'Tis the Season...for Construction Multi Modal Project Updates Thanks to the enormous amount of community input and support for the City's Multi Modal Transportation Master Plan and the Parks, Open Space, Trails and Recreation Master Plan, some of the projects identified as priorities will be completed in the next few months. Here's a quick look at what is going on now and what is coming soon, to a neighborhood near you! Animas River Trail Through Memorial Park from 29th to 32nd St. Funded primarily by a CDOT Enhancement grant, Animas Valley Construction will build 2,055 feet of ART along E. 3rd Ave. Construction has begun (see below) and parking near the 29th river access is restricted. The hardscaping and paving should be done by year-end, with landscaping to be completed next spring. CLOSED: Memorial Park, the parking area at E. 3rd Ave. and 29th St., and the 29th St. river access. Through Animas City Park to Bennet St. Also funded primarily by a CDOT Enhancement grant, Kennebec Construction will build 830 feet of ART along E. 2nd Ave. north from 32nd St. A shade structure at the north end of the existing playground and street trees will also be added. The majority of the project should be completed by year-end, with landscaping to be completed next spring. CLOSED: Playground and public access through the project area. Construction of new trail through Memorial Park

Thank You Bike/Ped Count Volunteers! Many HUGE thanks to the 41 volunteers who filled 54 shifts counting...counting...counting bicycles and pedestrians for two hours in 9 locations around town, twice a day for three days. The weather was less-than-optimal for sustainable travel but many hardy Durangoans were out and about on their bikes, boards and feet anyway, and were counted! Kudos too to them for braving the chilly rain. The counts are very important, providing data to the national database and information to our Multi Modal division to assist program and project planning and successful grant acquisition. THANK YOU, everyone! If you missed this fantastic opportunity to volunteer, mark your calendar for September 2015 when we will do this again!
