VS. TAMPA BAY: The O s lead the season series, 5-1 Last night s loss snapped a five-game head-to-head winning streak, the O s longest vs. Tampa Bay since setting the club record vs. Tampa Bay with eight, April 18- August 3, 2007 From May 6-8, the Birds completed their first sweep of the Rays in St. Petersburg since April 1-3, 2011 In 2013, the Orioles went 6-13 against the Rays, going 3-6 in Baltimore and 3-7 in St. Petersburg The O s trail in all-time season series, , going in Baltimore and at the Trop. A RARE OCCURRENCE: After allowing an earned run in last night s appearance, Darren O Day has now allowed earned runs in consecutive appearances for the first time since June 22-24, 2013 He had gone a span of 60 games between consecutive appearances allowing an earned run, posting a 1.46 ERA (55.2IP, 9ER) with 13 walks and 47 strikeouts during the stretch. ANOTHER RARE OCCURRENCE: Brian Matusz allowed a two-run homer to the first batter he faced last night, scoring just the fourth of 23 runners he has inherited this season Since 2012, Matusz is third in the majors (minimum 60 inherited runners), allowing just 12.2% of inherited runners to score. MAGIC NUMBER: The Orioles are (.722) when scoring four or more runs and 9-24 (.273) when scoring three or fewer runs Before last night, the O s had won eight of their last nine when scoring four or more. ONE-RUN GAMES: The Birds are in one-run games this season despite going 3-8 in their last 11 such contests Baltimore has gone 6-4 in one-run games against the AL East this season. OVERPOWERING: Zach Britton ranks second in the AL in relief ERA at 0.76 (35.2IP, 3ER) Britton also leads the majors in ground ball percentage (78.3%) and groundball-to-flyball ratio (10.29). STING THE RAYS: Chris Davis ranks 10 th among active players in OPS (min. 150 PA) vs. Tampa Bay (.911). RELYING ON THE DEFENSE: On Sunday vs. Toronto, Chris Tillman turned in the sixth start in club history of at least 7.0 innings without recording a walk or strikeout, and the first since Jimmy Key, May 12, 1997 vs. Oakland (7.2IP) Jeff Ballard is the only pitcher in club history to make two such starts (August 7 and 21, and 9.0 innings, respectively) The Orioles failed to record a strikeout in Sunday s game, their first time doing so since May 27, 2010 vs. Oakland It was the 86 th such game in club history. BALTIMORE S BASHERS: The Orioles lead the majors with 21 long balls in June The Orioles have hit two or more homers in 22 games this season, with 15 of those 22 coming in the last 27 games (since May 20; MLB-leading 39 HR in that time, Oakland and Toronto are tied for second with 33). A MATTER OF TIME: J.J.
