Mitch Keller allowed two runs over six innings and struck out eight. Yeudy Garcia pitched two scoreless relief innings. Portland starter Trey Ball tied a career high with nine strikeouts over his seven scoreless innings. Jake Cosart and Bobby Poyner each worked a scoreless inning to complete the shutout. Portland scored its two runs in the fifth inning on RBI hits by Deiner Lopez and Danny Mars. TODAY: The Curve play the opener of a three-game road series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. This series marks the Curve's only trip to Northeast Delta Dental Stadium this year. In their only other series meeting this season, the Curve won three of four games against the Fisher Cats at PNG Field from May The Fisher Cats are the first team in the league to be eliminated from postseason contention. The Fisher Cats lost five straight games before winning their last two games against Hartford prior to this series. The Curve dropped two of three games in Portland before this series. FOR ALTOONA: Right-hander Austin Coley makes his 21st start and 26th overall appearance for the Curve this season. He last pitched on Saturday in the second game of a double-header against Trenton and allowed four earned runs over 5.2 innings and was hit with his second straight loss. It marked the most earned runs he had allowed in a game since July 8. He is ranked four in the league with a 3.11 ERA and fifth with a 2.01 BB/IP ratio. Coley pitched with the A-Adv. Marauders last season and went with a 4.65 ERA last year. In 2015, Coley led the South Atlantic League and the Pirates organization with 16 wins while pitching for Single-A West Virginia. Coley was drafted by the Pirates in the eighth round of the 2014 draft out of Belmont. For more on Coley, see page two. Right-hander Casey Sadler makes his fifth start and ninth overall appearance for the Curve this season in game two. In his last start, Sadler set season highs in innings pitched (7.0), hits (11) and runs (4) in a no-decision against Trenton on Sunday at PNG Field. Sadler underwent Tommy John surgery on November 10, 2015 and missed the entire 2016 season. He went 11-7 with a 3.31 ERA for the Curve in 2013 over 23 starts and was selected as an Eastern League All-Star, earning late-season promotion to. He made his Major League debut on May 2, 2014 and made six relief outings for the Pirates that year. He made one MLB start, a win over the Brewers on April 12, 2015, his most recent Major League appearance. Sadler made his return to the mound in May with A-Adv., pitching in six relief outings with a 0.75 ERA before being sent to Triple-A in early-june, where he posted a 5.23 ERA in eight outings. He was assigned to the Curve on July 5. Pittsburgh drafted Sadler in the 25th round in For more on Sadler, see page two. FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE: Right-hander Sean Reid-Foley makes his 24th start of the season for the Fisher Cats. Last time out, he allowed seven earned runs over two innings in a loss at Erie on Saturday. Reid-Foley has picked up a decision in 13 consecutive starts dating back to June 3, going 6-7 in those games. He is ranked fourth in the league in SO/9 IP at Reid-Foley is in his first season at Double-A. He was drafted in the second round (49th overall) by the Blue Jays in 2014 and is currently ranked as the Blue Jays' seventh-best prospect by MLB.com. He entered the season as their second-ranked prospect. Right-hander Conner Greene makes his 23rd start of the season for the Fisher Cats in game two. He last pitched on Sunday, picking up a loss after allowing a season-worst 10 earned runs on a season-high 12 hits over four innings with five walks. Greene entered the year ranked by MLB.com as the Blue Jays' No. 6 prospect, but dropped to No. 12 in the midseason update. The Blue Jays picked him up in the seventh round of the 2013 draft out of Santa Monica (Calif.) High School. EAST FEAST: The Curve are playing their 14th of 19 consecutive games against the Eastern League Eastern Division. Overall, 26 of the 30 games from July 24-August 23 are against teams from the East. Since July 24, the Curve have gone against the opposite division. For the season, the Curve are when facing the Eastern Division, including a mark at home and an 8-7 record on the road. SEARCHING FOR HITS: The Curve are hitting.236 this month, their lowest batting average in a month this season, and are averaging 3.8 runs per game (60 run/16 games). The Curve are batting.255 as a team this year, which would be tied for the second-lowest season total all time with the 2008 team (2013 Curve had the lowest team average at.252). REYES ON A RUN: Over his last 20 games since July 29, Pablo Reyes is batting.343 (24/70), second-best in the Pirates minor league system, with four doubles, one triple, one home run and six RBIs. In that stretch, he has raised his season batting average from.265 to.282. Over his last 10 games since August 8, Reyes is batting.412 (14/34). STARTING IMPROVEMENT: Over the last 43 games since July 3, Curve starting pitchers have combined to go with a 3.41 ERA (92 ER/242.2 IP), an improvement over the previous 79 starts, when the starters combined to go with a 4.63 ERA. In that span, Alex McRae is 3-1 with a 3.35 ERA (14 ER/37.2 IP) as a starter, J.T. Brubaker is 3-1 with a 3.83 ERA (17 ER//40.0 IP), Austin Coley is 3-2 with a 3.26 ERA (18 ER/49.2), Mitch Keller is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA (6 ER/18 IP), Brandon Waddell is 2-1 with a 4.12 ERA (9 ER/19.2 IP), Casey Sadler is 0-1 with a 4.70 ERA (12 ER/23.0 IP) as a starter and Tanner Anderson is 2-1 with a 2.65 ERA (10 ER/34.0) in starts. CLOSE CALLS: The Curve have gone in their last 28 games, and seven of those losses have been by one run. Their last 14 losses since July 18 have been by an average of 1.9 runs (26 runs/14 games). The Curve have played 46 one-run games this year, the most in the Eastern League, and have posted a record in those games. C-N-O: Reliever Tate Scioneaux has held opposing batters to a.199 average, fourth-best in the league among relievers. Scioneaux is tied for third in the league with 40 appearances, has the ON THE ROAD TRIP second-lowest BB/9 IP ratio (1.58) and has allowed the third-fewest baserunners (8.28/9 IP). The team record for saves in a single season is 49, which the Curve posted in Montana DuRapau (14) and Tate Scioneaux (12) are the third duo of relievers in franchise history to individually record double-digit saves in a single season. Jhondaniel Medina (12) and Yhonathan Barrios (10) accomplished the feat in 2015, as did Jeff Miller (18) and Elio Serrano (14) in ELVIS IS IN THE BUILDING: Center fielder Elvis Escobar is batting.444 (12/27) over his last eight games with five RBIs. He lifted the Curve to a 3-2 win with a walk-off single against Trenton on Saturday in the first game of a double-header. On Sunday, he drove a walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth to hand the Curve a 5-4 win against the Thunder.
