The Curve scored six runs with two outs in the ninth inning, capped by a two-run, go-ahead double by Jin-De Jhang. TODAY: The Curve play the fourth of a seven-game, eight-day road trip with today s series finale against the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Altoona took all three games against the Squirrels last weekend at PNG Field, sweeping a Saturday doubleheader and winning the final game on Sunday by a 6-2 final score. The Curve have taken 11 of the first 14 games against the Flying Squirrels have played this year after winning the first two in this series. Last time Altoona visited The Diamond, the Curve and Squirrels split a four-game series. FOR ALTOONA: Lefty Brandon Waddell makes his third Double-A start for the Curve. Last time out, Waddell allowed one run on three hits over seven innings in a win against Trenton at PNG Field. In his debut at Erie, Waddell allowed two runs in 6.1 innings with no walks and three strikeouts to pick up his fifth consecutive win. In five starts with the Marauders, Waddell went 4-0 with a 0.93 ERA. He earned Florida State League Pitcher of the Week honors last Monday for his six scoreless, two-hit innings against Jupiter over the previous weekend with no walks and a careerhigh seven strikeouts. He won each of his last four starts prior to his promotion. Waddell was a three-year member of the starting rotation at the University of Virginia prior to being drafted by the Pirates in the fifth round last summer. He pitched seven innings and got the win in the decisive Game Three of the 2015 College World Series Championship against Vanderbilt last summer, giving Virginia its first-ever national championship in baseball and the first ACC CWS title since Wake Forest won in 1955, a 59-year drought. FOR RICHMOND: Right-hander Tyler Beede makes his seventh start of the season for Richmond. Last time out, he did not allow an earned run over five innings against Harrisburg. Beede was the first-round pick of the Giants in 2014 and is currently listed as San Francisco s No. 2 prospect. CWS REMATCH: Today s starting pitchers went head to to head during the 2014 College World Series finals in Omaha for Game 2 on June 24, Tyler Beede s Vanderbilt Commodores bested Brandon Waddell s Virginia Cavaliers that day, 7-2, and went on to win the national championship. Beede was selected in the first round of the MLB draft that year, but Waddell returned to the CWS finals and again faced Vanderbilt in 2015, picking up a win in the clinching game last year. COMEBACK KIDS: In four of the last five games the Curve have played at The Diamond, the Curve have plated the go-ahead run in the ninth inning. On April 16, Stetson Allie hit a bases-clearing triple to break a scoreless tie in the ninth and give the Curve a 3-0 win. The next day, Erich Weiss clubbed a three-run triple to put the Curve in front in the ninth in a 5-3 win. On Friday night, The Curve scored four runs in the ninth, capped by a two-run, go-ahead single by Stetson Allie, to beat Richmond 5-2. Last night, the Curve scored six runs with two outs in the ninth, with Jin-De Jhang supplying the go-ahead, two-run double. WHAT A RELIEF: Reliever Jhondaniel Medina has not allowed a run in his last seven outings, a span covering 10.2 innings. Dovydas Neverauskas has not allowed a run over his last seven outings, a total of 10.2 innings pitched. Medina extended his streak two nights ago with a scoreless inning. Over his streak - dating back to April 25 vs. Erie - Medina has allowed just one hit, has struck out six batters and walked only three. Neverauskas extended his streak in Friday s game, tossing a scoreless eighth inning to seal the win for Altoona and pick up his first Double-A win. BOMBS AWAY: Curve outfielder Stetson Allie moved up on the Curve s all-time home run leaders list with his seventh-inning four-bagger last Sunday, tying Ray Sadler for third all-time. Josh Bonifay and Adam Hyzdu both share the home run record, as both went big fly 55 times while wearing an Altoona jersey.
