After Austin Meadows started the ninth with a double, Reese McGuire doubled to bring him in and tie the game at 2-2. After three straight walks by Richmond closer Ray Black, Stetson Allie came through with a pinch-hit, two-run single to put Altoona in from 4-2 in the ninth. Harold Ramirez singled for his third hit of the game to add another run. Jared Lakind closed out the bottom of the inning for his second save. Dovydas Neverauskas picked up his first Double-A win after pitching a scoreless eighth. Starter Tyler Eppler allowed two runs (one earned) over his seven innings. Barrett Barnes had three hits in the game for the Curve. TODAY: The Curve play the third of a seven-game, eight-day road trip with tonight s game against the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Altoona took all three games against the Squirrels last weekend at PNG Field, sweeping a Saturday doubleheader and winning the final game on Sunday by a 6-2 final score. The Curve have taken 10 of the first 13 games against the Flying Squirrels have played this year after winning the first two in this series. Last time Altoona visited The Diamond, the Curve and Squirrels split a four-game series. FOR ALTOONA: Right-hander David Whitehead takes the mound for his sixth start of the year. Last time out, he picked up a loss after walking seven batters and allowing six earned runs in 2.0+ innings against Trenton. Two starts ago on May 3 at Erie, Whitehead allowed a franchise-record-tying 14 hits and a career-worst 10 runs (six earned) as the Curve were handed their worst shutout loss in franchise history, The former Elon pitcher was acquired by the Pirates this past offseason from Philadelphia for Charlie Morton. In each of his last two starts, Whitehead has walked six and hit two batters. For more on Whitehead, see page two. FOR RICHMOND: Lefty Matt Gage makes his sixth start of the season for Richmond. Last time out, Gage was charged with a loss after allowing three earned runs in 5.1 innings at PNG Field in Altoona. In his previous five starts, Gage has faced Altoona three times (0-2, 3.71). Gage was drafted by the Giants in the 10th round in 2014 out of Siena. TRIP-TRIP-TRIPLE: The Curve have knocked 14 triples so far this season, the most of any team in the Eastern League. That number is also the second-most of any team in Double-A, behind Jackson of the Southern League (15). Altoona is the only team in the league to hit three triples in a game this season, a feat accomplished on April 22 against Richmond at PNG Field.
