head and J.P. Feyereisen closed out the game with a scoreless inning each. Julian Merryweather started for Akron and worked the first five innings. He issued a pair of bases-loaded walks in the first inning to fall behind 2-1, but allowed nothing after. He walked six and struck out three in his second Double-A start. Duck Tales After taking the lead on Sever s double in the seventh, Akron scored three more in the eighth to extend the lead to 7-3. Bradley Zimmer clubbed a two-run shot to right field off lefty Joe Mantiply, and Nellie Rodriguez added a solo homer off Santiago Garrido. For Zimmer, it was his 13 th homer and second extra-base hit of the night. For Rodriguez, it was his team-high 16 th of the year. He was 3-4 on the night and also had a RBI single in the first inning. He now has 51 RBI on the year. Todd Hankins was 2-5 from the lead-off spot. Notebook The RubberDucks snapped a three-game losing streak and snapped a 23-inning scoreless drought by scoring in the first inning Erie starter Josh Turley was in total command for six innings. He fanned a career-high, nine batters and had retired 16 Akron hitters in a row when he left after the sixth Shortstop Eric Stamets was activated from the DL before the game and made his first appearance since injuring a hamstring on June 2 nd. RubberDucks 2016 Field Staff #17 David Wallace, Manager A former catcher in the Indians minor league system, Wallace was named Akron s 15 th manager on December 20, The 2016 season is Wallace s third with the RubberDucks and sixth overall as a minor league manager. A former star football and baseball player at Vanderbilt University, Wallace enjoyed a seven-year minor league career, mostly with the Indians organization. He spent parts of three seasons as a player in Akron, appearing in 122 games with 17 homers and 54 RBI. After concluding his playing career, he spent two seasons as a major league staff assistant with the Indians before embarking on his managerial career with Mahoning Valley in #27 Tony Arnold, Pitching Coach A fixture in the Indians player development system for the last 24 years, the 2016 season marks Arnold s fourth stint as Akron pitching coach. He previously served in the same capacity from , 2008, and He began last season as the pitching coach at Class-A Lynchburg and finished at Triple-A Columbus, helping the Clippers to the International League title. Arnold s 2012 Akron Aeros staff crafted a franchise-record 3.03 ERA, and went on to claim the EL championship. A former All-American at the University of Texas, Arnold pitched in the major leagues with Baltimore in 1986 and #15 Tim Laker, Hitting Coach Laker returns to the Indians organization after spending the last five seasons as a coach and hitting coordinator in the Chicago White Sox system. A former Cleveland Indians catcher, Laker was a member of the Indians player development staff as the manager of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in 2007, and then the minor-league catching coordinator from He also served as the manager at AA Tennessee in the Mariners organization in After being drafted by Montreal in the sixth round of the 1988 draft out of Oxnard (CA) College, Laker went on to play parts of 11 seasons in the big leagues with the Expos, Orioles, Rays, Pirates and Indians, hitting a combined.226, with 11 homers and 79 RBI in 282 big league games. He appeared with the Indians as a player from #45 Luke Carlin, Coach A former major league catcher with the Padres, Diamondbacks and Indians, Carlin brings a wealth of baseball knowledge into his first season as a coach in the Indians player development system. A veteran of 14 seasons in the minor leagues, Carlin spent parts of four seasons with the Columbus Clippers, most recently in 2014, when he hit.217 with five homers and 23 RBI in 61 games. He played in 56 big league games during his career, including 10 with the Tribe. A graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, Carlin grew up in Hull, Quebec. Jeremy Heller, Trainer The 2016 season mark s Heller s third in Akron and his 12 th overall as a trainer in the Indians organization. He was named Athletic Trainer of the Year in the Carolina League in Scott Nealon, Strength and Conditioning Coach A native of Avon Lake, Ohio, and a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace University, Nealon enters his sixth year as a strength coach in the Indians organization. He spent last season with Single-A Lynchburg.

This will be the first time the franchise has hosted the All-Star Game since it relocated to Northeast Ohio in The Eastern League All-Star festivities span two days, July 12-13, and will include a home run derby, autograph sessions, fireworks, and much more. A full schedule of events will be announced at a later date. Summa Health System is an official co-sponsor of the Eastern League All- Star Game and associated events. The All-Star Game is played between the top players from the Eastern League's Eastern and Western Divisions, with each team being represented with at least one pitcher and position player.
