2 Last Game Recap RubberDucks 7 Curve 6 Tuesday, 4/12/16 Summary Akron s Clint Frazier made an impact with his bat and glove Tuesday night at Altoona, driving in three runs with a double and later starting a triple play during a wild, 7-6 victory over the Curve at PNG Field. Turning Point The RubberDucks (5-0) saw an early five run lead evaporate and were clinging a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the seventh. The Curve had already scored three runs against relief pitcher Antonio Romero, and had runners on first and second with no one out. Manager David Wallace brought in right-hander J.P. Feyereisen to face Altoona s Jonathan Schwind. Feyereisen missed low with his first pitch to make the count 1-0. On the next delivery, the runners took off on a hit and run, but Schwind hit a line drive right at Frazier in shallow right field. Frazier caught the ball and threw to shortstop Eric Stamets at second base for the second out. Stamets then tossed back to Joe Sever at first for the triple play. Winging It The triple play kept the lead intact at 7-6. Feyereisen worked a scoreless eighth, and then turned the ball over to closer Ben Heller, who recorded a perfect ninth for his second save. The win went to Akron starter Dace Kime (1-0), who went 5.2 innings in his Double-A debut, and became the fifth straight Akron starter to earn a win. Kime did not allow a run over the first five innings, but faltered in the sixth, giving up three runs. Kime, who was raised and still lives in Defiance, Ohio, walked two and struck out four. Duck Tales After socking five homers in Monday s game, the Ducks settled for a pedestrian, single dinger Tuesday. It came off the bat of DH Nellie Rodriguez who smashed a ball over the center-field wall in the second inning off David Whitehead (0-1). It was Rodriguez s second homer of the season. Jeremy Lucas followed with an RBI single later in the inning to make it 2-0. Frazier came up with the bases loaded in the fourth inning, and stroked a line drive to the fence in center, clearing the bases and making it 5-0. Frazier has hit safely in all five games the Ducks have played. Lucas was 3-4, with a walk, and added another RBI single in the seventh, when the RubberDucks scored twice to extend the lead to 7-3. Notebook At 5-0, the RubberDucks are off to the best start in the Canal Park era Time of game: 3:19 Attendance: 1,935.
