His tenure on the coaching staff has included two trips to the Division II College World Series (1995 and 2003) and one to the Division I postseason (2008) while his duties have focused mainly on the development of the Aggie pitching staff. In his UC Davis tenure, Vaughn has coached 36 players who have gone on to sign professional contracts, including 15 pitchers. Ten Aggies have earned a total of 12 All-America honors and three have been named West Region Pitchers of the Year. In 2004, one of his protegés - Michael Potter - captured California Collegiate Athletic Association Pitcher of the Year honors. In Vaughn s tenure as pitching coach, five of his pitchers have been selected as conference pitcher of the year. Vaughn has coached some of the best pitchers in UC Davis history. Under his guidance, two-time All-American Justin Reid posted a 1.82 ERA as a sophomore - the program s lowest in 26 years - then struck out a school record 125 batters his junior year. Reid was inducted into the Cal Aggie Athletics Hall of Fame in June of Reid joins Dave McKae, Justin Fitzgerald, and Andy Suiter as one of several Vaughn protegés whose names are scattered throughout the UC Davis record books. In addition to being the home of the Aggies since 1986, the stadium has hosted Babe Ruth Baseball and various adult leagues throughout the spring, summer and fall. In a massive effort spearheaded by then head baseball coach Phil Swimley, Dobbins Stadium was built almost completely with volunteer time, materials and funds. Previously known as Community Stadium, the Dobbins ballpark hosted its first UC Davis home game on February 18, However, the facility was still incomplete at that time. The volunteer efforts continued through that decade to transform the stadium into a full-service collegiate facility. In 2002, Dobbins Stadium was further enhanced to include permanent concessions, restroom facilities and a press box. Eight years later, a new scoreboard adorned the right field wall.
