Brown (8-8, 4.78) ELDS Game 5 (If necessary) YESTERDAY: The Curve evened the series with a 3-1 win in Game Two of the Western Division Series. Clay Holmes allowed one run over 5.2 innings, surrendering four hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Josh Smith, Trey Haley and Jared Lakind combined for 3.1 hitless, scoreless innings to finish the night. The Curve opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI double by Erich Weiss, and he came in to score on a sac fly by Barrett Barnes. Akron plated a run in the fifth, but Stetson Allie answered with his second homer of the series in the sixth inning. TONIGHT: The Curve meet the Akron RubberDucks, Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, for Game Three of the 2016 Eastern League Western Division Series. The series is tied, 1-1. Tonight's game is the first of three possible games at Canal Park to finish the series. THE CURVE: The Curve finished the season 12 games over.500 and a half-game behind Akron in the Western Division, clinching a wild card berth with a 2-0, ten-inning win over Richmond on Monday afternoon. This year marks the first time the Curve have made back-to-back postseasons since going to four straight from , the first four playoff appearances in team history. took over first place in the Western Division for the first time on June 26, and held that spot for 55 of 63 games until Akron took it on the next-to-last day of the season. THE RUBBERDUCKS: The RubberDucks opened the season with a 7.5-game lead in the division on May 28, but went on a 12-game losing streak from June 5-16, starting a stretch of posting an record over 60 games, dropping to on August 7 and falling seven games behind the first-place Curve. Akron went 21-5 over their last 26 games, including an 11-game winning streak from Aug , to storm back into the playoff mix and take the Western Division's regular-season crown, taking over first place from on September 4. The RubberDucks won the final four games of their regular season at home against Bowie. Including the postseason, Akron has hit.278 (217/781) against the Curve in 23 games, but just.237 against the other 10 teams in the Eastern League. FOR ALTOONA: Right-hander Nick Kingham made two regular-season starts for the Curve. In his first outing, he picked up a win over Binghamton on August 29 at PNG Field, allowing one run on three hits in six innings. He went 3-0 with a 0.53 ERA (1 ER/17 IP) in his first three starts between Bradenton and.. Kingham appeared in six games for Triple-A Indianapolis last year before undergoing Tommy John surgery. The Texas native made his 2016 debut on a rehab assignment with the GCL Pirates on July 8, and went 0-4 with a 3.00 ERA in six starts before moving to Adv.-A Bradenton. Kingham spent parts of two seasons with the Curve, going 3-3 with a 2.70 ERA in 13 starts 2013 and posting a 1-7 record with a 3.04 ERA over 12 starts in He is 1-2 with a 2.00 ERA (8 ER/36 IP) in six career starts against Akron. In his last six starts of the regular season, he went 6-0 with a 2.17 ERA. In his most recent start, Kaminsky allowed three earned runs over seven innings against Bowie on Saturday. A first-round pick of the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2013 MLB Draft, Kaminsky was traded to the Cleveland Indians on July 30, 2015 for first baseman Brandon Moss. In four starts this season against, Kaminsky went 3-0 with a 1.16 ERA (3 ER/23.1 IP). ALTOONA VS. AKRON PLAYOFF HISTORY: 2016 marks the seventh postseason appearance in franchise history and the fifth as a wild card qualifier. The Curve have faced Akron in the Division Series three previous times, with the then-aeros taking all three sets. In 's first playoff series in 2003, Akron won the series, 3-1. The two teams met again in 2005, and Akron eliminated in five games. They met again in 2006, with the series again going five games before a 5-2 win by the Aeros in the final game. The Curve are 5-3 in playoff games at home against Akron, with a 1-7 mark at Canal Park. COMEBACK CURVE: The Curve had 36 total come-from-behind wins this season. They have won seven times this year after trailing through eight innings, the most in the league (Five other teams did it four times). DU-RAP IT UP: closer Montana DuRapau finished second in the Eastern League with 22 saves this year, fourth-most in Curve history. It was tied for the second-most for a Curve pitcher in a season since 2007, behind only 24 by Noah Krol in He finished first with 43 games finished and fourth with 50 appearances.
