The Baysox two worst margins of defeat this season have both come courtesy of the Fightin Phils..Dylan Cozens starred with three home runs in the game and seven RBI...It was the second time this season the Baysox have surrendered a seven-rbi game (Wilmer Difo on 6/28)...Cozens also recorded the first 3-HR game against the Baysox since Harrisburg's Michael Taylor on 4/27/14...The 13-0 loss came one run shy of the Baysox worst shutout loss in team history (14-0 to Trenton on 8/25/95)... This will be the final matchup between the two teams this season, with Reading leading the season series Tonight will be the final game of the series and the roadtrip for Bowie. The Baysox are now 4-3 on this current eight game trip and look for a series split with a win tonight... Starting Pitchers: RHP David Hess will make his 20th start of the season and his second against this Reading ball club this evening for the Baysox... In his last start, Hess earned his 10th loss of the season and his sixth in his last eight outings as he threw five innings and allowed three runs on four hits while walking three and striking out two batters...in his previous start versus Reading Hess was credited with the loss, in a game the Baysox lost 21-4, after throwing just 1.2 innings, his shortest outing of the year, and allowed nine runs on seven hits including three home runs.. The right-hander entered the 2016 season as the No. 18 rated prospect in the Orioles organization according to Baseball America...After a slow start in 2015 Hess was dynamic down the stretch and pitched two huge playoff games for the eventual Eastern League Champions, Bowie Baysox. During his final 15 starts, plus two playoff wins, he posted a 1.61 ERA...A big second half of 2015 looks to have Hess poised to have a breakout 2016 season...he features a good fastball, a slider and a curveball as his secondary pitches...hess, originally a 2014 draft pick was the first player of his draft class to make their Double-A debut in Bowie... RHP Tyler Viza is set to make his 11th start of the season...in his last start Viza was credited with the no decision as he threw six innings and allowed a single run while allowing four hits..this year is his debut season in Double-A and the Eastern League.. Prior to getting promoted on 6/10 from Single-A Advanced Viza was outstanding and went a combined 6-2 with a 2.54 ERA (9 starts) with a complete game over 49.2 innings pitched...viza was originally drafted in the 32nd round of the 2013 draft by the Philadelphia Phillies out of Desert Vista (AZ) high school... Garabez, the Ultimate Baysox: Another day, another Bowie Baysox franchise record for Garabez Rosa.For the secon time this season Rosa has surpassed Orioles catcher Caleb Joseph ( ) for a Baysox record. Earlier this season Rosa passed Josehp for the all-time hits record and now he has garnered the All-Time games played mark.rosa has now played in 435 games and stands alone in the Baysox 24-year history... Tough Stretch: Today's Baysox starter, David Hess has struggled as the season has continued...he has now has just two wins in his last 13 starts and has lost six out of hlast eight outings...since posting a sub.320 ERA over the first two months of the season, Hess has seen his ERA balloon to over Hess has particularly struggled in road starts this season. In 11 starts Hess has gone a combined 1-6 with a 6.19 ERA over 52.1 innings pitched and has allowed batters to hit at an alarming.324 clip...hess was very solid to begin the 2016 campaign. In April, in four starts, Hess was awesome, he went a combined 1-1 with a 2.74 ERA, in May he was solid. He posted a 1-2 win/loss record with a 3.16 ERA.. Defense Wins Games...Sometimes: The Baysox and Fightin Phils enter this series as the two worst defensive teams in terms of errors committed in the league this season (Reading) (Bowie)...However, the teams find themselves on opposite ends of the standings as the Fightin Phils have overcome their defensive deficiencies to lead all teams with 73 wins while the Baysox sit at 47 wins (the 4th fewest in the league)...in the 47 out of 109 games where the Baysox have not committed an error, the team is On the season, errors have led to 61 unearned runs being scored (11.5 percent of the total runs the Baysox have allowed this season)... Offensive Surge: The Reading Fightin Phils have been the best offensive team in the Eastern League for the majority of the season. The Baysox pitching staff can attest to that after surrendering five home runs last night and being handed the second worst lost of the season, 13 runs, the other was a 17 run loss (21-4) against this same Reading ball club. Reading leads the league in team batting avergae (.269, runs scored ( no other team has even 500. Bowie is second (492)...The Fightin Phils are first in hits (1, hits ahead of second place) and lead the league in home runs (143)..The team boasts the top 3 home run hitters in the EL (Hoskins: 31, Cozens: 30, Fox: 20)..Hoskins and Cozens are also both tied for the lead in RBI (96) and slugging percentage (.597)..
