The Curve led 3-2 heading into the eighth inning, but the Baysox rallied for three runs. Garabez Rosa tied the game with a single, Jeff Kemp hit a go-ahead single and Erick Salcedo added to the lead with a run-scoring hit. The Curve closed the gap to one in the ninth with an RBI single by Jerrick Suiter, but stranded runners on first and third. Bowie scored first in the third on an Austin Hays homer, and Edwin Espinal evened the score with an RBI single in the third. Kevin Newman put the Curve ahead with an RBI single and Suiter stretched the lead to 3-1 with a solo homer in the fifth. Aderlin Rodriguez hit a solo homer in the sixth to bring the Baysox within a run. Austin Coley allowed three runs over six innings. TODAY: The Curve face the Bowie Baysox, Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, in the third of a four-game series at PNG Field. After winning six of seven games, the Curve have now lost three in a row. The Baysox have won eight of their last nine games. This series is the first trip to PNG Field for the Baysox this year. Bowie took two of three games against from June 2-4 and swept four games from June FOR ALTOONA: Right-hander Alex McRae makes his 18th start of the year for the Curve and third against the Baysox. He is 1-1 with a 1.20 ERA (2 ER/15 IP) against the Baysox this year. Last time out, he picked up a win against Binghamton last Thursday after allowing two earned runs over five innings. McRae is ranked fifth in the league with 98.0 innings pitched and 13th with a 3.95 ERA. He has won each of his last three home starts since June 15 (3-0, 3.14 ERA). Last season, McRae joined the Curve in late-june after making 12 starts in the Florida State League. After going 2-4 with a ERA in his first six starts with, McRae went 6-2 with a 2.47 ERA (17 ER/62.0 IP) over his last ten outings (nine starts) from July 14-September 1. A native of Milwaukee, McRae is in his fourth professional season after being drafted by the Pirates in the tenth round out of Jacksonville University in 2014, where he played first and third base along with pitching. For more on McRae, see page two. FOR BOWIE: Right-hander Jesus Liranzo makes his sixth start of the year for the Baysox and his 22nd overall appearance. He has started in his last five outings, working three innings in four of those appearances (0-0, 2.77 ERA). Liranzo is ranked as the 14th-best prospect in the Baltimore system on MLB.com. He was originally signed by the Braves in 2012 and released in 2012, resigned by Atlanta in 2013 and released again that June. The Orioles signed him in July 2013 and had surgery to repair a fracture in his elbow that fall, missing all of Liranzo combined to post a 2.07 ERA between the DSL, Single-A Delmarva and Double-A Bowie in 2015 and BESTED BY BOWIE: The Curve have lost eight of their nine games against Bowie this year. The offense has combined to hit.237 (73/308) against Bowie, their worst average against any E.L. team this season. The pitching staff has a 5.19 ERA (45 ER/78.0 IP) against the Baysox, also the worst against an league opponent. Bowie is hitting.318 (99/311) against with 11 homers in nine games, the highest average the Curve have allowed to an opponent this year and the highest average for the Baysox against any opponent faced in more than three games. The Baysox have a better ERA ( ER/83.0 IP) against than any other E.L. opponent, which is the lowest ERA posted by any Curve opponent in head-to-head match-ups this season. ONE WAY OR ANOTHER: The Curve have seen six of their last eight games decided by one run since July 5, going 2-4 in those contests. HELLO, NEWMAN: Over his last 22 games since June 17, Kevin Newman is hitting.330 (31/94), third-best in the Pirates' system, with seven doubles, a triple, two homers and 11 RBIs. His season average has increased from.229 to.259. For the year, he has the fourth-best TPA/SO rate in the E.L. (9.24) and has the fifth-most at-bats (321). SUIT UP!: Since June 2, Jerrick Suiter is batting.364 (39/107), leading the Pirates' system during that stretch, with seven homers, six doubles, 22 RBIs and 19 walks over 34 games. Suiter reached base in 10 straight plate appearances from July 5-7, going 9-for-9 with a homer, two doubles, a walk and five RBIs. He hit safely in nine straight at-bats and eight straight plate appearances. In his last eight games, Suiter is hitting.517 (15/29, 2 2B, 3 HR, 3 BB, 9 RBIs). EDWINNING: 2016 E.L. Lefty Sean Keselica has held opposing hitters to a.169 average when pitching out of the pen, second-best in the league, and Tate Scioneaux (.202) is ranked fifth. Miguel Rosario is first in ERA (0.89), Keselica is second (1.84) and Scioneaux is third (1.95) in ERA out of the relievers in the league with at least 40 innings pitched.
