Dovydas Neverauskas pitched a ninth with two strikeouts for his tenth consecutive scoreless outing, spanning 14.2 innings. Erich Weiss, Austin Meadows and Edwin Espinal each drove in a run. Harold Ramirez went 0-for-4 and had his hit streak snapped. TODAY: The Curve continue their clash with the division-leading Akron RubberDucks, Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. The Curve were swept by Akron at Canal Park in the last series between the two teams, and lost four of the first five games against the Ducks overall. Entering play, the Curve have won 13 of their last 16 games overall. The RubberDucks are 18-5 in May and have the best record out of all MLB and MiLB teams. FOR ALTOONA: Right-hander Tyler Eppler starts for the Curve, making his ninth start of the season. Last time out, Eppler turned in his seventh quality start of the season in a no-decision at Binghamton on May 19, allowing two earned runs on six hits in six innings. Eppler matched a career-high with seven innings pitched in each of his previous two starts, both against Richmond. Eppler joined the Curve briefly near the end of the 2015 season after a strong year with the A-Adv. Bradenton Marauders. The Texas native is in his third professional season following his All-Conference career at Sam Houston State. For more on Eppler, see page two. FOR AKRON: Right-hander D.J. Brown makes his fifth start of the year for Akron after beginning the season with five relief outings. Last time out, he put together his best outing to date with six scoreless, two-hit innings in a no-decision against Binghamton with six strikeouts. In his four starts, Brown is 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA. He went 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA in five bullpen appearances. #WINNING: The Curve have won 13 of their last 16 games, dating back to May 5, when they were and fourth in the E.L. West. The stretch began with a three-game sweep of Richmond, but was interrupted by a loss to Trenton on May 9. The Curve responded with an eight-game winning streak, including a four-game road sweep of Richmond. Altoona has moved from fourth to second in the division, but has not gained any ground on the first-place Rubber- Ducks, still sitting 7.5 games back. A HAROLD-ED PROSPECT: Curve outfielder Harold Ramirez was held hitless last night to end his 11-game hitting streak, the longest for any Curve player this year. Over the stretch, Ramirez hit.426 (20-for-47) with seven multi-hit games, raising his average from.242 on May 8 to.298 (now.290). During the streak, Ramirez hit six doubles, scored 11 runs, drove in seven runs, walked seven times and struck out seven times. His.371 batting average in the month of May is the second-best in Double-A, behind only Richmond s Austin Slater (.415). WHAT A RELIEF: Reliever Dovydas Neverauskas has not allowed a run over his last ten outings, a total of 14.2 innings pitched. Neverauskas tossed a scoreless inning with two strikeouts on Tuesday night against Akron. His scoreless streak is the longest of any Curve pitcher this year, surpassing the mark originally set by Jhondaniel Medina at 14.0 innings. BOMBS AWAY: Curve outfielder Stetson Allie moved up on the Curve s all-time home run leaders list with his 41st career homer on May 8 against Richmond, tying Ray Sadler for third all-time. Josh Bonifay and Adam Hyzdu both share the home run record with 55 homers hit while wearing an Altoona jersey. YOUTH MOVEMENT: The Altoona this roster has an average age of 23.6, the youngest of any team in the Eastern League. Hartford (24.0), Trenton (24.3) and Akron (24.5) are the next closest. Erie (26.1) has fielded the oldest roster. The three youngest players on the Curve roster are all 21 and are also the three biggest prospects: Austin Meadows, Reese McGuire and Harold Ramirez. Only one player on the current roster, Jhondaniel Medina, has any experience above the Double-A level (Medina pitched two games in Triple-A this season). No one else has played above Double- A at any point in their professional careers.
