With the Curve leading 2-1, Rodriguez hit a two-out grand slam in the top of the sixth inning to put the Baysox in front, 5-2. Jin-De Jhang brought the Curve back within two runs with an RBI groundout in the sixth, but Rodriguez clubbed a two-run homer in the seventh to stretch the Bowie lead to 7-3. The Curve struck first in the first inning when Cole Tucker tripled and scored on a sac fly by Pablo Reyes. Wyatt Mathisen stretched the lead to 2-0 with a sac fly in the fourth inning. Mitch Keller left with the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth, but all three runs scored on the grand slam by Rodriguez. He finished the game with seven strikeouts. TODAY: The Curve open a four-game road series against the Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. The Curve won two of three games in their first series against Richmond this year from April at The Diamond and swept a two-game set in form May 2-3. Richmond won two of three games at The Diamond from May 8-10 and took three of four games in from June enters this series having split a four-game series at home against Bowie and with seven wins over the last ten games. McRae has the tenth-best ERA (3.76) among starting pitchers in the league this year, is ranked fourth with innings pitched and has posted the fifth-best BB/9 IP rate (2.06). Last season, McRae joined the Curve in late-june after making 12 starts in the Florida State League. After going 2-4 with a ERA in his first six starts with, McRae went 6-2 with a 2.47 ERA (17 ER/62.0 IP) over his last ten outings (nine starts) from July 14-September 1. A native of Milwaukee, McRae is in his fourth professional season after being drafted by the Pirates in the tenth round out of Jacksonville University in 2014, where he played first and third base along with pitching. For more on McRae, see page two. FOR RICHMOND: Right-hander Dillon McNamara makes his fifth start and seventh overall appearance for the Flying Squirrels this season. He was traded from the Yankees to the Giants on July 23. He began the year as a reliever for the A-Adv. Tampa Yankees, posting a 1.17 ERA over 16 outings before a promotion to Trenton, where he went 0-2 with a 6.17 ERA prior to the trade. PLAYOFF PUSH: The Curve are currently leading the Western Division by one game over Bowie and have a six-game lead over third-place Erie and Akron. The top two teams advance to the postseason. The Curve are aiming to make the postseason for the third straight season for just the second time in franchise history (They went to the playoffs in four consecutive years from ). The Curve have won their division two times: 2004 and In both of those seasons, they advanced to the Eastern League Championship series, losing in the finals to New Hampshire in 2004 and winning their only E.L. title to date in 2010 over Trenton. The Curve's magic number to clinch a playoff spot is currently two. They need one more win to solidify their 12th winning season in their first 19 years. COLE WORLD: Cole Tucker is batting.378 (14/37) over his last nine games with eight RBIs, two doubles, a triple and one homer. He has picked up four go-ahead hits for the Curve dating back to last Sunday, when he hit an RBI single in the 10th inning at New Hampshire to lift the Curve to a 6-5 win. On Monday, he clubbed a two-run homer in a 2-0 win at Hartford. On Tuesday, he gave the Curve a lead with a two-run triple to give the Curve the lead in a 5-4 win at Hartford. On Saturday night, Tucker broke a 1-1 tie with a go-ahead single in the sixth inning in a win over the Baysox. CLOSE CALLS: The Curve have gone in their last 36 games, and seven of those losses have been by one run. Their last 16 losses since July 18 have been by an average of 2.0 runs (32 runs/16 games). The Curve have played 50 one-run games this year, the most in the Eastern League, and have posted a record in those games. SEARCHING FOR HITS: The Curve are hitting.246 in the month of August, the lowest in the Eastern League and the lowest for the Curve in a single month this season. The team average for the season is currently.255, which would tie the 2008 Curve for the second-lowest in franchise history, trailing on the 2013 team, which hit.252. C-N-O: Reliever Tate Scioneaux has held opposing batters to a.210 average, third-best in the league among relievers. Scioneaux is tied for first in the league with 44 appearances, has the second-lowest BB/9 IP ratio (1.47) and has allowed the third-fewest baserunners (8.62/9 IP). He has converted each of his last eight save attempts. SAVE IT: The Curve lead the Eastern League with 44 saves this season, tied for their second-highest total in a year since 2008 (They had 47 in 2010 and 44 in 2015). The team record for saves in a single season is 49, which the Curve posted in Montana DuRapau (14) and Tate Scioneaux (14) are the third duo of relievers in franchise history to individually record double-digit saves in a single season. Jhondaniel Medina (12) and Yhonathan Barrios (10) accomplished the feat in 2015, as did Jeff Miller (18) and Elio Serrano (14) in ELVIS IS IN THE BUILDING: Center fielder Elvis Escobar is batting.388 (19/49) over his last 14 games with seven RBIs. He lifted the Curve to a 3-2 win with a walk-off single against Trenton on August 12 in the first game of a double-header. The next day, he drove a walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth to hand the Curve a 5-4 win against the Thunder. He is the only Curve player to have multiple walk-off hits this season. Escobar has seven three-hit games this season, which is tied for most on the team.
