Bowie will look to bounce back tonight after their third consecutive walk-off loss to Erie...In their last game an Austin reen two-rbi double sealed the defeat for the Baysox for a final score of 4-3. Once again Bowie had the lead in the game but squandered it late. Baysox starter David Hess exited the game after six strong innings, allowing just a sole run. The Bowie bullpen could not close the deal as Eric Fornataro walked consecutive batters to start the ninth frame. Austin reen s double to left field scored both the tying and winning runs. For tonight s contest will look to put the last series behind in the rear view and get a win versus the Eastern Division best, Reading Fightin Phills. The Baysox schedule has been loaded with Western Division foes over the first month and half of the season, this is is just the second Eastern division opponent Bowie has faced to date...last season the Fightin Phils won the head-to-head (seven games) 5-2, however all time the Baysox hold the series lead Starting Pitchers: RHP Parker Bridwell makes his sixth start of the season (seventh appearance)...bridwell has garnered a no decision in his previous two outings...in his last start Bridwell pitched 5.2 innings, allowed two runs on six hits while walking five and striking out two versus Hartford...Bridwell has fared marginally worse in home starts this season, (0-0, 4.60 in 15.2 IP)...The Texas native enters the 2016 season as the No. 22 prospect in Baltimore s organization according to Baseball America...Spent the 2015 season with Bowie, going 4-5 with a 3.99 ERA over 18 starts and 97.0 innings pitched... He was shut down for the season in late July with shoulder fatigue...bridwell led the Baysox in strikeouts (93) and was added to the Orioles 40-man roster following the season...tossed a complete game (8.0 IP) on 6/18/15 at New Britain...His pitching repertoire features a lively fastball, a very good change up and a slider... RHP Nick Pivetta is set to make his eighth start of the season tonight..in his last start, Pivetta was awesome. He threw six innings and allowed a sole run on three hits while striking out seven against Binghamton...He was originally a 4th round draft pick in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of New Mexico Junior College by the Washington Nationals. Pivetta was acquired by the Philadelphia Phillies via a trade with the Nationals in July 2015 for Jonathan Papelbon. At Single-A Pivetta was dominant, but when he advanced to Double-A he struggled in both the Nationals and the Phillies systems. Overall, in a split season, between Single & Double A Pivetta had a record of 9-8, 3.96 ERA over innings pitched... In three career starts vs. Bowie the Baysox hitters have owned Pivetta. In his three outings he is a combined 0-3 with a ERA over 11 innings pitched. In those 11 innings he surrendered 19 hits, 4 home runs, and 10 walks all while allowing the Baysox hitters to hit for an outstanding.315 average...his season was cut short by a oblique injury toward the end of the 2015 season...he enters the 2016 season as the No. 15 ranked prospect in the Phillies organization. His arsenal of pitches features a low-to-mid 90 s fastball, a low-80 s slider, a solid curveball and a change up.. Not For A Lack of Offense: The Baysox defense has struggled with errors this season (40, second worst), but the Baysox have done their best to make up for their defensive lapses at the plate...for the year, the Baysox rank near or at the top in the majority of batting statistics..the league average is.245, Bowie currently is batting.247 good for third in the league, tied for third in on-base percentage (.339), fourth in slugging percentage (.380), third in the league in hits (299), are fourth in runs (174), fourth in home runs (29) and fourth in runs batted in (159). If the Bowie pitching and defense can pick up slack and come close to mirroring what the offense has done over the first quarter of the season, the Baysox will be positioned nicely to make another deep playoff run come September... Pitching to Contact: Tomorrow s starter for the Baysox, Chris Lee, is off to great start to the season..after a no decision in his last start, Lee is 5-0 with a 2.41 ERA on the season..lee has been a master of pitching to contact this season..in his last start 14 out of the 18 (for the second start in a row) outs he recorded were ground ball outs..he finished with just one strikeout and a walk and has now recorded 13 strikeouts and eight walks over 37.1 innings pitched..lee s 1.74 walks per nine inning ratio is good for the lowest in the league. Lee is also standing at fourth in the league in WHIP with a Bullpen...Not Closing: The past few games have been especially rough on a reeling Bowie bullpen. In their three consecutive walk off losses the bullpen has combined to allow 15 hits, 8 runs, 10 walks and 4 home run balls over 11.1 innings...it s a huge gut check for the entire Baysox team as they had the SeaWolves down to their last outs three days in a row and allowed Erie to come away with all three wins. Bowie hopes that the bullpens latest shortcomings do not turn into a trend, but if the bullpen continues to blow saves and lose late leads it will surely be a cause for pause for Baysox manager ary Kendall...For the most part, in recent history, blown leads by the Baysox bullpen are extremely unfamiliar territory for the club. During the entire 2015 regular season, the Baysox did not lose a single game when leading after eight innings (65-0)...The Baysox were the only team in the league to go undefeated in that situation...the only Baysox loss when leading after eight innings in 2015 came during ame 1 of the Western Division Championship Series, when former Baysox closer Andrew Triggs blew his first save of the season in the ninth inning. This year the Baysox are 13-3 when leading after eight innings TEAM LEADERS Statistic Name Total Statistic Name Total Home Runs Trey Mancini 7 ERA David Hess 2.33 RBI Mike Yastrzemski 27 Wins Chris Lee 5 Batting Avg.
